  • Professor Julie and other team members, you are very wonderful, and a special thank you to Durham University for the opportunity.

    Thank you, all.

  • All information dolled out in this course must be taken seriously. As a consultant, a leader, or change agent, we must consider the hilltops of every member of our organisation. The youngest in the organisation can make as well as mare the progress of any change program.

The organizers of this course are very wonderful. Thank you

  • Succinctly coined! Good summary.

I particularly fell for this statement:

"Creating change with people can help engage them in the process of change, so look for opportunities to empower and involve employees."

It is a great tool for me.

  • As Examination Officer in my school, I introduced an online version of the scores inputting mechanism (google sheet) so as to guide against endless time spending on physical insertion of scores of old style.

Some of my colleagues found it difficult due to one issue or the other. Eventually, we got it right and everybody was happy.

    Lessons learned...

  • As mentioned before, Anna needs to retract our steps, review all the phases of the change program, and see where she made some mistakes.
She can still make it through to the end if she considers the hilltops of all the members of staff in the Cosmetics Company. People want to be recognised.

  • We will continue to learn every day.

"When a change starts failing, we will recalculate our steps, and shift the paradigm. The end product must be a productive phenomenon."

  • I have been involving in a change project of examination pattern in my place of work since 2017. The project which I introduced while I was a member of the committee. I was appointed the chairman of the committee in 2018, and immediately I assumed the office, I carried everybody along. I also told them in one our sessions that everybody should be ready to key...

  • This week lectures have been impactful.

  • I look forward to a time when this will be materialised.

  • Jane should have conducted a survey to investigate what militated against the expected development before her appointment. By doing that, someone might have hinted her about the Program Manager's attitude to change from the beginning. Her first assignment would have been to deal with the situation before her approach.

  • In my own little capacity, before I delve into any changed policy, I do consultations, and I allow the majority to carry the day.

Listening, sincerely, is a skill that should not be toyed with as a leader. It brings one close to people than expected.

  • Ethical culture must be revived in all organisations.

    Good information.

  • The only reason why someone will prove difficult in accepting the changed policy may be that the person had been neglected in the decision making from the first beginning. The best solution is to shift the paradigm and give the person a sense of belonging.

  • I would have recommended that Anna used the first paragraph of the bulletin to appreciate all the members of staff (the rank and files). This will work for her as a magic. She should have also sought for their cooperation, and then highlight the next steps on the pipeline to change the face of the company.

All what she mentioned are not out of context. She...

  • The two scenarios are realistically true. Rachel is in a better place compared to where Graham is. The emotional level in scenerio 1 is better than the scenerio 2.

To me, the senior managers in scenerio 1 have done great things by carrying all the employees along, and also by making them fill among the decision makers.

    Leaders need to bring themselves...

  • Good efforts.

  • Good material.

  • The HR only needs to be carried along as a senior manager of human and resources. He can talk to other employees since most of them passed through him before they were employed.

Ann just need to calm down and relate well with everybody including the security guard of all their stores for the change to be diffused as speedily as expected.

  • Introduction of change may not be a problem so far people are carried along at the very beginning. I'm a change agent, and I'm always proud of it.

I introduced a different pattern of collation of examination results of our students due to the present situation of COVID-19 pandemic. People keyed in, and there is no regret at all. Though, there was a little...

  • Good move! Which country are you from? I've some things to say but curiously to know where you are so as to tailor them to your locality.

    Thank you.

  • It is one thing to be a leader. It is a different challenge if one doesn't have leadership skills. Some leaders know all these steps, they have attended many seminars where they have been exposed to all these change steps. What I think is the major problem is our individual formation, background and expectation for life. Some leaders don't care of their...

  • I look forward to learning more. This is getting interesting.

  • Hi everyone, I'm Adekunle Asimiyu from Lagos, Nigeria.

I'm a teacher, and Head of my department. Managing people can be somehow difficult if it not properly done especially if there is a break in communication network. I need to learn how to manage people for my present position, and as well as for the preparation for future opportunities.

    Thank you,...

  • I'm good to go...

  • Good decision.

  • Asimiyu is my name. I'm from Lagos, Nigeria. I want to expand my horizon in acquisition of basic skills in English Language.

    Thank you

  • I really enjoy this course.

    Thank you!

  • It is indeed a fruitful journey from the beginning. I wish to advance my knowledge on this topic immediately after I complete this course.

    Thank you for the opportunity

  • I'm already working remotely. I think I only need to advance in technological and communication tools to aid more works and task accomplishment.

  • We use WhatsApp, google meet, and Zoom for easy communication. We will, however, explore other available apps for the smooth delivery of all our tasks.

    Thank you.

