FutureLearn Wins At The ESG & Sustainability Awards 2024
FutureLearn, the UK’s leading online learning platform, is proud to announce it has won an award at The ESG & Sustainability Awards 2024 for Best ESG Campaign To Reduce Inequality for their initiative that provides free education to women in Afghanistan.
In response to the Tablian’s ban on higher education for women and girls, FutureLearn provided Afghan learners with free access to over 1200 courses, including short courses and ExpertTracks, from top British higher education institutions.
The initiative, which ultimately became ‘Gold Winner’ in its category, has seen tens of thousands of Afghan women and girls learning on the platform through a free subscription.
Commenting on the campaign, the judges said: “This is how you utilise your expertise and business model to achieve social impact. Simply phenomenal.”
About the win, FutureLearn’s Managing Director, Ian Howell, said, “Everyone should have access to high quality education, wherever they are in the world, and this award is an indication that we are one step closer to ensuring they do.
As a brand, we’ve always spoken about the importance of access to high quality education – it’s part of our mission and drives the work we do. Following the Taliban ban on higher education for women, we offered Afghan women and girls free access to thousands of our courses, allowing them to take control of their education and keep learning at a pace that suits them.
We’re proud to have been recognised at this year’s ESG & Sustainability Awards, and we’re even prouder of the impact our initiative has made. We’ll continue to commit to eradicating learning barriers and making quality online education synonymous with the FutureLearn brand.”
