The Course Structure

The course will be split across 4 weeks with a different focus each week.
Week 1
Week 1: Introduction To Transfer Medicine
In the first week of the course you will explore the scope of transfer medicine practice and come to understand the varying factors involved in transferring critically unwell patients.

By the end of Week 1 you should:
- Understand why transfer medicine is important
- Recognise the wide-reaching need for transfer medicine across the globe
- Formulate a cohesive and comprehensive definition of transfer medicine
- Recognise that transfer of patients poses risks not only to patients but also to transfer staff
- Create an organised strategy to minimise these risks
- Appreciate the parallels between transfer medicine and the aviation industry
- Understand the relevant human factor skills for effective team-working and situational awareness
