  • I think that you always leave a bit of yourself in the work you're translating, especially when there isn't a word or expression in your language that expresses the exact same meaning as in the other language, or vice versa.

  • I've never thought about it! Pretty interesting!

  • Very enriching.

  • For me it sounds like:

It beam a giggle is sun tan pass or
    is acquire an amuse
    umami sat musician
Some Hakuna at an inability hymn

    Very interesting excercise.

  • It's great to see pins from all over the world.
Ilove studying English and teaching it too.
I have a degree in Portuguese and English and I have been teaching English for over 20 years. Translation is something I would like to improve, that is why I 'm taking this course.

  • Hello, everyone.I'm Maria from Santa Catarina, Brazil.

  • Hello. My name is Maria and I'm from Brazil.

  • I agree with Omar. The learner dictionary brings not only the main meaning, but also the use in different contexts, pronunciation and form. It's a great one.

  • In my opinion, monolingual and learner are the best ones because they have different entries showing the various uses of the words wirh examples.

  • In my opinion, being responsible for your own success and engaging with your peers are really important to have an outstanding result in the course. Being creative and not afraid to ask when in doubt are alsogreat.

  • Great definition, Weng Ling!

  • Hello, everyone!
I live in the south of Brazil. The city I live wih my family is not so big, with about 150.000 inhabitants. It is surrouded by hills and I love it.

  • Supportint local business is essencial to strenghen the bonds of the community.

  • Business is an activity that exchange services for a profit. My business is education. Working as a freenlance English teacher makes me feel really happy and I hope that my business affect positivily the lives of the ones I teach, because I surely am touched by them.

  • It's always a good idea to be polite and respectful to others, you agreeing or not with their point of you.

  • Hey there! My name is Maria and I am from Brazil. I'm an English teacher and I've been teaching for over 20 years now, and I just love it.
The reason I'm taking this course is to feel more confident in using digital tools and to be able bring the best of the world of digital learning to my students.

  • 2020 made us all rethink and reinvent education. Although digital education has beenaround for quite some time, only now educational system turned digital, and only because it was forced to.
Not many schools were inserted in the digiral era before the pandemics, but now the whole world was introduced to it, some places in a smooth way, some with no conditions...

  • Very valuable hints. Thanks.

  • I use Linked In, but it hasn't been curated yet.

  • I use mostly Facebook for convrsation, but I intend to start posting something at LinkedIn.

  • I've been more engaged to conversation so far, but I'm willing to start producing some interesting content to share.

  • LinkedIn and Facebook are the most relevant for me. I already have a profile in both platforms, although none is complete.

  • Hi, @AlexKorenori. It also took me a few weeks just to complete week 1. I was taking other two courses and struggling to finish the before due. Now I've finally reached week 2, but I've subscribed to another course that I think is relevant to my portfolio. I'm really enjoying taking these FutureLearn courses.

  • I was really surprised to realize how weak my profile and my online presence are.

  • I've made very few changes, so I still need to make it more visible and complete.

  • I'm passionate about teaching.

  • Interesting change of scenarios. I identified myself with Amy better.

  • I've just realized that I need to curate mu LinkedIn account. It's been forgotten for ages...

  • I totally agree that you have to be cautious to what you post, to whateber you comment and even to what you like on social media. Anything can turn against you.

  • I do have a professional account at LinkedIn, but I surely need ti update it and make it more attractive.

  • I find quite a few people with the same name as me and others with almost
    the same name.

  • I am quite reluctant to share pictures and information about my family and private live or about my beliefs on facebook. I don't feel comfortable with that. And it's also complicated to like some contents. Some people who don't share your opinions may get sensible e touchy.

  • Hi, everybody. My name is Maria. I'm an English teacher and I am going to start giving only private lessons, so I need to know how to make myself seen.

  • My online presence doesn't show my best atributes at all. It's incomplete, dated and it doesn't reflect who I am much. I really need a push.

  • Describe what a good email marketing strategy looks like

  • I'm willing to improve my digital skills.

  • I think fashion brands are more likely to use banner ads, content marketing, and/or pre-roll videos. Magazine and newspaper ads are also pretty much common in this industry.

  • I think I would consider using banner advertising, because it would fit better to my purpose.

  • I'd like to know how I can bennefit from banner advertising.

  • This has been an awesome opportunity. I can only once again thank you Lindsay and Marie Therese, for such a fine course and all attention and feedback you give us.

  • Well, I follow https://www.facebook.com/TeacherDevelopmentWebinars/, they offer some nice webinars for teacher development, and some online communities on facebook.

  • Great tips! I'm going to start being self employed and these tips are very valuable to me. Thanks a lot!

  • In my opinion, APPLE's digital marketing is a winning one.

  • Setting the game at the end is a good solution!

  • @OURANIATOUTOUNTZAKI I do agree with you. There is a huge variery of resources ready to be used and very practical for us teachers.

  • Maria Neves made a comment

I usually set context at the beginning of the lesson either to recollect what had been seen before and connect it to the current lesson, or to introduce a new topic. In both online and face-to-face lessons, I use a variety of resources to set the context in a more enjoyable and clear way.

  • This week was incredible! Full of new findings and great suggestions to enrich our lessons and help students to enjoy their learning. Thank you!

  • For my students, Make Beliefs Comix and, Book Creator would be great tools, but Write and Improve would be a really valuable tool, as they love having the feedback about their works.

