Professor Kelum Gamage introduces this course, Uniting for a Sustainable Future.

Hello and welcome to the course, I am Kelum Gamage, I’m a Professor in the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow and I’m the convenor of this course. Over the next three weeks, you will be on a journey to understand global sustainability and to see how we can create a sustainable future together.

Some of you may have studied sustainability before, but some of you will be new to it. As a part of this course, you will explore human impacts on the global environment. You will consider global challenges humans are facing and discover the path to global sustainability. You can also see how you can take sustainable steps in your day to day life. You will understand sustainable solutions to real world problems. And we will also show you some very interesting example applications of science in sustainability. You will have access to short videos and articles throughout the course. There will be activities to provide you an opportunity to try out some of the key skills. You will be able to engage in discussion forums and share experience with other learners. Also, there will be quizzes to test your knowledge and to see if you really know your stuff.

Each week should take around 2 to 2 and a half to 3 hours to complete and remember each week builds on the last. So we strongly suggest you go through each week in order. We really hope you enjoy this course as much as we have enjoyed creating it for you. Thank you.
