  • @ToluAdewara thank you so much

  • When I start to see that there are equal opportunities between the privileged and less privileged young people, when the success of a young person is not tied to how wealthy or connected he/she's parents are but is tied to what he/she could offer.

  • Get collaborators and sit to plan well with them, I will try not to make my pursuit about just me, I will incorporate everything I have learnt from this course, because its an eye opener to a lot of things I never thought necessary.

  • This questions brings us to the realization of knowing if we can pursue the policy or not

  • All aspects are very important but if I must choose; I think the most important of all is "it makes your goal clear", I really love clarity. In my opinion, if your goals are clear, you will not find it difficult to pursue it, you will be fully focused and aware of what you really want. to achieve.

  • I want to help the less privileged Youth (especially young women) attain full potentials and bring opportunities to excel closer to them through mentor-ship. I grew up in a rural environment and I still live there, and I have seen that often times we have a lot of brilliant minds in rural areas, but they lack mentor-ship and are not even aware of the...

  • Thank you, the tool is really helpful and straightforward

  • @JimenaBello Absolutely!!!

  • Becca did tremendously great in using all this key points to influence her policy, I so much admire her, she has really done great.

  • Becca is a great leader, I must say. Its really intriguing that she brought 50 organisations together to support her course and also the part where she got 100 MPs is undeniably astonishing. Becca also made sure to involve people who have experienced violence, this to me gave Becca the chance to understand better what they really wanted.
    To cap it all, Becca...

  • I so much love what jayathma said, it always starts with the little things we do, there is nothing little you do to support a course, that is not important.

When I started mentoring my group of 11 girls, I used to feel like I was doing nothing, until I started to see that they were learning and I could put an eye on each one of them. Its not always about...

  • Hello fleur, does policy making involve financial expenses, if yes, how can one getting funding?

  • From all she said, what i learnt is that, people will not always agree totally to your policy, you have to learn to accommodate others and if possible try to look into their ideas.

  • @JimenaBello Ok, Thanks.

  • The fourth stakeholders, I mean, they are engaged and can influence my policy, that is to say the have the same zeal I have for my policy, which makes it a win win situation for me

  • Loveth Idowu made a comment

Growing up in a rural environment in my home country NIgeria, has made me to realize that if you are not among the elites, you must fight hard to achieve your dreams as a youth especially as a female.

I grew up to learn that a lot of the youths in my locality, minimize their dreams because they lack to see that they could do more with or without money or...

  • I think election and crises are a good one to promote a policy, during election policy can be promoted and during crises it could be established, although these policy windows have their demerit but during election or crises is the best time for every and any type of policy to be promoted.

But in my country, I think during election is the best time to...

  • To be honest, selecting the most imperative policy tactics is a tough one to do, they are all very essential. I saw the importance of each in relation to all other case studies we have looked into that lacked in one way or the other.

But, if I must choose, I will choose "Identify your stakeholders" as the most important, because they have a greater...

  • What I deduced from what Lord fowler said as the biggest challenge he faced, was the people being sentimental about how HIV/AIDS is contracted or transmitted, he had to first their change attitude and thoughts towards the subject. During the interview, he mentioned Human attitude as a biggest problem of policy making, he stated that no policy is successful...

  • I never knew it will be this interesting, I am glad i joined.

  • I want to know if there is any volunteering agency you may know of in Nigeria that focuses on either the youth or girl-child development, I am willing to volunteer with them.

  • I’m not disputing your opinion but in my opinion, it is better to give an evidence that is not not so good, than to stop pursuing a course you felt needs to be looked into because your evidences contradicts your policy. Why? You can still carry out another research to show your evidence, since the first one you gave was not good enough, but having to stop...

  • This course is one of the best thing I have been opportune to learn from in 2020 and Week 2 has been really interesting. Thank you all

  • In my opinion, what struck me the most about all Dr Wooding said; Is the need to let go of a policy we are passionate about, if our evidences contradicts our position, that is a tough one especially when the policy is emotionally driven, and that is why as a policy maker, quantitative data is really necessary.

  • Observational and Experimental approaches are both imperative in my context, mainly because the experimental approach can serve as a quantitative data, while the observational can serve as both the quantitative and qualitative.
furthermore, I think that observation comes before any sort of policy making, you have to note a need for a change in a certain...

  • I don't think there is any form of data evidence that is not useful to influencing a policy idea, In that light; My policy Idea needs both qualitative and quantitative data, they are both essential.

In fighting for a course, there is no limit to the kind of data required, thus; both form of evidence are essential.

  • @GeorgianaOsborn Hi georgiana, I'm glad you do, Thank you!!!

  • Case 1: FDR used the power of communication to influence his policy, although his policy did not last long but he had a targeted audience and for the time his policy lasted, I most definitely believe that it touched the lives of some people that will still refer back to what he did. This brought me to the conclusion that; a policy might not be sustainable...

