Smart cities tackling community issues

What about homelessness in communities? If we think about environmental sustainability at the community level, how about all those sodium lamps light up the street at night, which is cheaper but not environmentally friendly or long-term economically efficient. How does a Local City Council running a Smart City program operationalise these efforts? What is the role of community? How does the Council bring in private sector stakeholders? Well, there are ways and means to how Councils have gone about addressing societal problems. Here in New Zealand the Smart City programs underway in Wellington, Hamilton, and Christchurch have taken on some of these community challenges. The following sections capture their experiences.
