Welcome To Week 3!

A short introduction to Week 3 - Equipment & Aeromedical Transfers
The image shows the week in graphical icons. There is an icon with syringes, one helicopter, a transfer bag and the MOOC logo
In Week 3 you’ll learn to assess the important features of equipment and discover the challenges and solutions for transfer by air.

By the end of this week you will be able to:

  • Identify a variety of critical care equipment for transfer and the features that make them safe for use in hospital, ambulances and air services.
  • Understand the importance of accurate and complete transfer documentation and the medico-legal implications of transferring patients.
  • Appreciate the challenges that make decision making unique in transfer medicine.
  • Argue for “stay and stabilise” versus “scoop and run” approaches to dealing with critical incidents during transfer.
  • Identify the physiological changes that occur during the transfer of patients by air.
  • Outline the indications for and different means to complete aeromedical transfers.

We welcome you to share your experiences and interact with other learners throughout the week in the comments sections!

We hope you enjoy the week!
