The first casualty of war is the truth. Propaganda played a big part in all governments plans.

  • That was a hard watch, those guys must have gone through hell

  • The panic buying situation is something which is beyond embarrassing.
I’m so glad those people who are so selfish were not around in 1939

  • Great article

  • Many digs take place when there are plans to place roads, houses and any modern building work which could destroy or bury historical sites for ever. Which makes planning even more important in these cases, as often it could be a race against time

  • I have always loved history, and although a complete ameteur I caught the archaeology bug big time when exploring the WW1 battlefields

  • Excellent course a massive well done to all the contributors.

  • Seems like the earth is flat, the moon is made of cheese and the Jews are to blame for just about everything ranging from 9/11 to the Japanese sunami. We live in strange times

  • Myself included

  • I had never heard of the 3D test, I have now

    Prof. Litvak knows his stuff.

I wouldn’t like to go home late if she was waiting for me. Apparently her husband has not spoken to her for five years, they haven’t fell out he just doesn’t want to interrupt her.

  • Wow just Wow

  • Outstanding explanation and video

  • Never knew in the beginning the soviets supplied guns and support to the Israeli fighters. Every day is a school day.

  • The far left seem to think of Israel as some sort of despotic country whose sole purpose is to crush the Palestinians, this definatley clouds their judgement and leads to anti semitic actions and comments. Israel is a democracy.

  • I can never get my head around the Holocaust deniers when there is so much evidence and eye witness testimony. The Nazis kept copious amounts of records regarding the camps, prisoners, and just about everything else that help sustain their murderous deeds.
If they argue that the Holocaust was a myth or overstated I say simply to them where are the six million...

  • Dr. Vago is excellent in explaining the many and varied issues brought up in this course

  • I have never heard of Philo-semitism in my life. I will have to watch this chapter a few times to understand it,if I can

  • This is a quite excellent course.

  • Jim Smith made a comment

    There’s that word again “Others”

  • Jim Smith made a comment

Still staggers me to think about it. 6 million men, woman and children , shot, gassed, worked to death, starved to death for being Jewish.

  • Hitlers’ hatred for the Jews in my opinion reached it’s demonic zenith after the defeat of Germany in WW1. He long held the opinion that the Jews were to blame for just about any economic or social failings in Germany but after the war his hatred for all things Jewish escalated immeasurable.

And unfortunately as Goldhagen and Browning say he reached a willing...

  • I had looked at that picture so many times before I noticed the other rifles on the left. It sums up in a way mans inhumanity to man

  • The Treaty of Versailles was thought by so many as not a peace treaty but merely a cessation of WW1 until the next war.

  • Extremely interesting course with new facts emerging in every session

  • If you tell a lie often enough, then unfortunately it will be eventually believed by some people

  • Once you start calling any group of people degenerates your on a very slippery slope.

  • It may have been called the Enlightenment but the Jews were still regarded as the “others”

  • That is a massive turnaround in the space of 20 years by ML.

  • Canon 68 ,a precursor for some of the Nuremberg laws

  • Jim Smith made a comment

It seems that anti Jewish propaganda was alive and flourishing in the 12th and 13th centuries

  • You can almost hear the Romans saying “ It wasn’t us who killed Jesus ,it was those bad Jews”
Prof. Fredriksen is excellent at explaining the ins and outs of the different factions

  • Some of the Jews were mercenaries in ancient Egypt another fact I knew nothing about.

  • That’s a very fair assessment I would say

  • Have to admit I never knew the phrase antisemitism only really became popular in the 1870s I thought it was used long before that

  • And unfortunately will continue to be so

  • Jim Smith made a comment

A wonderful team effort a massive thank you to all involved

  • Jim Smith made a comment

Well done to all involved I really enjoyed this course.

I still think the white rabbit looked well dodgy

  • My thoughts exactly

  • Jim Smith made a comment

Bullet may be spot on , even if his methods may have been a bit iffy .

