  • When a data subject gives consent for newsletter subscription for example, the webhosting who processes sends me an email. So I can keep a record of this.

  • As a sole trader, I am a data controller. The web hosting is a data processor for my business activity. I am a data subject for the web hosting.
As a tutor, I am a data controller for my tutees, data processor for the tutor agency, data subject also for the tutor agency. Tutor agency is a data controller for the tutees and the tutors.

  • My sole trader activity: I have a website selling products to customers who are in the EU. I am in the EU also. I also have a newsletter which I email to subscribers. The payment and address is processed by the web hosting or Paypal etc but I need the info to be able to send the orders out. My website keeps the list of my subscribers and their email address...

  • With the modern advances, especially in the technological world, the risks posed to data and privacy are also changing, or rather becoming greater. And so the ways to protect privacy and data needed to become more efficient and evolve with the times. Reforming the directive into a regulation would make the protection and the risk prevention stronger as all the...

  • To me privacy and data protection is about protecting you as a person, from anyone who may want to steal your details for their own benefit. It's about the right to remain anonymous, it's about the right to know what anyone knows about you and the right to be forgotten if we don't want them to keep our information. It's also about trust - that our information...

  • 1) Why is it important for you to know about the General Data Protection Regulation?
In my new job role I will be dealing with the GDPR and will need to understand what is appropriate when it comes to personal data handling.
As a sole trader, dealing with customers' orders and therefore personal data, it is also important that I show my potential customers...

  • I am interested in finding more out about GDPR for 2 reasons: 1) I own a business where I need to process my customers' personal data to be able to send them their order for example; 2) I have just started a new job which will deal with enquiries related to the data Protection Act and the GDPR.

  • Hi I am Sandrine. I am French but have lived in the UK for 24 years. My degree (many moons ago) is "Sciences du Langage" and one of favourite modules was psycholinguistics, which included language acquisition for children. I have taught French to Primary school children through play as a franchisee for La Jolie Ronde and for Le Club Français. I have recently...

  • I am exposed to projects on a regular basis to projects at work. Their success doesn't depend only on whether the outcome was satisfactorily delivered but also if they are within budget, on time and compliant to the scope. Delivery of the outcome is not enough.

  • To me this has confirmed what I believed already: morphology, etymology, semantics, etc are key to teaching new words, and this is valid for teaching the native laguage (English to English children...) but also MFL. What I had not considered before this course, was the idea of breadth vs depth of vocabulary,. Also, I had no idea that there were so many...

  • It seems to me that it is best to use several ways to teach new vocabulary rather than just one way. It exposes the learner much more, explores the various ways, various possibilities where you might come across a word, and addresses both the breadth and the depth of vocabulary.
I think I would more likely use a number of methods to teach new vocabulary, and...

  • When I read "thrasonical", I tried to divide it in smaller chunks, but I have found it a little more difficult to work out. Is it supposed to be thra-sonic-al or thras-oni-cal... Afterall it could relate to sound (sonic), a sound that be defined by "thra" - though I can't make out what "thra" would refer to as I cannot think of other words with this suffix. As...

  • I prefer to use the useful/important/difficult method to teach the words from a specific text. Useful and important words firstly and difficult ones would make a good point of discussion with the children so that they get to work out the meaning by being encouraged to discuss it, and try and work it out.

  • In fact I have just thought now that I would not want to teach the words that I don't know and understand myself. I would need to learn them first to fill confident that I could teach them too.

  • I guess that now that I have seen the words, I feel like I want to know what they mean ;-)
Seriously, I don't think I need to know or understand all the words at an equal level. Some are more specialised than others - or I expect that they are since I don't know they all. I would teach "sensitive" to the point that learners are able to define it and use it...

  • The key component that stuck with me the most and which I still use nowadays frequently when I am not sure about the meaning of a word is the word learning strategies, and in particular the use of morphology and etymology. I even use them for the English language when I come across a new word I have not heard before and I don't know the meaning of. (My native...

  • The concept of Tier 1, 2 & 3 words is really interesting, and it must be a good gauge of the quality of the vocabulary a child has acquired - as opposed to the quantity. I was most surprised by the fact that the breadth of vocabulary has an impact on self esteem.