  • i have passion, and my evidence is qualitative, i do not have enough quantitative evidence to back my policy. I see the need for me to work on research and source for more data.

  • I am most confident about step 1, and in my opinion I think all the other steps apart from step one requires evidence and data. In the other steps, its either you are gathering data or trying to show an evidence to prove that your policy is valid.

  • In my opinion, if you see a need for a thing to change or to be implemented, it means you have an evidence, that thing you saw, that brought about the thoughts of how you want to influence a change is your evidence.

  • My policy idea is; how can the youth (especially females) in the rural community attain their full potentials?
My hypothesis is that, there are a lot of hidden talents and potentials in the rural community looking for opportunities and mentors to help them come to limelight.
my hypothesis will yield a positive result, there will be reduction in poverty,...

  • In answering the first question, i consider all trio (qualitative (human stories), quantitative (data sets) and Case studies) important, Because with a compelling story, rightly sourced data and case studies your evidence is very complete.

  • In helping the less privileged youths (particularly girls), get access to education, empowerment and attaining their full potentials.

  • @TolulopeFalope If i understand you perfectly well, you are trying to say that some policies have no time-bound? If that is the case, i won't say you are right or wrong, but in my opinion, policies can change at anytime if it does not have a very strong-hold and if there is a need for it to change. You mentioned that; the United states government do not...

  • All the above listed policy visions, has one thing in common "Making the World a better place", although, some specified their country, but in all, they drive to make the world a better place for everyone.

  • I could play in any part of policy making that will change the state of things in my country for better and the world at large.

poverty and economic inequality, youth empowerment, gender inequality and corruption, are the foremost change i want to see.

  • The fact that policy making is a rigorous process and depending on the kind of policy, different authority or governmental bodies have to be involved. But why are they not involving the cictizens?

  • In a country like mine, where everything seems like it's not working, I can relate to virtually everything on the list. But most importantly, I think sustainability, climate change and environment, is a very important issue and it affects all worldwide, we need to work on taking care of our EARTH.

  • I particularly, resonate with the first and the last definition. The first one, explains who and who could conceive a policy, and what and what is related to policy, The last definition, added that; policy affects people, of which i totally agree to.

  • I don't know how to express my gratitude, Thank you.

  • That is it sis, I need every woman in the legal system to fight for these girls, they need justice, this keep reoccurring and little or nothing is been done.

  • Certain times, you do not see the underlying potentials hidden inside of you, until someone shows it to you, I want to be that "someone" to the girls and youth at large. Hence; "Helping the less privileged Girls and/or youths to attain full potentials"

  • I see that all policies are focused on making the world and individual countries a better place to live.

  • They all apply to the change i need to see in my country, in my opinion the most important of them all is corruption; it has eaten deep into the politics of my country, I know my country will be better off without corruption, all other things on that list will work out perfectly well, even if not perfect but better than it used to, if corruption could be dealt...

  • I agree with the last speaker, he said "Policy is a set of visions and outcomes, which allow stakeholders and decision makers to take and make actions that affect a group of people - or all people". I also believe policy affects individuals.

  • One person that came to my mind as a result of all that is going on these past few days in my country (Nigeria) is, Hauwa of shewriteswoman, this young woman turned all are pain and emotions into a movement that brings hope to women. I feel really heartbroken these past few days, a twenty-two years old girl was raped and kill, a twelve year old was raped by 11...

  • If you have never been worried about how to fulfill your passion, then do you really have a passion? my answer is "NO". passion comes with a lot of "hows" and "When", But i think discovering your passion is the first step to accomplishing it.

when i found my passion, I was always restless, I thought daily on how to achieve them, and as Ayo said; I took baby...

  • I have never thought of defining purpose and passion this way, but this definition is really insightful. Growing up in a rural environment as taught me a lot, it has made me understand the need for reform in policy making in my country, I believe making a policy that works, comes from the desire to see a change, and that is why I am most passionate about the...

  • This is undoubtedly true, we can not over-emphasize the need of true leadership in African countries, what is really ravaging our economy are the leaders we have, and their selfishness and wrong choice of policies.

  • Generally, i have passion on every aspect of life that can make the world a better place, I really support all SDG goals. However, I am most passionate about "THE GIRL CHILD" and "EQUALITY BETWEEN THE RICH AND THE POOR/ELEVATING ALL FROM POVERTY"

  • Now, I feel this will be a really exciting program!!!

  • As an aspiring world leader, making right decisions and policies are essential. In my country, we need policy change in almost every sector, I hope to learn a lot here, and be able to incorporate what I learn to having a better Nigeria and the world at large.

  • Hello and Good morning, I am Loveth Idowu from Nigeria, I am really passionate about policymaking in my country, especially, for the good of the girl child, and that was why I created “Jewels” a program for young teenage girls; where I talk to them on how powerful they are, I let them know they can do anything and everything. I'm also passionate about equality...
