Let’s look at nearer-term opportunities and linked Australian projects.

To support the widespread adoption of hydrogen over the next decade, four near-term opportunities have been identified. These opportunities are mutually supportive and can help to scale up infrastructure development, enhance investor confidence and reduce costs.

They include:

  1. establish hydrogen hubs
  2. build on existing infrastructure
  3. expand hydrogen in transport
  4. establish international shipping routes for hydrogen.

These opportunities are underpinned by funding support (the current levels of which were discussed in step 1.12 from Week 1), and especially by the skilled workforce required for the new roles to be created as the hydrogen economy grows. These near-term opportunities are detailed in the next steps including current or recent Australian projects focused on these areas.
