Hurray! You’ve been successful and received a place to study at your chosen university for your chosen course! But what is the process of finding out? And what happens next?

At the end of your interview, or as part of your interview communications, you may be told how long to expect to wait before finding out the outcome of your interview and application. Regardless, each institution will make their decisions at different times, so don’t worry if your friends hear back before you do, or if you don’t hear back from all your choices at the same time.

There are however UCAS deadlines which institutions needs to have decided by, which is normally mid-May if you applied through UCAS before the January deadline and mid-July if you applied through UCAS before the June deadline.

You will be told via UCAS if you have been successful and at that point you can celebrate! You may then find the following happens:

  • You may be invited to a Post Offer Visit Day which is a great chance to see the university again
  • You may start to receive communications from the department or the central Admissions team such as student blogs
  • If you’ve been successful, many institutions won’t give you any feedback on your interview even if you request it, so bear this in mind.

Imagine you’ve just received notification that you’ve been successful – what do you think your first reaction would be? And how would you celebrate?! Share your comments in the discussion below!
