  • It's really interesting how these principles and values come into play in a community environment and settings which in most cases are informal settings and people may not accurately decent them.
For example, principles such as equity can not be understood clearly by a carpenter or plumber, if you are conducting peer research in your community.
    So whilst you...

  • These 3 key principles such as equity, inclusion, and diversity are important to use when you are dealing with people such as in this case where you are involving people in your study.

  • Thanks

  • Notably the area and boundary of focus in peer or community research is very open and inclusive. This makes peer researching much more interesting to undertake.

  • Thanks, this past lessons had enlightened us on the basics of peer research and its applications.

  • To be part of a community is to appreciate the values it encompasses and be part of it. As humans, our existence in communities is a natural part of our lives, the conditions that shape and mold us to be who we are. There can be both negative and positive effects of being in a community, but the aspects that we influence and those which also affect us, lead to...

  • Since Peer research is about researching your peers within the same community in which you live or belong, the thing that I would gain will be to gather support and create greater awareness about any issues that affect us all within the community in which we live.

  • I believe Community research will truly address problems and create change in our local communities.

  • The idea of Participatory research is really great and encouraging. Collaborating and working together on research projects can help to collect data and information from varying sources with real-life experience. In the case of academics from University, they may know how to conduct research but they may rely on external or participatory actors to extract...

  • I think peer research is loosely tied, that is being implemented based on the researcher's perception of things about the issues that affect their community. Like they tried to bring some positive changes and offer something to their communities.
Peer Research is more like doing things freely that empower themselves, and the people within their communities.

  • I live in a settlement community, a squatter settlement community along the periphery of the main city areas and I go to work inside the city. So it's like I currently live in 2 types of communities. Both of these community makes me feel part of them because I am currently doing something within those communities.

  • It's great to know the importance of research and the availability of different types of research methods and the context in which they occur. Much inspired, thank you.

  • Community-based participatory research is open and inclusive. In that way, it can extract in-depth and well-founded information from participants because they will feel empowered to do so. People will feel free to express themselves if they feel they are involved and part of the project.

  • @etisamAbubakar Thank you

  • Hi, I am Ricky from Papua New Guinea. I am planning to pursue my Masters in Public Policy and this course will greatly help me in my further studies and my work.

  • Hi, Thanks for making this course accessible. Research methods have been one of the challenges in my plan to further studies and I think this study will greatly help me. I am looking forward to learning. Thank you

  • This model of team development is true, I mean teams start on a good note, and then along the way they face problems. But it is natural as it seems because as a new member of a team, you will feel cautious at first but then as time goes you will get used to it. But at that very moment when you feel that you are ok, you will face problems and that's the time...

  • The stereotype does exist and is mostly associated with traditional cultural practices. You may not know how you came to have such beliefs or thoughts, it just happens to you from your society and cultural background.
For example in my culture, which is a paternal society, females are considered soft and can not do tough jobs.
    Physically this might be true,...

  • By reading these different people speaking their experiences, it is obvious that different contexts or the cultural environment play certain roles in which leadership in safeguarding is practiced particularly in terms of sexual violence or harassment, etc. Like how would you deal with a sensitive issue, looking at the social structures of the society...

  • I think 2 feminist principles of valuing safety and elimination of gender-based violence are paramount to good safeguarding practices in the organization. In fact, many people like to take risks, in many circumstances in their lives or with top priorities in their lives. But it is better to take a cautious stance, evaluating every option before making...

  • In fact, effective leadership in the aid sector is really critical because they are in an area of our society that seeks to bridge the gap between our systems of resource mobilization and our relief efforts. They are the channels through which assistance is processed so that it reaches the people who are affected and are in need.
    Effective leadership in that...

  • I in fact, never at one time came across such cases of scandals in the aid sector, but I have learned about such practices in corporate, civil societies, and the public sector organization. That may probably be because I don't have access to such information.
However, it is interesting to learn that, we are not immune from such ills in our social actions,...

  • Proper Resource allocation and effective systems of management are needed when it comes to funding at the international level of aid. In fact, Internation Aid is about amassing resources at the international level and allocating them to those who are affected or have issues at the international level.
And my interest in this course as a person with a...

