  • its been useful picking techniques to use in training and ways to respond to a difficult trainee

  • at the end of every training class i undertake a quiz as a form of assessment.
    as the training commences i will indicates areas of the training that are quiz questions

  • training is essential in healthcare to keep patients safe and to avoid staff injuries in some tasks required in hospital like assisting patients to move.
    training tends to eradicate bad behaviour that sets in over time in healthcare provision.

  • i am a believer in learning all the time as what we learned yesterday may not be good enough to solve the challenges of tomorrow known and unknown

  • as a trainer preparation is very important and this course demonstrates that.

    drug checking programmes should be a necessity in most big events

  • i have heard of dcrs ,but this does not operate in the uk as far as i know.
    i am not personally a supporter of dcr,but the evidence looks convincing.

    i found it strange that substance use can be considered to be a disease considering that this cannot be transmitted to someone.

    the moral model,i say this because this agrees with view of people who take drugs to deal with life challenges some of which is beyond what they can control.

  • my culture says no to any form of enhancement to handle life challenges as life challenges do not stop and you do not know what is going to happen tomorrow.
    you should always do your best and avoid taking any enhancement thinking the challenges you are facing will go away once taken.

  • i believe addiction has to do with individual been affected by life challenges and not able to handle it.
    this leads them to doing things believing it will help them get rid of the challenges which does not happen permanently

    i support someone with addiction and do not know the history behind why he became addicted to alcohol.
    He is a very good well behaved person when not intoxicated but a different person with aicohol.

    vapes have become easily available to all ages and this may lead to more children taking up smoking in my view

    in the uk the recommended units is 14 units a week or 2 units a day.

  • i currenting work in health and social care supporting and promoting independent living at different stages of their life.
    Most of my residents need support or prompting to lead a normal life after being discharged from rehabilitation.
    I join the course to build up knowledge of substance abuse and increase my understanding.

  • this course gives me an explanation to many things about living a happy life and supporting my residents at work better.

  • i believe live experiences are a major cause of mental health depending on the life challenges the individual has been through and how much support is available to them when this challenges occur will determine the effect on their mental health.

  • my view is both biological make up of an individual and life experiences affect the mental health of each person differently.
    The support an individual gets and their biological make up may account for their reaction to life changing experience.

    i am a care worker supporting people living with mental health.
    Supporting them with their daily medication.

  • two things i will do more effectively from completing this course is communicating more at handover and speaking to my manager regarding moving residents personal book from the office to a secured location in there flats for documentation immediately rather than later.

  • I try to document as soon as possible so what is written is very accurate ,my main area to improve is making sure i write legibly.This allows everyone to read what i have written

  • there was a disagreement on sofias capacity status,capability

  • listening and prompting is essential to good communication especially when working with people who are living with dementia.

  • when i was doing the the quiz,vulnerable adults was not accepted as an answer.Adults with care support was.This was new to me

  • as a carer ,i would have had contact with sofia and listenened to her at different times.I will reflect on what sofia might have said to me and bring them to the table at the meeting.

  • in my role ,any concerns i have had about safe guarding is noted and reported to my manager and that makes me feel i have supported my residents interest .

  • learning how to support my residents better is key to my personal developments and ability to do my job.

  • explaining the forgetting curve is very useful as every trainer will feel satisfied knowing that the trainee remembers what has been thought.

  • i do not have any experience of ADHD.I am learning something new.

  • the lockdown was very telling on my residents and even the current permanent dress code of ppe is a bit difficult for them to get use to.

  • music is an essential tool in helping people living with dementia enjoy their day.
    i find singing and dancing for my residents gets them interested though i am not a good singer.

  • I tend to approach my residents with a happy mood to catch their attention before introducing why i am with them.
    this works sometimes and if it does not,I sit down to their level to gain attention sometimes i sit on the carpet so they can see me while speaking to them.
    There is no fixed method that works,I just try different ones.

  • I have made 2 lifestyle changes recently in what i eat and walking every day.
    I do not eat any meal after 7pm at least 5 days out of 7 days.
    I walk over 3 hrs 5 days out of 7 days.

  • I was aware of some of the risk factors ,public health communications seems to be the best way of spreading the news to the public.

  • I mainly do two main things,engaging in a conversation slowly,trying to catch their attention.
    I also give them time to respond and this involves prompting the same message as required.

  • my resident just stares at you when you speak to him refusing to do anything and says things you cannot make sense off.
