  • Hello, My name is Khalisa and I am currently living in UAE, I like to take the course because I am thinking of online work which I can do it easily so teaching English would be best for me as I am interested and can develop my language skill at same time.

  • Thank you so much for sharing us your experiences, thought and reflection! It was insightful and interesting.

  • looking the changes that you wanted to see no matter what degree it goes and changing the attitude of people towards something that we are working on.

  • I will workout more to develop and articulate the vision and action plan to make it more practical.

  • My passion which I have mentioned in the first week was creating a positive impact and contributing to the social problems we have as a community to be more specific I have tried to develop this passion in to vision by selecting one particular issues like reducing unemployment rate in our community. The journey we have come across for this course has helped me...

  • All aspects are important to consider and follow.

  • I want to create an impact on reducing of unemployment rate for young people living in Ethiopia through entrepreneurship and skill based training.
A world where we can see young people are empowered, creative and innovative to lead a better life, where they can access to have secured job and support each other and where they can create and build a suitable...

  • she create an amazing impact with limited resource and support, Adaption and being able to use available opportunity are key in her journey.

  • It is good to share such a nice experience, she inspire me more, I like her message at the end.
Changes starts from myself, I think it is crucial to know the starting point for change, It is start from ME, YOU and WE TOGETHER. This is a good equation to understand change and fulfill what it requires:-
    -Enthusiasm
    -Passion
    -Commitment
    -Being responsible...

  • the consultation part with the stakeholders to find common grounds and inclusion of ideas or interests of others.

  • Power is a skill and it can be achieved by learning process, Power depends on the partnership and teamwork to be effective, It can also be effected by wrong timing, It does not remain in same the position, it might fade or shine depending on our efforts. Gathering information or updating information on what is happening through networking or discussing is...

  • Listening is key to avoid miss communication, I don`t think it is possible to have smooth communication without listening. Sometimes we have to listen attentively for the things which is less important for us just to make the conversation easy and successful. The other most important things that works for me is holding my assumption lightly and giving enough...

  • The video presentation is very helpful. I think reciprocity, scarcity and liking are the common experiences I see in our daily life, reciprocity is a kind of give and take principle which people mostly practice it due to the natural expectation we put in our mind to get something back for the thing we do. Scarcity is also mostly used on free market trading.

  • Since I was a high school student, I have been engaged in different community based project as volunteer, This chance has given me to grow up with conscious mind to explore more about our societal issues and how I can be part of the solution.

  • It is about knowing what we are doing and why we do it. It is a powerful question that can show the self confidence with in someone who knows what he is doing.

  • I would say crises and election are the good chance to create policy window. I think we can look at the current situations of our globe as good example for this case.

  • All tactics are important and they are dependents on each other or related to one anther but I think the foundation of all is tactic is step 1 which is identifying stakeholders and the one that can show the outcomes of all tactics is the last step that is Coalition.

  • Lack of information on how to solve the problem , limitation of support from the higher officials towards his policy and attitude problem among the society . The two key points I can pick from his experiences is that how to use media to amplify the agenda or problems that needed to be addressed to the society mainly by using public figures so that the...

  • Evidence is the major parts of policy making process but not the only means, we need to consider other aspect such as context and incentives.
The importance of checking the validity and sources of evidence. And the last key lesson to be alerted on the impact of evidence change in our policy suggestion.

  • I would say both dates are needed and plays their own roles on showing the message that I wanted to pass.

  • Evidence such as figures and numbers are not the only pulling factors to create policy or influence policy makers, narratives or stories have also great role to convenience policy makers.

  • The most surprising cases for me is the cane toads in Australia which is the showcase of failed policy to bring negative impact on the ecosystem due to the lack of research on facts and data.
The first case shows the power of influence through mass media or public speaking used by FDR to bring change. The last cases are more about global partnership to make...

  • I think step one is the basic stage which can help us to create influence for the development of policy because there need to be the presence of challenges or identified issues to show the gap or the importance of developing policy to fill the specific gap.
For the usage of evidence and date: In all process using evidence and data is needed but mostly on step...

  • The keys to balance passion with evidence is based on the date or research we will do however we must also give attentions on the source of the date we collect and the way we interpret date because influencing decision maker depends on the quality of the date we produce that must be the closer the reality of the issues we need to change.

  • Evidence is very important on reasoning of policy change, It is not only needed to influence the policy maker, I think it is also important as guidance to know the gap on the previous policy and how to change it.

  • The first week course was very insightful and It is helps me to digest the relationship between purpose and passion and how it matters on policy making or creating influence on the idea that we want to develop as a policy to bring change.

  • @KarlBelizaire Hi Karl, Thank you for the highlights and summery. It is exciting to share ideas from people all over the world.

  • To be more specific, I will pick the major social issue which I am passionate about to bring change in our community. That is unemployment.
In Ethiopia and the whole Africa at large where the majority of population are young people below the age of 30, unemployment rate is high. Therefore my passion is to reduce unemployment rate through innovation,...

  • All speakers have created their own policy towards the specific passion or purpose they mentioned earlier,It is obvious that their passion is various and driven by their local context. However, we can easily see the outcomes of all policies that each them created is toward to one common goal which is to bring a better life for all or a growth in the society at...

  • As part of the community or a global citizen , I can play roles by engaging myself to any opportunities that create a positive impact to our society.

  • Since creating a policy is needed to bring major changes,it should involve all parties who will be affected by it.

  • All issues are interconnected to each other,we can see that one issue could be the leading causes for others or it could be the fundamental solution for other issues,For example, we take " Education" the luck of access for basic education can lead to other problems such as poverty, health, corporation and so on..so for me I would say all matters are equally...

  • I think all definitions are correct and gives similar meaning, For me all speakers have mentioned the basic and key elements to define policy such as:
    - Set of guidelines or principles
    - Towards specific Agenda /program/outcome
    -Involves process or action
-Decision makers or stockholder( this could be seen as the individuals or organization who involves...

  • For me, purpose is the set of goals or plans which someone aims to achieve it.In most case, This set of goals has their own reasoning or stories which motivates that person to work on towards to it. I think we can take Nelson Mandela as an example here, he was the person who lived his entire life for the purpose of standing to human right.

  • It makes sense that both purpose and passion has to go together hand in hand. In in my case, it is the opposite, I have a passion but this passion was not going along with the purpose.I think many of us know this in principle but not practically working on both in balanced way.

  • I feel like the driving force of my passion is the combination of the last three steps together because I believe that the existence of those challenges in our community has given me the chance to see how I can fill or minimize that gap using my ability in way that I love to do it.
However, from the past experiences of my personal journey I have noticed that...

  • Generally, my passion is on empowering others to create enabling environment to tackle social issues such as unemployment, environmental issues, Gender issues and so on.

  • Individually as a youth or part of our community, I believe that I understand how to change or influence the policy irrespective of some challenges such as opportunities, platform, a situation on one`s country social, economical and political condition.

  • Useful Tips, Thx! I will dive in now to catch up for the last week.See you guys on live conversation.