  • All the tools are quite interesting and can be used in many different ways, but I like the interective whiteboard the most because it can be used with the whole class. They all can participate on the correction.

  • I would ask them to send the writing through a link in the platform so that I could do the correction and for the next lesson, give the feedback on positive and negative aspects of the lesson.

  • I's important to give the learners all the tools they need for the task. The teacher should introduce the task in class, give examples, model, work vocablary and connectore, or whatever is necessary to build an coherent text, then ask them to write the paper at home, provided that it would take too much time to be done in class, either face-to-face or online.

  • I'm particularly fond of Adrian Underhill. I've done a few workshops with him here in Brazil. I think pronounciation is an essential part of the learning process, so anything you can do or any tool you can use to help your students is absolutely important.

  • Brazilian students have quite a hard time with the TH words. But in general, having a good deal practice, using the words in different contexts, help them acquire a better pronunciation. Actually, that is works for everything. After all, you only learn to speak by speaking.

  • It wasn't very easy because I'm not a fast typer. But I could type the ones I thought were the most important sentences to be talked about and corrected with the learners.

  • I usually do delayed correction to be able to envolve all the students, but depending on the activity, I would make some gestures or faces to let them know something is not as it should. They usually try to correct themselves this way.

  • Not if you do the reading and students listen to you instead of the audio. But its just in case nothing else works.

  • I think one of the main problems is the fact that most students keep their camera off and rarely contribute in class.

  • The chat box and the breakout rooms would be some ways to help the weaker student. Having them working with a more confident learner could also be a good idea.

  • With a group of learners, she would have to use breakout rooms for them to practice, then ask the groups or pairs to give the answers.

  • I sometimes use conversation questions to generate discussions. It came ve used as a warmer, and in this case I would do some game to make it more enjoyable. After that, learners can be divided into small groups to share their opinions or give more information about the topic.
In an online class, I could start with a quiz to check their knowledge about the...

  • Could you recommend audio book sites to work with adults?

  • It could be a song. I would ask them to fill in the gaps, or organize the sentences, or even discuss the meaning of the lyrics. There are many good sites that provide teachers with authentic listening.

  • The most common challenges are surely the ones related to internet connection or technical difficulties, so it’s essential to listen to the whole activity beforehand to assure everything is working. It’s also interesting to have an audio script in case nothing else works.

  • I would use Breaking News English because each of them can be used in a variety of ways and levels. The issues can be used for reading comprehension, as well as for discussion. Besides, the activities provided are excellent!
All things topics is a site where you can find a variety of activities, including reading, vocabulary, speaking, and others. For the...

  • I really whant to know the importance of digital marketing for businesses, and its benefits associated because, as I'm going to start being self employed, I need to know how to sell my image and my product well.

  • Thanks for the opportunity.

  • I would share the screen with them or provide a link so that they can access and follow during the lesson.

  • In my opinion, teaching reading can be more challenging, because their attention quite short. Students tend to get distracted to most anything around them, and it's very easy to simply open a new tab and take a look at that game enjoy.

  • I have a very personal question: Which materials would you recomment to use with business and advanced students that work well in both online and face-to-face classes?

  • As it's been said, the biggest challenges you may go through are the possibility of having technology issues, running out of options when your students are fast and productive, to name a few. My advice is to check everything beforehand, plan all the steps of your class and have some extras in case of free time or additional practice.

  • I usually have a talk at the begining of the course and ask questions to check if they can relate to eache other, if they have something in common or even if they get interested to what the other has to offer. I usually ask about their likes, routines, favourites (food, films, books, music...) and so on. It's also interesting to get to know why they're...

  • Getting to know your students and their needs, their likes and dislikes, and showing empathy, for me is a very good way to build rapport. Always try to find something that connects you and them. Be there when they need. They have a lot to give, so make them feel condident to share with you and with others.

  • First of all, I would go through the activity with them to make sure they understood the whole task. After that, I would sellect the groups of four and separate parents in one breakout room and students in another breakoutroom. I would allow them some time to set their strategy, then ask them back to roleplay for the class. I would also ask the audience to...

  • They can use Whiteboard to draw pictures, write answers, check answers, do a collaborative activity, and other number of creative moments.

  • I like Zoom. The breakout rooms make a huge difference. And the whiteboard allows can be quite fun.

  • I think internet connection can be really distressing, because you would have to interrupt your lesson and restart somehow, but students not sharing their screen or avoiding participating is quite complicated, too. Sometimes it's challenging to make everyone have the same interest at the same time. But it's important to stay confident and prepare enjoyable...

  • I need flexibility to be around my family, that's for sure, but teaching online for me means the possibility of being in contact with people from all over the world, different cultures and the change to learn from others as well as sharing with them some of my own learning. For me, I get from my students as much as I give.

  • I teach from teenagers to adults, from general English to Business English, but I really love teaching adults and English for specific purpuses.
I intend to teach not only local students, but also learners from around the world. For next year I'm going to start working for myself, so that I can shape the programs according to the demand. I love it!

  • Thanks Marie Therese! I'm really looking forward to this course.
My name is Maria and I'm from Brazil. I've been teaching for over 20 years, but, for health reasons, I decided not to work for a year to recover. Then the pandemic stroke! Now I've been attending webinars, doing some online courses and trying to reinvent myself in order to get back in 2021 with...
