  • I like the discussion and the content, because, its new for me and gave me inspiration, and the reading list quite interesting.

    Thank you very much

  • I agree with employing an expert to the teams, it could up the moral and it could motivate the others to learn and the other could learn from the expert, we could do both, training and got advice from the expert on the team, so we could grew together to achieve team goals

  • The courage to take action, to start, and influence others. If we even not start to learn, take a risk, how could we implement this BIM, we need the courage to do it.

  • We could train by join training every 6 months, subscribe to the BIM Software company to get news regardings the updates. And after join training, must be implemented to increase the finesse of using the software.

And we need to read about what the worlds need, in this modern era. and try to match with our works.

  • AEC Organisation should understand human behaviours are for knowing how to treat a member that have certain traits, so it minimizes the member to halt the implementation of BIM

To put the positive mind and have clear goals to motivate them, so when they start to stop, they can walk again and do it again

  • We should make there is no "i" in the team, but "we" and "our", that all our works and set a goal to the team, regardless of different personality, we should make all the member of the team feel responsible and have a better relationship with the other.

  • There are no strategy and training about BIM, I am working at a small company and i have asked my boss about it, there is no encouragement to use it, and need time and effort to train the staff to be able to use BIM.

  • The drivers of BIM, I took from the article as an inspiration, there a lot of websites that provide information about BIM,

The challenges and opportunities, we face the same challenges in every country and organisations, i took away in the comments, that how people thought about it and how to break a limit to pursue this BIM Tech

    Components of BIM...

  • If I were a manager, I would take the team to visit the company using BIM, and ask their opinion about it, and give some motivation, that we will gonna use that and so on, and give them training regarding BIM, and try on 1 small project and then evaluate and try to do better and at the end, all the project using BIM

  • I agree with this, its feel hard to adapt to the new technology and this not only includes one person but their teams and its new for them, need time to adapt and need a motivation to do it

  • Firstly to motivate the team is to focus on themselves, like what the advantage for them, so its good to use BIM to save the world, to keep the world good for our grandchild, and with the advance technology, later on, 2040, we need to adapt with the technology, if not we cannot compete with the young generation, with all machine that can replace human force to...

  • Actually, the problem in my country or even in my workplace also similar to the challenges mentioned by this course

  • The challenges are from many sides, firstly from the client that lack of knowledge in BIM technology, need to buy the license and train the team regarding BIM Technology.

The opportunity is you can reduce the cost and also the time in the meaning to make more profit, with the efficiency we got from implemented the BIM,

  • BIM in the next 20 years, could be implemented by up to 50% of all construction company with advance level of BIM, and with the development of technology now, BIM could update automatically, with the automation technology, machine learning. I do hope with BIM, we could make our earth better with improving efficiency and managing wastage.

  • 3 key drivers,
    1. The readiness of all sectors in construction(From the worker until the directors.
    2. Strong determination in implementation of BIM
    3. Regulation

In the digitalisation world, the construction sectors need to adapt with the new digital world. for the future, we could monitor and check all the progress of the construction, and we can...

  • I see BIM as the future of the construction industry. The old way will slowly perish and changed to digital technology. I see this BIM as an opportunity for my career and knowledge.

  • The different is on the output, but the same process, likewise with BIM, we integrated all construction cycles, from the design until the building finish and do the maintenance.

For me, BIM is a complex system for construction, that's all in, that included all cycles from the construction. Using all new technologies. BIM is to monitor and lessen the...

  • Keong Mas building at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Indonesia. The building looks like snail shells, was built in 1984. I choose this building because of in 1984 Indonesia could build such a building like a shell. and it is become an icon until now

  • I think every building used concrete for the structure and other components

Try to recycle material of the concrete, minimize the used of fossil fuel for the energy, optimizing the process of cement production.

  • Great material for the introduction of BIM, and I got the point and getting more interested in BIM

  • It was built in 2016, I think this building cannot last till 100 years, this year there are a lot of repair at the rooftop due to water leakage, and not well design, need to modify.