    Smashing week again

  • Life on Mars springs to mind.
the only thing that's missing is the perpetrators saying " it's a fair cop guv'ner " in a broad cockney accent , no offence to any cockneys taking the course

  • Once DI Bullet finishes using the rubber truncheon on the soles of their feet he will have a slam dunk

  • Cracked it , I just knew the course admin would throw in a sneaky or two

  • I've narrowed it down to 7

  • Now 6

  • Jim Smith made a comment

Excellent work , well done to all involved

  • Absolutely fascinating, I have never ever heard of face blindness before , it's an eye opener no pun intended

  • He looked like my last female date

  • In the first session Judy Dench looked like she had been dooking for apples in a deep fat fryer

    Very difficult to do.

  • Jim Smith made a comment

Struggled to get 4 HRH was the easiest because of his lugs

  • Jim Smith made a comment

That was difficult, I've just managed to make Will Smith look like a cross between Al Jolson and the abominable snowman

  • Probably the finest police interview which I have seen was the one conducted by the Canadian police on Colonel Russel Williams.

He was not a witness but a suspect in some pretty brutal murders.

The way the police conducted the interview was absolutely stunning and ultimately led to his confession and conviction

  • Poor Seth , he was really browbeaten by DI Bullet.

If he had told Seth that the white rabbit was responsible I get the impression that Seth would have agreed

  • I fell for the window trap, people are beginning to see right through me

  • Jim Smith made a comment

This is fascinating stuff , I got a measly 3 Fs

  • Snap

  • The gun would have definitely got my attention unless of course it was the white rabbit who was holding it

  • I completely missed the mouse " should have went to specsavers "

  • I have it seems far too many books on criminals and how the operate but especially how they get caught.

It's alway fasinated me how the " forensic guys and girls " go about their business.

Travelling is my second or maybe my third passion in life and according to my Trip Advisor account I've been to 34 different countries in the world.

    Hope you have a...

Fascinating stuff ,looking forward to next week

  • Bullet should be fired , sorry couldn't help myself

  • Why go to a robbery unmasked when all the other perpetrators were masked ?

  • He was Italian maybe Spanish no probably Indian.

5 ft 3 in height I wonder where Snow White was when this was happening.

A soldiers face whatever that mean.

    Plenty of leading questions

  • Right , let's rumble

Now where did I put my CSI videos

  • Jim Smith made a comment

I intervened in a situation where a young guy was badly beaten up in a race attack on a public bus. The attackers ran off but they both turned to me and shouted that they knew where I lived and they would " sort me out "

I have to say it fairly put the wind up me and for weeks after I was in quite a nervous state.

The police convicted one of the...

  • Absolutely fascinating.

It must be horrifying being locked up for something you didn't do but what if it had been a capital punishment case, it's frightening

  • Same here , just goes to show how we can be lead

  • I go back to my very first question at the start of the course , why did a civilised country like Germany plunge into such an abyss ?

I not sure I will ever know the answer but at least this course has answered and awakened in me a need to find out more

I'm not too sure about the presence of God but if there is one those Nazi perpetrators have got some...

  • As I have stated previously my great uncle was one of the soldiers who was at Bergen-Belsen.

Part of his duties was as a bull dozer driver and it takes no stretch of the imagination to know what he was bull dozing.

He spoke to his parents about it when he came home and then never uttered a single word about it during his entire lifetime.

    I fully...

  • Imagine stopping at one island to pick up one individual Jew , it's mind boggling.

Did they think that they would kill all European Jews ?

In the middle of a war which by then was beginning to turn against them they used essential rolling stock , man power and materials to keep up their murderous campaign

  • 100% correct Leigh but he sure as hell took it to a whole new level

  • If scholars are waiting for the Vatican to release the relevant documents regarding its position with regards the Jewish question in WW2 then I suggest they don't hold their breath.

I'm not sure who the Vatican was afraid of most Jews or communists.

After the war the rat line , set up by Bishop Hudal was used extensively by fleeing nazis to obtain...

  • Very interesting, thank you Marcelle

  • This for me is one of the greatest questions of WW2 why did the Allies not bomb the rail lines or even the camps. I'm not sure I go along with the argument that they were trying to end the war as quickly as possible and the best way to save the Jews was to end the war .

Think of the signal it would have sent out to the prisoners if they saw the rail lines...

  • I watched the same documentary and I must admit it's hard being sympathetic to someone who abused his position.

Imagine living under the pressure of not knowing if you or your family were to be murdered some time soon and the very leader of the Judenrat who was supposed to be a leader and aiding his people was abusing his authority.

