  • It was in 2020 when there was a complete lockdown, and my business was temporarily closed. I had to choose between empowering myself with further studies and paying my personal debts.

  • Hi

My name is Manu Machaba from South Africa. I joined to understand more about SDG and how it meets with ESG.

  • Hi
I am Manu Machaba from South Africa, Johannesburg.

  • Looking after the environment and mployees whilst making profits

  • I am Manu Machaba from Johannesburg, South Africa. I have desire to know about Sustainability.

  • Yes, our big companies hv ESG funding loans, though challenging to access due to red tape and strict credit regulations.

  • In SA we have seen some of the major banks making ESG Strategy compliance a prerequisite for SMMEs and others to access funding.

  • Oh, yes it will. This is becoming more relevant today then yester years as more people want environmentally friendly products or goods.

  • Perhaps we can add to the above challenges: Green Washing

  • I have a very limited idea about Sustainability.

  • Buy in can also come from employees who have no titles, but are influential in decision making..

  • A perfect exercise to test our new knowledge and put into practice what we have learned.

  • I like the stakeholder section because it resonates well with what is said in Highstakes leadership course.

  • An opportunity, formal or informal, to create sustainable connections with people who have similar interest or will be able to assist you, esp business related.

  • Tselahale Machaba made a comment

I learnt the difference between multiculturism and Acculturation

  • @MelaniedeVilliers We are in the same boat, although mine is a relocation from two cities which are 50 km apart (Pretoria and Johannesburg), with each having a different dialect.

  • Tselahale Machaba made a comment

It doesn't. Multiculturism to be beneficial, it must have penalties for discrimination.

  • Hi

I am Manu Machaba from South Africa, Johannesburg.

  • Hello

  • I agree to comply with the rules and contract of this course.

  • Understand and implement sustainabilty

  • Empowering them with formal and humane skills

  • To be able to identify potential data breaches for clients, and close them.

  • Well, employees stayed in their jobs because of good salaries. But because it is public sector, there was no good service in spite of earning well.

And as for equity, they did well.

  • 1. Protect whistle- blowers
    2. Have a policy that deals with unethical behaviour

  • I believe being ethical and employing best practice leads to good governace and sustainability

  • I am interested in being an ethical, and integrity leader as an employer, hence I joined this course.

  • Paperweight
    Book rest
    Door stopper

  • Stop a car from moving
    Balancing items
    Lift a car
Create a slide or slope conditions

  • I used it back in the day when I was a manager.

It helped me in improving team performance at work.

  • High attrition rate

    Failure of most start- ups

  • Looking forward to learning more on DT

  • I think it refers to ethics, morals, and general governance of the organization.

  • My company addressed equity and fair salaries

  • It means how the institution assists in society, e.g. CSI and ESD

  • I believe all 3 are equally important.

  • Goals C and D

  • No idea

  • Standard Bank

South African Institute of Chartered Accountants

  • No idea at the moment

  • None

  • Ensuring healthy lives and promoting healthy wellbeing in people

  • All the 17 goals.

  • I understand it to mean that the countries that lag far behind must be prioritized to bring them on board. There are various goals to be achieved by, i think 2030.

  • Environmental, Social, and (Corporate) Governance

    It is about sustainability

  • Like i said previously, i would like to learn more, and be able to apply this knowledge in South Africa.

  • I have watched YouTube videos on ESG and I am curious to know mor about.

  • the fake service/ goods idea. It is a grat way of testing an appetite for yor offering.

  • Armed robberies, Corruption: These criminals must be hanged.

  • I discuss with colleagues and friends. Usually i do audio recording, than write down. This helps me because when I am idle or driving, I get a chance to listen to my audio recordings.

  • Load shedding

  • Hi. I am Manu Machaba from Johannesburg, South Africa.

I joined the course to enhance my entrepreneurial knowledge and skills because I am a business Mentor and Coach, mainly dealing with Start- ups

  • Recruit from Competitors and university/ college graduates

  • In SA we are currently dealing with a case called "Facebook rapist and killer (Thabo Bester) who blames it on his past for the crimes he committed.

  • Coercive control is very subtle. People exercising it find it difficult to let go.

It is exacerbated by social expectation and hegemonic masculinity.

  • Sometimes the challenge might be with cultures that believe men should always make decisions. Thus leading to "survivors" not seeing anything wrong in that coercive control.

I believe that partners who enter into relationships for financial benefit and security, unwittingly or willingly expose themselves to this coercive control.

  • Coercive controllers are bullies and narcissists.

The survivors are viewed as objects or as having no rights and privileges; they have duties only.

  • Personally I believe so because the intention is to exert control by forcing the victim to be in a disadvantaged position and not to be independent. It is not about partners in a relationship, but about a perpetrator being "any person" who commits that act.

