It's a fascinating story. Perhaps there was animosity towards people with German names?

I wonder whether there is an index of evacuees during World War 2, their names and where they lived as evacuees. Also, records of National Service e.g. in the RAF in the 1950s.

A small group of trustees/directors made the decision to ask two long-serving trustees to resign. One of these was one of the founders of the charity 40 years ago- a really hard and horrible action to carry out. The organisation has moved forward, widened its mission, established agreed values, renamed, rebranded and has grown!

A great summary of what’s needed. I would say that the soc med manager also needs to liaise with many different people and departments in a large company to know the business inside out. Also, following thought leaders is important to keep in touch with what’s happening in relevant fields.

Having worked as a manager in the National Health Service in England, I had to handle several crises - mostly small ones thank goodness. I'm currently a Trustee of a local charity and managing crises of staff management and finance.
I am not a supporter of Brexit and can foresee many problems - but this is probably not a crisis, more a set of large problems!

I live in Colchester in the East of England, where I see the problems of poverty amongst different communities. The food bank and support for homeless people are both really busy and fairly well supported by churches and other organisations and individuals. However, I think one of the main problems us loneliness, across all strata of society.

The growing gap between rich and poor is a major issue. Of course, there are a lot of broad bands between the two extremes and many different definitions, varying within and across countries. I am often sickened by the over- consumption of almost everything amongst many people who can afford it.