  • The allies knew in early 43 about the death camps. Verba and Wetzler who had escaped from Auschwitz had written their " protocols " and had presented them to various groups.
Whether or not they had been believed or people thought they were exaggerating is still open for debate

  • Mans inhumanity to man , sadly on an industrial scale.

    It's incomprehensible, words fail me

  • Only 30 or 40 SS in some of the camps plus local militia, and yet they managed to kill so many people it's simply staggering. Imagine the horror of being a sonderkommando and having to dispose of so many people and knowing that the same fate awaited you.

Words and pictures will never be able to describe the sheer hell of it but we have to know.

    I feel as...

  • How did they plan to move 31 million people , its staggering, they were brutally ruthless in their ideas and actions

  • " Why should we leave its our country " was probably used the length and breadth of Germany by the Jewish population, many of whom fought with great valour and distinction in WW1

  • I still go back to the view that Hitler' s pathological hatred of the Jews, if not fully formed started to ferment after Germany defeat in WW1

He blamed the Jews for this and his whole outlook after that was dominated by a belief that the Jew not only cost Germany the war but were a threat to all so called culture nations. They were the scapegoats to end...

  • The collaboration of many citizens of the occupied countries is something I struggle to understand. Your country has been invaded by a foreign power and you decide to help them liquidate the Jewish population. In many cases they were more brutal than the Germans and that's saying something

  • Judging by some of the comments in here maybe Professor Dreifuss, sorry that should read Professor Dreifuss PHD, BA in the history of the Jewish people and a BA in psychology should have recruited some of the participants in this FREE course.

The good people of Tel Aviv university have put a lot of time and effort in constructing this course and they...

  • My great uncle was a British soldier at Bergen Belsen and part of his duties was working as a bulldozer driver. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to know what he was using his bulldozer for.

He told his parents about it after he came home but would never ever bring up the subject up again during the course of his lifetime.

    I can fully understand...

  • Stalin did the exact same as Hitler , he made his generals feel they were in some sort of competition to win his approval.

Hitler was a dictator who knew how to manipulate his army staff

  • Himmler and his ilk regarded the Jews , Slavs etc as Untermensch.

  • The first casualty of war is the truth . The nazis were masters of propaganda

  • There is a comment in the film Schindler List when an SS man says the Jews will weather the storm and another SS man says not this storm this storm is the SS.

I can't help thinking that the Jews and especially the German Jews thought this will blow over it will get better how horribly wrong they were.

This is a fine course and I'm glad I enrolled

  • Jim Smith made a comment

Never knew that about the free radios. They knew all the propaganda tricks

  • What political life......... It's was the nazi way or the highway

  • North Korea without the moustache

It's very easy to pick on a minority and blame them for the troubles of any given country.Just look at the headlines in any red top over the last few years " Foreign influx of workers stealing British jobs NHS is creaking due to Eastern Europeans etc etc.

Hitler used his propaganda against the Jews and I have to say excelled in it.

  • Jim Smith made a comment

I think it's safe to say that Hitler pathological hatred of the Jews were if not formed certainly began to take shape in November 1918. He blamed the Jews for Germany losing WW1,he blamed them for the catastrophic Geman monetery collapse in fact most if not of the ills that happened in Germany Hitler made the case out that it was the fault of the Jews and...

I had read numerous books on the subject of the Holocaust and I kept coming back to the same question why did a cultured nation like Germany adopt such a barbaric and murderous policy.

I decided to visit Yad Vashem a few years back and it was a eye opener of epic proportions.

I've been to Kraków several times and of course Auschwitz and the size and...

Been looking forward to this course for a while now. The questions Prof. Havi Dreifuss asked are ones I have often asked myself, did the free world know, why didn't they act sooner etc etc
I hope I can find out if not all at least some if the answers

  • I might not be applying for Gil Grissom job on CSI just yet but what a cracking course this has been.

Wonderful content, superb graphics all put together by a throughly professional team.

Well done to all involved and here was me thinking the only star to come out of Dundee was " Our Wullie " obviously professor Black and her team has just blown that out...

I have been on the jury of two major trials within the last 6 years one of which was a double murder and I have to say if I was found in a locked room with a dead body riddled with bullets with gun powder residue all over me and caught on video I would still plead not guilty.

Of course the burden of proof is on the prosecution but juries I found out are...