  • It is great to know here that; an aspect of leadership is about sharing insights across organizational cultures. It's about sharing insights and guidance through leading, I wonder, how it would be if a boss or leader didn't share such insights or guidance..then there is no meaning in leading...so if you lead, then it would mean that you are leading by...

  • Thank you so and I understand the rules and implications stated here. Hope to learn as much as within the rules.

  • Thank you so much for knowing all the educators, I believe it will be a great learning experience

  • Thank you so much for the introductory tips..I am particularly interested in this course because of my background in public policy, where the international aid sector plays a major role in driving policy changes in countries around the world. Some of the multilateral organizations in the international aid sector include donor agencies like IMF, World Bank, UN,...

  • Thank you so much

  • Thank you it was a great learning experience

  • Thank you so much for the resources

  • Data visualization and telling the story is very important and I am grateful for the tips here..thank you

  • I think the lessons have really change the way I look at analytics..I mean with no background I gain very useful information that I can use to improve on.

  • I think some people may take it lightly, but I think it is an important lesson to learn from.
But all in all, everything is great and I gain much whilst conducting the reviews

  • It's really great to learn the process of managing problems in business through data analysis such; identify problems, finding metrics to identify the effects of the problems, and experimenting with changes to try and improve those metrics over time.
In fact, in my new role as a data analyst with no background in numbers, etc, I have been trying to establish...

  • This is really great..for a first-timer in data analysis, these lessons have showcased the step-by-step process to carry out your analytics report to solve specific business problems you may have.
We mainly analyze to find out and investigate problems and develop solutions to address them. But before, we have to develop a hypothesis, like why we are doing...

  • I realize the importance of using data ethically, and how it impacts our business decision-making.n Particularly, when principles highlighted here such as; accuracy, privacy and confidentiality come into play..
it's great to learn that there are roles for maintaining that such as Data Protection such as in the UK..
It all makes senses how important the use...

  • In fact, a data breach is a serious issue nowadays in this global digital era and many major companies around the world have been in one way or another being victims of it.
Some of the major companies that have been affected include; Facebook, eBay, Yahoo, Equifax, etc. So it's important to know that although you may be a big company, it doesn't guarantee...

  • I don't think it is wrong to combine data from different sources and develop predictions and planning for the business. But what is at stake here, is the security and confidentiality of the information we are sharing.
If certain information about our clients or our information is being manipulated or misused, then both the company and its clients are at...

  • As Aisha ventures her business online, there are issues and challenges she must consider which are related to how she handles and deals with data. One such challenge is her handling of her customer's data which on the other hand has legal and regulatory implications.
For example, the details and information she had about her customers are binding under such...

  • I think Aisa's problem is that; her business is growing and expanding, but she is unorganized in terms of managing properly her activities and the information it has.
By analyzing the data of her business activities and identifying trends and key performing indicators, she can plan and mange well her business activties.

  • These data analytical terms can be useful in helping us understand the basic concept and knowledge of data analysis as a first-timer.

  • The most interesting thing from here is that; through data analysis, you can know your key performing indicators which will really help develop your business strategy.
There are in fact many other data that can help us but this is something new I learn from here so far..thanks.

  • For an online entity that depended on online customers to make its money such as Facebook or Twitter, web analytics can provide data for that business. It is automatic because sales data can be generated from e-commerce analytics and functions from the site.
But with other business that involves physical contacts such as shops or manufacturing companies,...

  • From the excel spreadsheet, it seems that Aisha has keeps the records of the data in the first place, and that's really good because she can easily work on the data to identify trends and key performing indicators.
Another thing is that this record is for Tuesday, Jan 01st, 2019.
    And from that data; the 3 things I can identify from it are;
    1. The...

  • Aisha just started her business and there are many things she needs to work on to really kick-off, one of which is establishing its data sources and creating its database. She can obtain this from sales records, daily numbers of customers as well some data from its web presence.
From this database, she should identify key performing indicators, in fact, KPIs...

