  • Hi @DeborahDavid , thank you for your comment.

On what kind of product did you find that label?

Here is some information about food labelling regulations especially for the UK already: https://www.gov.uk/food-labelling-and-packaging/food-labelling-what-you-must-show

  • Hi @SoniaP , it is great to hear that the course helped you make more informed choices. Did you already end up buying another product that the one you usually buy, due to what you learned this course?

  • Hi @RichaBakshi
    thank you for your comment!

The topic of healthy and unhealthy oils is indeed a complicated one. For example, whether an oil is healthy or not does not only depend on the oil, but also on how you use it and so on. Here are two articles that discuss this topic, I hope it helps you:

  • Hi @SuzannaS. , thank you for your comment.
To find out more about the products you like, you can start looking for tests of independent institutions that examine consumer goods. In Germany, for example, there is Ökotest (https://www.oekotest.de/) and Stiftung Warentest (https://www.test.de/). Do you know of any institutions in your home country?

  • Hi @GillianRoper , thank you for your comment.

Indeed, health and nutrition claims can be very confusing. Try reading step 2.10 (https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/understanding-food-labels/1/steps/822671) which covers that topic.

Labelling on the front of pack (FOP) does not mandatory have to be more useful to the customer, but it often is, for...

  • Hi @JohannavanVrede , thank you for your comment, you have some interesting thoughts there!
Maybe you are already there by now but, based on what you wrote, I think you may like step 2.7 about additives (https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/understanding-food-labels/1/steps/820304) and step 2.10 about the difference between health and nutrition claims...

  • Hi @KätrinKaru ,
thank you for your question. In step 1.5 you can read:

"Prepacked food carries all this information on the package or on a label attached to the package but food that is not prepacked only requires information on allergens (although other data might be mandatory depending on the country it is sold in). In this course, we’ll focus on...

  • Hi @BarbaraK-S

thank you for sharing your thoughts with us and elaborating so detailed on the issue.

Indeed, organic farming can lead to a higher need for land, for example, because the yield decreases (as you mentioned) or to provide more space to the animals.

Do you know of a label that also includes these issues into their evaluation?

  • Hi all,

Thank you for sharing some really valuable thoughts! It seems that there are a few similar opinions that have been shared during the discussion:

    • Not many of you pay attention to them
    • Many products don't even have labels that we could use to make informed...

I'm looking forward to your ideas!
