FutureLearn Celebrates National Career Development Month With A Focus On AI Skills
FutureLearn, a leader in online learning, has joined in celebrations for National Career Development Month, reaffirming its commitment to aiding lifelong learning and providing learners with a range of in-demand skills to future-proof their career paths.
The month-long awareness campaign, held annually, was established by the National Career Development Agency and aims to encourage professionals to prioritise their career development. With the AI boom in full force and reports that jobs requiring AI skills are growing over three times faster than all jobs, the AI skills gap continues to widen.
Attitudes to work are changing with an estimated 28% of workers planning to quit in the next year, or so, according to PwC’s Global Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey 2024. It appears that having more opportunities to learn new skills would strongly influence 67% of respondents. This is backed up in part by a survey by Gartner, Inc that finds only 46% of employees feel supported in trying to grow their careers at their organisation, as well as 2023 data by Randstad which reveals that only 13% of employees have been offered AI training.
This National Career Development Month, FutureLearn is tackling the AI skills gap. In September, FutureLearn welcomed a new partner, Pragmatic AI Labs to the platform. The alternative university aims to ‘democratise education’, by bringing together experts with decades of industry and academic experience to create cutting-edge AI courses, made accessible to all learners.
The partnership sees eight courses launch on the platform (with more to come soon), offering a range of specialist skills for professionals as well as learners who want to improve their AI and digital literacy skills.