  • It's great to create a question first before actually working on the analysis to answer that question. Asking the question; can really help us by guiding our thoughts as we study the amounts of data presented to us.
its about establishing a framework of analysis as guides so that we can stay focus and study tne vast amount of data that may be presented to us.

  • It's great to learn that as individuals, we also produce data or have a certain amount of data, particularly through the things we use such as mobile phones, computers, or even our schooling and our history.
All these contribute to having some data about us as individuals, etc.

  • Thanks, Dr. Andrian Gepp and James Todd for putting this course..learning with you was been really great and easy to understand and digest for a first-timer..thank you so much

  • Interesting

  • Thank you so much..so far so good...I am glad to learn this basic fundamental of data science..I just started my new role as an analyst for the web business and learning this is a great step forward for me..and I am planing to learn more..

  • actually, I have just started a new role as a Web site analyst with no background in maths and data, but this course did really help me a lot..I am not into numbers, but this is different, the role of an analyst allows us to speak number language and that is what makes me more interested.

  • Very interesting learning and understanding how number talks.. and I quote Andrian's words "we take a situation of uncertainty, and we model that. and be able to make the best-informed business decisions." so far so good.

  • Interesting and its great to know that standard deviation is associated with risks

  • That's really great learning how these random variables are applied real business decisions

  • Wow. it's even more interesting to apply measurements such as spread, Standard Deviation and mean etc to the frequency and probability of different data sets..

  • Wow..that's really great to put this data to establish its frequency and probability..we are really talking numbers..

  • Interpreting it in graphs is very clear and easy to understand as well

  • It makes sense here, between the meaning of the variable and the random variable. I mean it is an everyday business decision and learning this through these lessons really helps..

  • That's really great and interesting dealing with probabilities..when dealing with formulas, it seems quite complex to understand, but when it is applied in a business sense, it is easy to understand. I mean the picture is very clear..

  • Interesting

  • wow.. that's great..like I mentioned in 2.2. Probability is the best method to understand and work on your areas of risk.

  • It's interesting to know that larger values of probability are likely to happen. And about the multiple ways to assign a probability, I think I like empirical ways

all in all, it's really great to learn this.

  • I think probably is best used when taking a risks. I mean many businesses take risks that have a high rate of failure and have failed as a result of it..so with the use of probability, you can work out which strategies to take, like if there is a high probability that you would fail, then you shouldn't take that risks, etc.

  • Thank you so much for the introductions and i really happy to continue learning this course .

  • The main takeaway from this week is that data analysis is very important because it influences decision-making at the highest level, therefore, ethics in data analysis must be upheld at all times. this is a very critical area, and also you will have many critics if there is no accuracy and good judgment..

  • Ethics in data analysis as Andrian stated is a great responsibility,,, I am inspired and thank you so much..its really great learning data analysis with you.

  • I really appreciate the fact that ethics and data analysis goes hand in hand, you can not provide a good analysis unless you are ethical. Actually, accuracy is one thing here, and then you have the judgment to make, all these require one to apply ethics..then the outcome of good ethical analysis is respected..

  • GDP or Growth Rates on economics data usually causes effects on the political level. I mean, many politicians can not understand and appreciate the relevance of data indicating their performance so far. For instance, leaders such as Presidents or Prime Ministers, when commenting on specific data of specific performance indicators of the country they are...

  • In fact, it's really great to learn these different formulas and techniques for analyzing data.., it's like I am learning a lot, I mean I initially was not interested in maths, but because I currently working as a analyst, these basic measurements really help me to visualize data and insights from the various angle and interpretations..and its great and...

  • That is really great to learn descriptive statistics, in fact, there are many excel formulas available, but we don't know how to use them..After going through these formulas, it gives some helpful insights into the necessary skills and tips for working on data using excel using easy techniques.

  • It's great to learn about the skewness; the central skewness or symmetrical, the positive skewness, and the negative skewness.

  • Its graph to understand and interpret the spread..particularly as shown in the graph seeks to measure certain periods of the rise to a peak, where it measures to see whether the rise is straight up or goes up in a bell shape. I have been working on measuring trends on line graphs and these lessons had really helped me to see how to measure such occurrences of...

