In this first week, we will introduce the concept of planetary boundaries within which humanity can safely exist. Next, we will focus on one of the key planetary boundaries, biodiversity, and how humans are impacting biodiversity. After this module, you will be able to:

  • Explain the scale of environmental issues globally and link it to the concept of planetary boundaries.
  • Discuss the importance of biodiversity and explain the different ways in which we can value biodiversity.
  • Describe key threats which are driving biodiversity loss.
  • Discuss different approaches to protect and conserve biodiversity.

In addition, you will go out and find biodiversity within your own community, as a local action. This will be done using an app, which is linked to a citizen science project.
