Are leaders born or made?

Watch this video where module leader Navami Leena introduces the course.
Leadership as a concept is familiar to most but in terms of theory, has a multitude of definitions, each one trying to explain the various facets of practice. During periods of decision making and change, leadership becomes one of the most essential aspects in managing the organisation. In fact, it is hard to identify such a universal set of behaviours that ensures an effective and efficient way to achieve a common goal. In an increasingly dynamic business environment, developing leaders and followers for the attainment of a common goal is of paramount importance, regardless of the industry.
In this short course, we will look at different concepts of leadership, the evolution of leadership theories, the difference between a leader and a manager, the interplay of power and leadership and finally, you will get the opportunity to assess your own leadership qualities. Before moving on to the short course in depth I would like you all to ponder one of the most debated questions in the field of leadership studies. ‘Are leaders born or made?’ Join me over the next few weeks in this journey of leadership, where we will explore the leadership paradigm in an international context.
