‘The ten questions you would not like us to ask’: Panel discussion with edtech pioneers at EMOOCs Summit 2017
The EMOOCs Stakeholders Summit took place in Madrid this year, with edtech pioneers and thought leaders discussing and debating the rapidly changing edtech landscape.
FutureLearn’s Chief Executive, Simon Nelson, participated in a lively panel discussion with other key pioneers in the industry: Coursera’s CEO, Rick Levin, edX’s CEO, Anant Agarwal and CEO of Telefónica Educación Digital, Carolina Jeux Conde.
Moderator Pierre Dillenbourg, professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne chose not to reveal his questions to the edtech leaders beforehand, triggering an authentic discussion that focused on what the respective CEOs thought the challenges and successes of each of their online platforms were in particular, and what the edtech sector had achieved so far more generally.
Pierre quizzed the panelists on the platforms’ marketing strategies, pricing models and sustainability. Talks then turned to degrees and the “unbundling” of the education world through collaboration of the platforms’ university partners.
The discussion ended by opening up to questions from the audience, who probed the panelists to find out more about user experience, artificial intelligence and data sharing, and strategies on how platforms can co-operate with research universities.
