Hello. It’s Jean here with a few final words. Many thanks for taking part in this two week course. I hope it’s helped you think about whether a career in social care is right for you. It’s been something I’ve done all of my adult life. And to me there is nothing so rewarding or interesting. The job opportunities are so varied, that there’s something for everyone in the profession. I’ve loved working with children and young people, but I’ve also worked with older people and people with learning disabilities. I’ve laughed and at times, I confess, I’ve cried. There’s nothing quite like the feeling that in some small way you’ve helped a person when they needed your support.

The people I’ve supported are not my friends, because we had a professional relationship, but I have befriended them for a while. And hopefully, it made a positive difference to their lives. Think of a time when you’ve helped a friend or family member. As a professional social care worker, your relationship with them would be very different, but you would still have to be caring and compassionate. How do you think a professional caring relationship differs from personal relationships? Good luck with your job hunting and future progress, and well done for completing the course.

Congratulations on completing Step into Social Care! We really hope you enjoyed the course, and that it’s helped you to decide whether a career in the care sector is right for you.
