  • Hard work started at an early age for both genders in the lower classes. Girls would have been expected to marry and bear children, as life expectancy was much lower. I would imagine that the skeletons of both would be able to tell us a lot about the type of work that was done.

  • The skeleton represents a real person-something that others can connect to. You can empathize with their plight, or imagine what their life was like. While the floor may provide much more actual information, it is just that, a "floor" in people's minds.

  • The removal of bones to circulate them amongst the living may be another example of ancestor worship. Perhaps archaeologists will find examples of rituals associated with this (specific bones being removed, or bodies being placed in a certain direction/manner) as they continue to unearth the site?

  • Legal. I am sure that there are permits that need to be acquired, access rights granted from indigenous peoples, etc... that all need to be factored in.

  • It is becoming less destructive with new technologies. The days of Heinrich Schliemann just digging a huge swath through earth are hopefully long gone...

  • Archaeology represents an attempt to understand the past through the lens of today. As technology improves, our understanding can also improve.
