Introducing Local Actions

A series of activities complement our online lectures each week. These activities will place the lecture content into your local setting.
“We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.”

– Nelson Mandela

The activities take about 60-120 min each week. The activities are diverse. Participate in a citizen science project or discuss climate change with others. Determine biodiversity around you and understand the environmental impacts of one of your meals.

Of course, you can do the required minimum for the activities. We won’t force you to take this to the next level. However, we hope you see this as an opportunity to step beyond theory, beyond the readings, and make a real difference: however small that is.

On that note, we know that deep change requires systems to change. It is not just about the actions we can take alone. It also requires us to address the common action problems.

Always remember: it is never just systems change or individual change. In every case it is both. Systems are made up of individuals and systems can change by large numbers of people acting. At the same time, changing systems allows individuals to change and respond. We will talk more about this in Week 4.