  • G-Suite has a fantastic conglomeration of apps for every purpose. Google sheet and Doc are the perfect apps I use mostly to communicate with my colleagues at work. Being an Examination Officer, I launched a google sheet for other teachers to insert their students' scores which has been fantastic with a little setback from some people that are not...

  • There is room for improvement in any method. At present, I'm using google sheet to communicate what to do especially in getting students' results ready while WhatsApp or phone calls have been in place for easy communication. I only look forward to seeing everybody be on the same pedestal.

  • It is really nice.

  • The idea of kanban is awesome. I will adopt it in my everyday task.

Thank you for making it available for us.

  • Being Examination Officer at my place of work, I communicate very well with my colleagues and superiors. Sometimes, I get pissed off of some comments posted by some colleagues, rather than taking it personally, I ignored the messages at the moment to respond later calmly.

I'm still working on how to make the SMART method my watchword in everything I do, be...

  • Thank you for the opportunity accorded us.

  • Good to go to the next phase

  • Remote working is absolute okay for me. We have tried it before during the first phase of lockdown. It was enjoyable and reduced stress of committing from home to the place of work every day.

Electricity and internet connectivity may be my greatest challenges in carrying out my responsibilities.

Also, my rating will go thus:
    flexibility (8)
    ...

  • Appreciate!

  • Good suggestion.

  • (i) What advice might you give to help minimise some of the limitations of remote working for Lillian? She should work on her time-table and focus on what can make her fulfill all the righteousness.

(ii) How could she keep an even balance between work and home life?
A line of demarcation can be drawn between the two responsibilities.

  • This current situation has paved the way for remote learning, we only need to work everything out for conduciveness.

  • Good for you.

  • Availability of uninterrupted electiricity and internet facilities may poss a challenge to me.

  • COVID-19 has taught us to be flexible in everything we do including our works. Employers must also shift their paradigms from traditional method to remote working. This is the reality of this century which must be adhered to.

  • Majority of the jobs are IT related ones. I won't have any issue with my employer so far we agree to the terms of reference.

  • From Lillian's response, it has shown that remote working will present her a good time to take care of her children, more time to complete the assigned task, more time to see to other personal things with the little issue of social interaction which can still actualize using social media.

I think it is a good idea.

  • Aptly crafted!

  • This is interesting.

  • 1. Why are you interested in remote working? It increases my level of productivity.

    2. What are your motivations to consider remote working? The present situation (COVID-19) has taught us to be flexible, and therefore, remote work may come to stay.

    3. What particular challenge could remote working solve for you? Long hours spent in traffic...

  • This is a nice collection of all the useful words in this course. Great!

  • Yes of course.

  • Good!

  • Working from home sincerely does not reduce the level of productivity. Rather, the productive time spending on commuting from home to the work place, especially in roads jammed with traffic like Nigeria, is judiciuolsy used for more personal thing. To me, individual should determine how he/she wants to spend his/her time after completing the expected schedule...

  • I'm Adekunle Asimiyu, a teacher by profession. I'm a Nigerian from Lagos.
I have secured two certificates from the futureLearn on Digital Skills & Communication... respectively. I want to crown it all with this course.

I love being among productive people like you.

    Thank you all.

  • I'm Adekunle Asimiyu, a teacher by profession. I have secured two certificates on the futureLearn on Digital Skills & Communication respectively. I want to crown it all with this course. I love being among productive people like you.

    Thank you all.

  • I will work on it as observed.

    Thank you.

  • I believe I'm improving, and I will improve more soon.

    Thank you.

  • It is a great joy to be part of this programme. I really appreciate the organisers. I hope to further the study.

    Thank you

  • Thank you.

  • Interesting journey so far.

  • I will henceforth practice the mindfulness approach. Though, I don't have any issue with making myself known in any meeting. Any points needed to be communicated that the atmosphere does not allow me to mention will be communicated to my boss via e-mail or social media. I have done that a lot.

  • Take a deep breath, and forgive them. You need to forge ahead.

  • Productive and insightful pieces of advice.

I appreciate Jennifer for those points.

  • Practically speaking, the approach to issues in the company should be first addressed by the management. There are a lot of Ali in the company who don't have the courage to meet the management to express themselves.

Having said that, it showed from the conversation with the company manager that Ali seemed to be a timid person. She gets frightened by crowd....

  • They all spoke well and their methods are resonated well with me. I think what is paramount is the understanding the people one is dealing with, their emotional intelligence, and other factors so as to know how to deal with them.
One may do a disservice to oneself by assuming the perspective of a colleague who is always confrontational. If one gets to know...

  • Personally, I don't like noisy places. If an argument ensues, I will rather keep quiet at that particular time for the atmosphere to get settled.

