What is activism?

What does activism mean to different people? Watch this video to explore the meaning of the term and how others see it.

Activism can take many forms, and means different things for different people. In this video, you will hear from the course team about what activism means to them.

For Deji it is about dedicating some time and activity towards making positive changes in the world around you, whether big or small. For Savena, activism can include a range of activities from awareness raising and pointed political messaging to being involved in unions. Arda’s perception focuses on empowerment and learning. For Peaks, there are many ways activism can be expressed, but the most important thing is acting with intention and a good heart. Evani sees activism as being about collective liberation, while for Yadira, it is any action that leads to some kind of change, decolonisation or intervention or abolition of oppressive systems.
