Introduction To The Course

Dr Nana Sartania and Dr Leah Marks welcome you to the course.
9.1
I’m Leah Marks, and I’m a senior lecturer in medical genetics at the University of Glasgow. And I’m Nana Sartania, senior lecturer in medical education and the deputy director of admissions at the medical school. It’s widely accepted that getting into medical school is hard. Applicants need to navigate through a lot of information on medical school web pages, read various blogs from those in the know, look at work placement opportunities, and all this in parallel with completing secondary education or any alternative qualification if you are not a school leaver and prepare for any aptitude test required by the University of your choice.
50.6
In order to give yourself the best chance of success you have to understand the process and know what the admission tutors are looking for. On top of that, you want to direct your efforts to accrue additional activities for your CV that could make you stand out from the rest at admissions. We have put this three-week long course together to explain entry requirements and various admission technologies that universities use, but not everyone is familiar with. You’ll be able to hear from people who have gone through the process already, read a variety of relevant articles, and join in discussions. In addition, we’ll talk to a range of doctors in different specialties and find out what their day-to-day working life is like.
96.2
We will run quizzes that test your knowledge and understanding of the material from each week. We think the biggest benefit from this course will be access to a network of similarly minded people with whom you can share ideas and resources. We’ll try to make the next three weeks both informative and enjoyable and hope you’ll make some new friends too.

Welcome to this course!

We’re really glad you have decided to find out more about a career in medicine and hope you will be inspired over the next three weeks. Please interact on the the comments threads you’ll find at the end of each step, and help build a community.
