  • I have chosen the Elephas maximus. they are unique to the Asian sub-continent and a symbol of pride. They have always been a symbol of extreme strength and when they become extremely friendly and tend to behave like babies. Unfortunately, they are on the Endangered list due to intensive poaching and exotic wildlife trade besides the man vs. wild struggle for...

  • The challenges I am most concerned about are the negative impacts on Environmental resources and Waste management strategies. Though most of us are aware of the negative impacts on Environmental resources that the demand on agriculture has led to, more light is yet to be thrown on the associated waste management strategies.

    The loss of Agriculture produce...

  • The Mangroves of Tamilnadu, India have always fascinated me and i have decided to apply my learning with reference to this ecosystem.

  • As an environmental professional understanding how risks to ecosystems are assessed is highly important. Though I work in construction, understanding risks to ecosystems is very essential when compiling an Environmental Impact Assessment for certain projects that have a direct intervention on protected habitats and endangered species.

  • The articles shared for the Tasks and the videos were highly influential on how I looked at Sustainability.

  • The course has broadened my focus on sustainability goals. As a sustainability professional, I have not dedicated so much time to assess the priorities of the SDGs. but now during these stages of the courses, I have been pondering more on the weightage of the SDGs and their inter dependence. .

  • I would emphasize on a behavioral change for myself and the people around me. Buring sustainable products, using energy-efficient appliances, saving energy, and using water efficiently. Domestic Solid Waste segregation and waste reduction. Zero food waste from homes.

  • Innovations in Agriculture to reduce the use of chemicals pesticides, encouraging fusion of tradiational agricultural with technological innovations, intensive agricultural data monitoring, farmer empowerment, preservation of agricultural lands, innovations to preserve flood water and manage water resources is what I would like to see in my country.

  • The shift to white-collar jobs has significantly increased, when agriculture industrial processing was automated or mechanized. The general belief that blue-collar jobs are lower must be abolished. More human resources and ideas must be encouraged in agriculture, rather than increasing the number of machines and chemicals used. SDG 8 should promote decent jobs...

  • Industrialization of Agriculture is not sustainable. Industrializing Agriculture means a monotonous standard system or process targetting higher yields with lesser nutrition, deploying machinery, and chemicals. There is no space for innovation is Agriculture is industrialized.
Small family farms are the trend to a green and sustainable future. Grow your own...

  • Sustainable procurement, resource efficiency and Waste Management is the key to the future.
    http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_Accelerating_Digital_Traceability_for_Sustainable_Production_2019.pdf

  • The Ecotopia vision for the future has slightly changed my vision of the future instilling optimistic visions of how the future might turn out to be. The vision of Big Government: Reagan's worst nightmare statement to quote from Costanza (2000) that captured my attention is "Stable human population also took much of the pressure off other species. The total...

  • We have been commonly fed with the notion that the future will be mostly dystopian. This may be become the reality if sustainability and environmental conservation were not taken seriously across the globe.

  • Hi! I am an Environmental and Sustainability engineer from Qatar. I have a bachelor's B.Tech in Biotechnology with a Masters M.Tech in Environmental science. Although I work in the Construction sector, Agriculture and Sustainable Agriculture has always been an area of high interest for me. Sustainable food innovations and farming is pivotal to sustain the...

  • Responsible consumption and production is highly important. The more resourceful the industrial sector becomes, the lesser resources consumed and the lesser pollution besides lesser waste.

  • 1730
Treehuggers die protecting trees in Jodhpur, India
The original tree huggers were 294 men and 69 women who were killed by soldiers of the King of Jodhpur, who wanted to fell trees. The people of the village hugged the trees to protect them from axes and were killed.

The urge to save the environment and be sustainable had begun in the 17th century in...

  • Though it is difficult to pick just one SDG, I would go with
GOAL 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION

  • Perspective change is key to Sustainable development.

  • I was really surprised at the results because, access to quality education is possible only when an individual has surpassed the hierarchy of no poverty, zero hunger has clean water and sanitation. Education is priority only after food, shelter, and water have been provided.

  • I believe the SDGs have covered the aspects required for Sustainable development. What seems to be lacking is how these will be interconnected and how the synergy of benefits can be reaped to attain the common goal.

  • The Indian population in 2020 is 1,387,297,452 (1.26%) increase in population
By 2050 it is expected to surpass 9.7 billion
The projections of this huge demographic explosion will be:
    Food scarcity
    Demand on existing agricultural lands
    Availability of resources
    Rise in unemployment...

  • The population explosion has directly impacted food security.
Awareness is still not enough amongst many cultures. The various aspects have been well addressed in Rosling's talk.

  • Both Collier and Bono are right in their views. They have mutually agreed that to implement sustainable development, more attention has to given to countries where poverty is very high. The SDG has set Zero hunger as its goal because alleviating poverty removes social crimes towards people, animals, and the environment, stabilizing the society preparing it...

  • The topics I chose to read:
    01. Statistic of the decade: The massive deforestation of the Amazon
    02. How big is your water footprint? You may be surprised
    03. Can tourism ever be fully sustainable

I totally agree with perspectives discussed in the articles. These are figures that will actually impact those who prefer to be blind to environmental...

  • 1. Exhaustion of natural resources
    2. Strong ignorance to resource raw materials from waste
    3. Generating huge amounts of waste

  • What are the material and cultural visions of development in your context (for you personally or at a society level)?
-Material and cultural visions of development must complement each other. While we blend in with globalization, machinery, scientific knowledge, and innovations into every day, rural and traditional knowledge base must not be abandoned....

  • Why do you think getting involved is an important part of online study?
    - The most important aspect of an online study is communicating and responding.
-This will aid in removing the barrier of distance and the lack of face to face interaction as done in a conventional classroom.

What barriers might you encounter to getting involved and what are your tips...

Hi, I am an Environmental and Sustainability engineer. I have been working with Green buildings and the construction sector. Striking a balance between infrastructure development and ecosystem preservation is the key motivation for taking up this course. Looking forward to it.

  • Development - All round growth without compromising environmental compliance and requirements.
Sustainability - efficient use of resources to prevent overuse, preventing exhaustion of valuable resources, and preserving resources for the future.

  • A good eye-opener to sustainable procurement.

  • FSC and CoC certificates are mandatory for Wood.
The Carbon offset has to be managed according to the consumption of wood including transportation emissions.
Acceptance of salvaged wood and reusable wood from local consumers and projects must be encouraged.

The document has covered all the areas listed in the framework.

  • The ecolabel provided by a third party must be preferred.

  • Sustainable procurement involves Responsible sourcing of materials, green logistics, ensuring the supply chain keeps up with sustainable standards and stressing on local/regional products, lesser packaging.

  • SMEs must target local markets for their source. The local markets must be thoroughly assessed for the availability of all required goods and services. Engagement of local expertise will provide a boost to their benefits by tap the local potential with lesser carbon footprints. The SMEs must grasp the fact that quality of work or product or service in terms of...

Economic benefits = reduction in cost for utilities, high yield, reduced waste management costs,...

  • Sustainability data is highly essential to identify where we need to be more efficient. This is usually challenged when proper monitoring is not in place.
