Five factors to consider when valuing yourself

Try and answer the question 'Why me?' to understand why a customer should work with you.

Welcome to week 3!

This week you will consider the relationship between value, experience, and charging for your services. You will explore the real cost of living, and learn how to calculate your expenses.

Valuing yourself is an important consideration for every freelancer. In this video, Alison has joined us to share the five factors that you should take into account.

  1. Value: based on your living budget
  2. Your level of experience
  3. Benchmarking: what do others earn for this work?
  4. Industry sector variations
  5. The intended market for your work

Over to you

Think about the five factors above and consider the questions below. Share your response in the comments below, and discuss your answers with fellow learners.

  • What is your ‘value’ in the marketplace?
  • What experience do you bring to the table?
  • How do your value and experience affect your pricing policy?

If this is daunting for you – it will very likely be daunting to others too! We are thinking broadly at this stage, and will cover each of these further in the steps of this week.