  • Yes, a perforated screen to less sunlight, yes that just for a beautiful look

  • I am from Indonesia, tropical country, I would improve the air circulation inside the building, so don't need much energy by using air conditioner to cool the temperature, and that link to the lightning we need open space for the air and sunlight come through

    change to a wider environment

Example of sustainable design that inspired me

  • A slope glass to let through the air, for air circulation in the building

  • Billy Billy made a comment

Hi my name is billy, i work at contractor company in Malaysia, and I am curious about the sustainable design, I am searching for an idea for my future company. i hope I can learn a lot from this course

  • I think we need to design in a holistic way and must take note in detail
Basic concept is the integration, make it easier to track the progress of construction, and make it easier to access all the information

With modelling we can imagine and try to do simulation like the real one, to check is it right or need more adjustment

  • Hi, I am billy, from Indonesia, currently, I am working as a civil engineer in Malaysia, I choose this course to get more knowledge in construction industry, and also I have interest in sustainability, hope with this course, I become better.

  • Passive house, that has positive energy and zero-carbon, to adapt the existing building we need to redesign, redevelop, and change to a sustainable way.

in the future, we will design a sustainable building with all 3 pillars applied, and the construction industry slowly will follow what has changed and the sustainable construction will be normal in the...

  • Yes, by using recycle products.

  • I think we should make it popular, to make a sustainable design is normal, the unnormal is the old construction.

  • absolutely, there must be the first who broke the egg, and then others will follow. But we must take action to make the other city or country start building a sustainable city like Masdar

  • I understand in general for those 3 pillars, need more cases and innovation through the world. And those pillars have their on impact and each pillar linked and cannot be called sustainable if one of the pillars is not applied.

  • Tom dollard said, what a point we build a building that not fulfil people needs, so the people were not interested in the building and the building could be abandoned, and need to redevelop again.
People opinion is necessary for the research, what should the developer build the building and so on, so the building meets their needs.

    i think this could be...

  • The conflict may be about the cost and the price that the developer offer to the ends or customers like we need a sustainable material, and local workers and that have a high price compared to like foreign worker, material from others country.

a housing and real estate legislation, that control every section to build a house or real estate, to maintain and...

  • It is better to have a holistic approach, to get a clear and wider view, especially in social sustainability, we could see from the bottom until to the top of the social aspects.

  • I think governments should take the initiative since governments could cover the whole country and make the contractor, the private sector to design and build the sustainable building, with mandatory to implement sustainable economic, sustainable design, and all sustainable cycle.

  • I never have been to Singapore, I thought the policies and stakeholders already aware of climate change and try to mitigate climate change with the policies.

  • The learning legacy, so people could learn and try to modified and apply in their project, and also the documentation and records, it was great to have comprehensive records.

  • I haven't got experience with the SPM, BIM, but as I know, these few years BIM had been getting a lot of attention and development, many contractors around the world tried to implement BIM, because all of the integrity, we could combine all aspect, like design, structure, cost, schedule, and so on with BIM, and with BIM there are many possibilities to improve...

  • The barriers are from the stakeholders, it comes back again to the stakeholders, what owner want about the building, the design, the policies about the sustainable aspects, it has to be started in all country, governments and people must aware and take action, to make policies in construction industries about the sustainable system.

  • 1a. Change the function of an old building to like a new one, with remodified the interior, decoration, and retrofit if needed. for instance, an old office building converted to an apartment.

1b. the building owner, developers, and the best is very less carbon footprint because don't need much construction, we just redoing the layout and the M&E, plumbing....

  • Firstly, the method is unpopular and a lot of company in particularly my country Indonesia, don't know how to implement the 4Rs, the methodology, and I thought it takes time and not simple way to finish the work.

  • Planning & Design Phase: These are the crucial part to determines would the building become sustainable or not, in my project now, I saw the architect had not well designed the building, for instance, there is a small room have a lot of Air Cond, these could be wasted, not effective.

Construction Phase: In my experience, it is hard to apply sustainably in...

  • We could use the recycled material and make an efficient method to install or construct the building to minimize the energy usage.

  • yes, I thought it was the transportation and industrial sector.

  • Yes possible, we must find a way to maximize the material used to get a bigger output, maybe we could change the method, make a sustainable design due to weather condition.

  • I have already known about the sustainability concept and just knowing about the fact, construction industries had a big effect on the environment based on data.

I think the construction sector that moved to sustainability is not enough, we need to unite from all sector, government, and people to move together to sustainability practices. But with the...

  • Green Construction Green World

  • Sustainability is not a common topic in my workplace (Contractor), but I often heard about the sustainability these years, because now there are many start-up companies that highlighted the sustainability aspect to save the environment, I heard oil and gas companies and FMCG companies have already implemented the sustainability for their operation and many...
