  • @ElfaMatildeGaitánArmijos Blue Skies is an example of a contemporary approach to CSR where the business idea revolves around the idea of creating value locally - in this case for local farmers and for people involved with the processing of the fruits - as well as for consumers where ever they are based. Unlike many businesses, Blue Skies do not take the...

  • Welcome to the course @ElfaMatildeGaitánArmijos.

  • We are really pleased that you enjoyed the course @KarlaDueñas. Many thanks for the lovely feedback.

  • @KarlaDueñas Thanks for this clarification. Well, let's see. There are only a few days to go now.

  • @KarlaDueñas Reuters reported yesterday that the Mexican president is not going. However, perhaps someone else might represent Mexico? Reuters did say that Mexico may not send anyone because of pandemic restrictions and costs.

  • @KarlaDueñas Indeed - very important concepts!

  • @KarlaDueñas Great to hear about your good experience.

  • @KarlaDueñas I note that Mexico is unable to attend COP26.

  • Lovely that you are joining us from Mexico @KarlaDueñas. Welcome to the course!

  • @SuongNguyen Thanks very much for this very positive feedback. We are really pleased that you enjoyed the course.

  • @YaraHijazi 3 to 5 times more expensive? Oh dear. It is a shame to see this price tag, which won't encourage consumers to live sustainably.

  • Hello @IzziJones. Welcome to the course.

  • Pleased to meet you @GeneHemma. Welcome to the course!

  • Agree with these good points made, @RichardAttebery. It also depends on the context - we could argue that CSR-orientated decision-making, sustainable offerings etc. would lead to short-term results in terms of increased sales to those consumers who have the means and conviction to buy these products. Hopefully, COP26, the ever increasing signs of climate...

  • Very good points, @RichardAttebery. There are some of these schemes in the pipeline now - more of which later on the course - and we envisage that this movement will grow. However, 'convenience' is also top of many time-deprived consumers' lists and this is not always commensurate with putting what some people see as 'extra work' in.

  • @RichardAttebery Thank you for the important points that you are making here. We don't have full insight into their supply chain and once you start analysing things more closely, you realise how complicated it is - even with the best intentions - to operate as sustainably as possible. Sourcing locally is not always the answer - I have been informed that flying...

  • Hi @RichardAttebery and welcome to the course!

  • Thanks for sharing your clear analysis, @HanLu. Some really important points here.

  • Pleased to meet you @SuongNguyen and welcome to the course.

  • @XiLi That used to be the case in the UK, but things changed very quickly here once government decided to introduce charges on plastic bags six years ago.

  • @RuijingZhan True. Cutting right back on packaging for some food products may result in food waste, which equally is a big problem.

  • @YaraHijazi Yes, awareness is frequently an issue with third-party sustainability certification, which raises all sorts of questions as to its effectiveness.

  • @YaraHijazi Agree and this is an issue - being green is often expensive. What we need more generally is mainstreaming of green offerings - within reach for everyone and representing the easy option.

  • @YaraHijazi Thank you for the first point that you are making here. It really depends on the company's objective here. If they seek only to be able to charge a higher price and sell more, then agreed, that would be insincere. If, however, a premium price and expanded market-share follow from a genuine commitment to providing a sustainable offering, then that...

  • Pleased to meet you, @MollyCrank. We hope that you will find the course helpful preparation for your university course.

  • @YaraHijazi You're welcome. I think that your pre-understanding also applies. We can look at this from many perspectives.