  • I believe that non judgemental approach creates trust and the confidence to open up.

You may inform the patient that whatever you share will be treated confidentially until she gives you permission to share it with relevant people or the ones that wil be able to help her, of she needs help.

  • They don't hv control over all aspects of their brain parts development.

However they hv control over their choices except where maturity and emotional intelligence are required.

  • It means any form of violence or abuse perpetrated in a home environment between partners and or children, or amongst children themselves.

It can also be perpetrated by children on their parents.

  • How could anyone be so vicious, cruel and uncaring!!!

A very painful experience that she went through.

  • In my previous job, I knew and understood the organization's strategy.

However, firstly it was not filtered down to people in operations. Second, because of this, there was no execution. As a result, their 15 year strategy never materialised, it gathered dust in the EXCO offices

  • I worked for a Public Sector for over 20 years. Generally there is no regard to people, they are seen as just employees that must deliver; no tolerance for diverse opinions.

  • To be an impartial interlink between employees and employers, ensuring policies and directives are effective and implemented accordingly.

  • To me HR means the capable human resources that a company needs in order to achieve its objectives.

  • Hi I am Manu, based in Johannesburg, South Africa. I chose the course to know and understand deeply about what HR is and how it assists in employee- employer relationships for the growth of an organization.

  • Very informative and empowering course.

  • Very informative and enlightening link, Steve. Thanks for sharing.

  • Customers are crucial to any business. But we need to know who is affected by the problem, why and to what extent.

  • The third business is about effectiveness and efficiency by through improvement or standadization of processes.

  • I want to solve problems of high failure rate of new entreprwneurs and also improve performance of stagnant businesses.

  • Hi..

I am Manu Machaba from Johannwsbur in South Africa. I would like to know more about entrpreneurship because i am currently a business mentor, with specific focus on Start ups and Small businesses.

  • Situation power

    Financial power

    Reputation power

    Education power

Referent power is often referred to as Values based power; and Charisma as a separate power.

  • Nelson Mandela

  • I use all forms, depending on the situation.

  • Negotiations skills
    Conflict Management and Resolution Skills
    EQ
    Sales Skills

  • Businesses that innovate survives any disruptions brought about by new offerings or competitors, as well as making it through crisis times.

  • Creativity is coming up with new ideas. Innovation is about improving on the existing to make it different.

  • The Coping phase exposes lack of preparedness if there was never an expectation of any crises.

I think leaders first reaction to crisis is shock, and consequently denial.

  • Tselahale Machaba made a comment

Internal and external factors that affect business, and how to succeed in business.

  • We could also add:
    1. Transport
    2. Employment rates
    3. Ease of transacting with global markets

  • South Africa is also emerging market and member state of BRICS.

Emerging markets will also consider the tech, IR, etc.

  • We must be careful not to confuse personal success with actual business success.

How we subjectively and intrinsically feel is about us and not the business success.

  • Business success is when you solve customers' problems, you are finacially viable, and you are able to scale up.

  • I believe the best canvas for start ups isn't the Business Model, but The Lean Model Canvas. It speaks directly and relevantly to the Start ups, as opposed to the Business Model Canvas which is ideal for very established businesses.

  • Interesting so far. However i feel we needed to get more content in Week 1.

I hope to get in Week 2.

    Looking forward to Week 2.

  • Tselahale Machaba made a comment

The key factirs that that not only contribute, but are critical in the success or failure of most businesses.

Further, that the stas on business failure rate is anaecdotal, we need researhed stats to back the claims.

  • Unemployment amongst your buyers
    Competitors
    New substitute products
    Power of buyers
Natural dusaster, such as COVID lockdowns

  • Lack of customer experience relationships

  • I believe that overall, there are many more reasins that contribute to failure: for example, wrong pricing techniques (over or under pricing), failure to negotiate good deals, indiscriminately offering discounts.

  • Under personal we can include lack of EQ and inability to effectively resolve conflicts with stakeholders and partners.

  • I think the marketing of the product is key. You can have the best product but it will fail if it is not properly marketed.

  • Yes....i do to some extemt agree. However, i will also argue that if your business idea isn't appealing, then your business ain't gonna fly.

However, i believe it will alao depend on tje area or country you are in. In some countries, esp in Africa, the biggest challenge is Funding, esp in innovative products which need market testing.

  • 1. Company Directors
    2. Line Managers
    3. Finance
    4. Learning and Development

  • Lack of transparency and being partial can create a gap in HRM practices.

  • Anticipation is great because it is the foundation of Crisis management. It informs the leaders of the width and breadth of threats, if any.

  • They must be firm and decisive.

  • Hello.