  • I partially agree with her. First and foremost, a rowdy session may not get settled at all until the meeting is abruptly suspended or closed. Therefore, there may not be any single minute to hit your mind out.

  • In this kind of situation, I won't talk but I will make my point known immediately after the meeting to the appropriate quarters.

I will apologise to him and resend the message in an appropriate manner. I have learnt my lesson not to send a message in a hurry.

To prepare very well. I guess it was a phobia that can be overcome later. Better preparation...

  • All the points mentioned in the video are completely correct.

I need to listen to the video more to gain more insights.

    Thank you.

  • Written communication has helped me greatly in this period of pandemic. I wish to advance further to one-on-one communication when everything is back to normal.

Former President, Barack Obama is my mentor. I wish to move the whole world like him through oratory prowess.

  • I'm happy to be here again.

  • Thank you for this programme.

    Tasking and equipping!

I'm more available to move to the next phase.

  • My view about communication has changed greatly.

I wish to be exposed more on other ways and perceptions to communication.

  • Presentation-4: I will work on PowerPoint presentation and with little communication skill, I will deliver the message.

Video chat-5: I will reach out to the man on phone to inform him about the need to discuss via video chat. I will then arrange Zoom meeting and the invite will be sent to him via text message or any of his available social media....

  • She can get someone to discuss with using 'who are you' approach. From their, the person can tell her how she feels about their discussion.

    Thank you.

  • Not at all

  • Face-to-face is then best method to use unless if the person is unavoidably absent. Then, e-mail message could be used as a method or even to follow up.

  • I will adopt both styles depending on their mood.

  • Good response.

  • Eye contact complements the body language approach. All in all, each approach will be appropriate for different people or audience.

Individually, we need to understand our audience before we adopt any approach.

For instance, you can't expect to use eye contact for someone who doesn't like to be looking at people's faces while talking. Will you then...

  • I'm a fan of all the platforms mentioned above. I used each of them based on the situation. Face-to-face discussion has reduced due to COVID-19 pandemic and more strength has been given to other forms.

They are all fantastic, and appropriate as forms of communication.

I think mobile phone calls and text messages should also be emphasized. Phone calls...

  • I saw myself in all the styles sincerely. From action-process-people-Idea styles. I think I need to blend the whole styles together and form my personality. I need to blend with the situation.

What I noticed about my personality now is that, I assume any style based on the assignment to be carried out.

    Thank you.

  • Fantastic!

  • I love being myself at everywhere. Personally, I don't like to play to the gallary, rather, I don't like unnecessary praises. I focus on what is expected to be done at a particular period of time.

I enjoy group work, but I don't appreciate too much supervision.

    Thank you.

  • Sincerely, I saw myself in all the 4 styles, and it was so difficult for me to pinpoint a specific or dominant style among them.

  • Who are you? Is a question that seems easy but deeply difficult to answer.

Looking at the audio clips, it was clearly explained that individual needs to sit back and ask himself or herself more questions to reveal identity.

  • I adapt to one-on-one and group depending on the situation. I prefer using narrative to bring my point home to people in order to dowse their tension.

  • My candid advice will be that you should have it at the back of your mind that not everybody is ready to listen to you at a particular period of time. Therefore, calm down and express yourself. The few among them that listened while you were expressing yourself will then translate or interpret your message to others.

Your opinion does not count every time.

  • I'm mostly conscious when I'm sending messages via e-mail or any other social media. The person I send the message to may keep it for life and the effect will also there forever.

A colleague of mine did that to me some times ago. She reacted to a situation instead of her to seek for clarification. Empathic listening is the best solution.

  • Hello everyone!

I'm Adekunle, Asimiyu A. from Lagos, Nigeria. I'm a language teacher, and Examination Officer in my school. I just finished a course on Digital Skills and one of the skills that could help one's digital life is Effective Communication.

  • I'm happy to be part of this course.

    Thank you for the opportunity.

  • Future Learn has shaped our future with digital skills. We need to keep learning so as to keep our future alive.

A present that is not properly managed will bring about futurelessness.

    Thank you for the opportunity.

  • Thank you.

    You are wonderful!

  • 1. I want to know about coding. Aside learning it online or from someone, what are the personal things I need to know or acquire before delving into learning it?

    3. "Continue exploring. You can't exhaust it unless you are exhausted."

  • Time management comes with discipline. I will suggest you read "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Steven Covey.

  • For you to get out of financial mismanagement, you need to learn about financial intelligence. You can go online to know more about it.

  • I suspect Amina is suffering from listening challenge. She may need to undergo language learning so as to improve her acuity. When she understands what lecturers are saying, she will interpret the lectures very well.

I will suggest she joins study groups. If she can also select a mentor especially in her field. It will assist her to see beyond her...
