  • @DanielaRossello Hi Daniela, sorry I had to be away for a few days. Which platform would you like to try? Skype or Zoom, or both? What time/day works best for you? Today, Sunday here is a possibility or tomorrow, Monday. I"m in Valencia, Spain, so I believe 4 hours ahead of you in Argentina, right? My email is teacher.thelma@gmail.com

  • @NicholasCaffrey Yes, sometimes this problems with background noise happen and you do have to kindly call students attention to that. You also have the option of muting the microphone. Sometimes the noise comes from the microphone, so it's better to use a headset.

  • @SoniaÁlvarez Hi Sonia, I agree with you, we have to allow time for students to speak by developing activities that make them speak, for example: to elicit vocabulary they could describe a picture, you could show a short video and ask the student to tell you what is happening/happened.

  • @TynaJacobLeite We could try it together, if you feel like doing it.

  • @DanielaRossello Hi Daniela! We could try it together, what do you think?

  • Totally agree with you!

  • I've also moved abroad and I believe it will be easier to reach more people teaching online, specially if it's hard to find a position in the city you are living now.

  • I share the same views as Marek. I started teaching online because when I lived in São Paulo, the traffic was getting worse and worse and even students would arrive late or miss classes. It was too time consuming. Another point to take into consideration is that you can reach people from all over the country/world!

  • @GrahamJ Thank you for you comment, Graham, I learned a lot by using the tools. It will be great to share my experiences with you.

  • @LindsayWarwick That must be interesting! I'm curious to see!

  • @JaquelineAbreu HI Jaqueline, I agree with you. I teach only adults and it must be challenging to control a group of teens or young learners online!

  • My private students are adults living in different parts of the world. I also had an experience of teaching small groups of teachers located all over Brazil. I've already worked in schools, but some time ago, and not online.

I've already been teaching online, one-to-one and small groups, and there is always room for improvement. Get to know new tools, learn different ways to teach reading and listening, learn how to give effective feedback on written assignments and manage teacher talking time better. I've been using Skype and Zoom, used Google Classroom and liked a lot, but it...

  • I totally agree with you Nha, people are becoming too dependent on technology. I believe that we should exercise the habit of turning off our mobiles and computers and paying attention to what is happening around us. This is a problem that also affects people's lives here in São Paulo,Brazil, where I live.
Your paragraph is well organised and you developed...

  • One of the main changes that affects people's lives nowadays in Brazil, mainly in big cities like São Paulo where I live, is the increase in the number of cars on the streets. There has been financial incentive to buy cars and no investment in public transportation so far. Instead of taking the bus or the Underground more people are driving to work causing...

  • Wow! Lots of improvement for a second attempt.

  • I had the same impression! I also hope that I can improve my writing skills by taking this course.

  • He was able to organise his ideas into paragraphs and we could have a good picture of life in China in the past and nowadays. He could improve his essay by using linkers to join the ideas and paragraphs together and also by revising some grammar points.

  • Hi Stefano,

I agree with you. Technology has been one of the main changes that affects people's lives all over the world and we have to learn how to deal with these changes in order not to become slaves of technology!

  • Dear Anastasia,
I could have a clear picture of the situation in your country now, you have good vocabulary and lots of interesting points of view.

  • Hi, I teach EFL in Brazil and I intend to take a course at a University abroad. I'd like to brush up my writing skills.

  • Thelma M made a comment

Hi everyone! I decide to take this course after a friend and colleague of mine told me that the activities I've been creating have helped her dyslexic student. These activities, using colored cards, drawing and phonetic symbols from the IPA, have improved the learning of vocabulary and specially helped students pronounce words correctly. I've been teaching EFL...
