What is coming up in week 4?

A video of Professor Catherine Mitchell explaining the elements of IGov's proposed reforms to energy system governance for rapid decarbonisation.
Hello and welcome to our final week, Week 4: Governance Change for a Rapid Decarbonisation. This week is the ‘solutions’ week. We set out what governance changes we think should happen, and why, in order to rapidly transform our energy system into one which is sustainable, secure and equitable. This week, we are going to give an overview of the problems of the current energy system governance. We are going to look in more detail at how those governance problems undermine the energy policy goals the UK Government says it wants to deliver. We will explain why a coordinated and coherent energy system is essential for a rapid and cost effective energy system transformation.
We will explore in more detail how the institutions of the UK energy governance system have to alter, and how regulation has to be reformed if the UK is to achieve that coordination. We are going to give examples of good governance in other countries, and finally we will bring all this together in a fit-for-purpose Energy Governance Framework. I am now going to hand over to my colleague Rebecca Willis, who will introduce herself and who will lead you through this week. Hello I’m Rebecca Willis, and I work on energy and climate governance, particularly the question of how you set a strategic direction for the energy system.
As Catherine says, this week I will be leading you through exactly how governance and institutions need to change to enable rapid transformation and decarbonisation of the energy system.

This week we are going to look at governance in detail to see how it can either constrain or drive energy system change. Although this week is very GB focused, many of the principles of fit-for-purpose governance we set out will apply to other countries.

Professor Catherine Mitchell will quickly recap on the key points of last week, before introducing Rebecca Willis who will lead you though this final week.
