Hi I’m Jason. I’m a second year Computer Science student studying at the University of Reading :)

  • Simulations are the best way to learn in my opinion, just to let him play around and experiment.

  • @JenniPitter-López It really does depend on how one perceives certain things. For example, machines at car washes are machines but at the same time robots. So it really does depend on your personal view.

  • Will definitely take time for that adaptation to take place.

  • Humanoid health care givers are definitely a great example. More than anything, it's something that hasn't been globally adopted because of the "ethical" side of things, and same applies to robotic instructors, but a great example :)

  • Hope you enjoy it! :)

  • Unfortunately not :(

  • Hi and welcome all to the Begin Robotics program! I'm Jason, a current student at the University of Reading, and will be one of the mentors on the program. If you do have any questions or any useful insight, feel free to drop it below, and look forward to e-meeting you all!

  • @LomandraJoseph Apologies for my late response. Version 8 should still work as the framework remains the same. :)

  • @MohammedElshobaki maybe try to look at the onClick() listeners :)

  • @YashS see my comment on W2 as you @ Rhian, I've responded that side :)

  • @YashS Hi! So to fix this, it may be worth looking into what SDK you have installed, which is mentioned in the first week's content. If you are using Android Studio 4, when you created the project, make sure the language was set to Java and you had legacy settings turned on. WIth the red code for bitmap, it really does depend on if you have done the import or...

  • Hmmm that's strange. Give it until this week I would say, and see if the changes from this week help, if not then best thing I'd recommend is review the MOOC file and load the Week 2 edition to your file

  • What section seems to be not working @joannehibbard ?

  • Welcome to the course!

  • @NevilBiju I would just say it's best to use Android Studio as we can then provide you max support

  • Best way to normally bypass this is via the Developer Settings on your device and the Google Settings available in your settings. Hope this helps @DavidWatson

  • Love to see it :D

  • @StephenGarriga It can take a while unfortunately

  • Try running the code from the MOOC file, as this would give you a brief idea.

  • That's because that code is something that is touched upon later down the line :D

  • That's correct, use the emulator unless you have an old android device lying around

  • @AmaraSesay gets better :D

  • Jason Dookarun replied to [Learner left FutureLearn]

@JohnP Make sure you've extracted the file, and then when you try to open the project, you'll see the android symbol and you should then know you've done it correctly

  • You're in the right direction

  • It gets better :D

  • all good

  • Place it at the end of the list.

  • @Anabel:) You shouldn't need an account, but yes, as mentioned in the comments, toggle the location to the UK as you would not require an account

  • You can download the latest one as it will do the same job.

  • You've got this!

  • At the top :)

  • https://developer.android.com/studio << Here's the link for the latest Android Studio IDE :)

  • So personally I use that version of Android Studio, and it does the job :)

  • Yes :)

  • Hopefully we all will :)

  • I would say so yes, as you will still learn certain techniques

  • That knowledge will definitely come into use! Hope you enjoy the course David!

  • That's amazing! We hope this course will support that growth!

  • Hope you'll enjoy the new course :)

  • Hope you'll enjoy the new course :)

  • Love Super Mario! Hopefully this course will help you create your first game :)

  • Hopefully you'll enjoy the new course!

  • Hopefully you'll enjoy the new course :)

  • Mario Kart is definitely a classic! Hopefully this course helps you out and we hope you'll enjoy it :)

  • The first week will support you with gradually understanding what's involved, but if you do have any questions, do drop them in the comments and we will attempt to respond :)

  • Hope you enjoy the course :)
