  • very clearly written Helen - thank you!

  • very clear and useful presentation

  • As someone who has spent most of my career working on developing medicines and diagnostics I am so impressed with the impact of vector control on malaria and believe it will be key to successful strategies in malaria and other vector transmitted diseases like Dengue - and as resistance evolves strategies will need to be ever more sophisticated to be one step...

  • great to think at village level

  • Well presented Michael!

  • Jon Bastow made a comment

    learn more about malaria prevention

  • excellently described - v clear and motivating!

  • More transparent collaboration with WHO PAHO Global Fund would have helped

  • Jon Bastow made a comment

very sad - good protocols, appropriate Dx and antibiotic use...

  • Quinolone resistance can rise v quickly with overuse and also important to consider vetinary use

  • access and excess great way of framing it!

  • As an early career scientist and having worked in healthcare systems for 32 years I see AMR as an important area in public health, and am particularly interested in how AI will help leverage the big data in surveillance systems

  • all of these processes are threatened due to overpopulation and overconsumption by humans - it seems possible however that by dramatically reducing overconsumption and stabilising the population we can regain homeostasis

  • based in Gex near Geneva, have visited Eden project 20 years ago and loved it!

    thank you

Thanks Ian Williams and have adapted your list to myself: overall for me its about personal and family choices alongside 'spreading the word' to others

    - Educate myself more on the current climate crisis and what I can do to reduce my carbon footprint
    - Share my knowledge with others, including at work
    - Complete power and water usage audit and identify...

  • love the concept and it makes a lot of sense

  • Jon Bastow made a comment

Always found water management fascinating as have travelled to very different places than Northern Europe - for example love the Australian public info 'poem' ' if its yellow let it mellow, if its brown flush it down'!

  • Some of the smart cities in India/Asia are impressive and anything to reduce consumption systematically has got to be good news as the majority of us now live in urban environments

  • this section seems too brief - what about wall insulation ( externally added as well) glazing upgraded that filter light and therefore heat, garden improvements such as planting trees ( for shade as well), putting in moving water and smart meters to encourage reduced consumption

  • big fan of renovations to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprints...what more could be done to encourage eco-renovations large and small?

  • would be interested to know how much cycling an public transport can help as well as city design e.g. parks , waterways, reduced lighting, home working?

  • eating a more plant based diet and plastics - and its more about domestic use - how can we create more nudges towards progress here so that collectively we do what is needed?

  • Jon Bastow made a comment

We are continually reducing our consumption of plastic and packaging in general, and will also spread information to increase awareness of what can be done

  • Reduce-reuse-recycle and get comfortable with a donut economy

  • It sounds like we don't yet have a viable solution to reverse acidification of the oceans, but it seems still worth doing these things to gain experience and perhaps uncover better solutions as we go.

  • oceans are facing 3 significant threats - acidification, pollution( especially microplastics) and overfishing/harvesting

  • we have planted more trees in our garden ( 12 new ones in the last 17 years) we also sponsor replanting schemes and object to shopping centre developments and highlight all the carbon implications to our community

  • Jon Bastow made a comment

I see Biochar and BECCS as two things to be scaled up with proper supervision but unlikely to move the dial enough to displace the other things in play

  • in an interconnected global economy it's impossible to think through all the 'knock on ' effects but I would suggest sticking with first principles of buying local, non processed vegetables where possible and then 'market forces' favour the producers who can adapt to this

  • Jon Bastow made a comment

So far this year we have gone vegan, buy unpackaged fruit and veg ( bring our own bags) recycle everything we can, grown twice what we have grown in previous years ( converting ornamental garden space to raised beds to grow food) and make a concerted family effort to have much less waste AND processed consumption

  • Inspiring course and I would support and embrace Geoengineering solutions NOW, we can always reject/improve them later

  • Jon Bastow made a comment

Renewable energy with nuclear tapering down as renewable energy improves in efficiency. Politically I think it is important to have strong global institutions to help governments to stimulate transitions with incentives and tax penalties, and also handle the global security issues as nuclear is tapered, and renewables are developed without sovereignty issues (...

  • Against because I beleive renewables offer a viable alternative for scale-up to replace fossil fuels and complement/evolve from nuclear

  • I live in France and like the energy strategy here - mainly nuclear with increasing emphasis on renewables. I believe that renewables will continue to improve in efficiency - for example I am on a 'second generation' of solar which is 4 times more efficient than the first gen I had before...wind and wave also seem to be improving significantly in countries...

  • lots more recycling, the derelict train line has also recently been converted to a cycle/walking track which is being extensively used

  • Global warming is one of the key threats that climate change poses, and as ice caps melt and oceans rise many habitats for humans and animals are coming under increasing threat. I live near Geneva where glacial retreat is very evident around Mont Blanc, which directly impacts winter tourism such as skiing, and also has implications for animal habitats. Wolves...

  • slow and solid- and Elephant!

  • one of my favourite quotes from Voltaire is that ' the job of the physician is to amuse the patient while nature takes its course' although medicine has progressed a lot since then it is still I believe important to amuse, motivate and help patients through what are often difficult moments

  • health - 'a holistic state of physical, mental, emotional, and social wellness supported by an integrated and technologically sophisticated healthcare delivery system tailored to meet the entirety of a patient’s medical needs, including disease prevention and management of undesirable conditions, comorbidities, complications, and unique patient circumstances '...

Great foundation course - well done!