  • wow. it's interesting to see how we can go from the central location to more locations with Standard Deviations and Variance...great to learn it

  • It's really interesting to learn and understand how to interpret data, using the mean, median, and mode. that establishing and identifying a central position among the vast amount of data is very useful in establishing a standard number set among a range of numbers.
I mean, for example, we use an average to classify a group of data, which might otherwise be...

  • Wow, that is great...in fact, descriptive statistics is a new thing to me..but I think it sounds interesting and as it becomes more complex...and its good to give it a try..

  • I am grateful for learning this different presentation of data through different types of graphs, it makes understanding and interpretation of vast very clear and helpful..by developing the skills in excel and using various methods available, presentation of data becomes more enjoyable and fun

  • There are many ways to play around with numbers (data) and graphs..it depends on how well we understand different skills and techniques of presenting our data in the best possible way.

  • Thanks so much...this is so informative and easy for beginners

  • Thanks this will be practical and a great experience.

  • Great tips. I really appreciate knowing that we need to present accurate interpretations of graphs..this is particularly important because people will read graphs and make important decisions..so accuracy and clear presentation of graphs is very vital.

  • The Linear graph is new and interesting to me..I did not know how it relates to time and dates...but it makes sense now with line graphs..

  • That's great...I have been working on something and I face some issues, particularly because the data was so large,..so I have trying how best to capture all this information in a graph..but after watching this video it really helps me..like now I know how to do that by categorizing and measure them using frequency..this is really helpful. I really learn a...

  • Interesting to use graphs and charts to tell stories about numbers. The use of pie graphs and bar graphs are very efficient and clearer methods of communicating with numbers.

  • Thank you so much

  • Thank you.. it's an interesting course. and indeed it is amazing to tell stories about numbers

  • Thank you so much for the introduction to the course contents..It's been helpful.

  • @MostafaMamdouh Thank you..much appreciated

  • I totally agree with the idea about us (humans) living in a world of interconnected communities, and Climate Change is an issue that is affecting us in one way or another. That means, the issues about Climate Change affecting us are not the same; For instance, in economic terms we allow companies to mine our resources, farm our lands or log our forests. This...

  • UN SDG is the overarching sustainable development goal, and COP26 seems to focus particularly on Climate Action which also forms one of the SDG goals. In support of Climate action, I have also noted some developments in my country in relation to our government's efforts to address issues of environmental damage in the country.
    Environmental is an issue that...

  • I am inspired by what Sir David Attenborough said about being collective in our approach to solving problems. This is what we are doing and it is the right way to go. I mean the COP26 meeting, is a global call to action, everyone right around the world must work collaboratively to address Sustainability issues particularly, Climate and Environmental...

  • Environmental sustainability is a bigger issue now than it was some time ago, people are now more environmentally cautious. Looking some years back, the industrial revolution has taken its toll and in that way, such damages have been made, most probably because people are not aware of the impacts their activities are having on the environment.
    This leads to...

  • Thanks that's interesting and informative

  • That's a great presentation from the head of one of the leading universities around the world on issues of Climate Change and sustainability. I mean, to have such backings on such environmental issues is really encouraging and educational which goes along with the development of this course.
As a lead-up to hosting the COP26, it's amazing all the communities...

  • Ok.
I am Ricky from Papua New Guinea in the pacific. I have a background in public policy and I feel that it is necessary to take this course, CPO 26, and Environmental Sustainability is a big policy issue around the world.
It has a bigger impact on the way, we live as a global community, sharing the environment and the world around us.

  • It's great to be part of the learning team..

  • Noted thanks

  • Thanks that's informative

  • Thank you for the introduction and the insight..its interesting

  • That's an interesting talk on the effects of Climate Change Policy on Agriculture farming. I noted one particular point made by David that; "on one hand, they’re hearing that maybe they’ll be paid to plant more trees on their farm or conserve soil carbon in their soils. On the other hand, they’re being told that maybe they’ll be penalized in terms of the...