  • Hi All,
I am currently looking for a different job and to change the direction of my career, work in schools in particular, as support staff or admin. One of the positions I have applied for mentioned becoming co-tutor of a form. So I asked my daughter about it, as she is a pupil in the school, and she mentioned the fact that on one of the day in form, they...

  • Hi Everyone,
I am Sandrine from Nottingham, England. I am starting this course much later than I wanted to due to a busy schedule at work and at home. I am currently a Documentation Controller working in a Project Office, and I am interested in finding out a little more about Project Management as it will help me in my job.

  • Brian feels much happier and encouraged by his friends and family as if he's leading the conversation this time. He's also reviving more support from his friends.
One of the barriers would be that his friends and family aren't moving or progressing quite as fast as he is or they may not have actually completely bought into the lifestyle changes and so he may...

  • Awareness on the impact of smoking on his health and perhaps warning signs have helped Brian to quit smoking. Perhaps that the friends he surrounds himself with who are non smokers helped also. Brian feels quite proud if his achievement.
What doesn't work so well for him is his friends mocking him and criticising him or mocking his appearance which is...

  • Very informative. I already feel a lot more confident about doing a talk / workshop at work next month a=when we will be raising awareness on cancer at work.
I have really enjoyed it and have learnt a lot already.

  • ran out of space again...

They should also maybe suggest a few other sources such as the Cancer Research Website, the NHS website or other government or more authoritative organisations' websites such as cancer charities instead of commercial websites.

  • Myths and facts included:
    - Eating superfoods can help treat and prevent cancer. This is a myth as there are no scientific proof that any of the superfoods on their own can help prevent cancer. However a healthy balanced diet can help reduce the risks. Superfoods are just a commercial thing.
    - Changing only some lifestyle factors is enough, and it doesn't...

  • Brian was on the defensive so he was probably feeling like he was being patronised, under pressure, and lectured - possibly even bullied. At least that's the way I would have felt if all aspects of my lifestyle were being brought up and scrutinized and criticised in this manner rather than just having a simple conversation about the facts.

    Brian's risk...

  • ran out of space... lol
    Health Messages:
    - Healthy lifestyle, including not smoking can help prevent cancer.
    - Knowing the key facts and risk factors of cancer can help us make the adjustments to our lifestyle that will help reduce the risk, and also can help us support our friends and family better.
    - More people survive cancer nowadays than they used...

  • I also thought that were being very negative about the situation for the most part and instead of offering support or just listening or asking for the facts, they were fuelling the anxiety that he must have already been feeling - especially the comment about surgery causing the cancer to spread!

    Myths and inaccurate facts:
    - Mobile phones and plastic...

  • I was quite surprised to see that 1 in 20 UK cancers are linked to weight... In fact I was very surprised to see how varied the types of cancers linked to weight are. I thought perhaps only cancers such as bowels or in this area would be linked to this.
Also I was shocked at the survival figures for some of the cancers compared to others. I hadn't realised...

  • Well I was also surprised at this one... I thought the fact that someone was overweight was it... I hadn't realised that it was not just a question of putting extra strain on your body, but also fat giving out chemicals. Also your comment Hannah about fat producing oestrogens actually fills another knowledge gap for me and not just on cancer but also...

  • Have recently taken on the role of Wellness Coordinator and feel like learning more about the subject of nutrition and wellbeing is a must for me! However if I am completely honest I have always been interested in the subject and I very much enjoy learning

  • Hi I am Wellness coordinator for the organisation I work for - although this not my actual job title. So this is the reason why I am interested in finding out more about it.

  • So now I'm glad I took Computer Science as a subject for my degree and masters.... At last it is becoming useful! Very interesting though, especially helpful in understanding what my child is learning at school.

  • Seems I not the only one... Catching the course late due to work and other learning commitments. I have always been interested in computing and in teaching and I am looking at going back to university to study for post compulsory education teaching. I am hoping to be able to offer several subjects as a teacher including French, English FL and ICT.

  • I looked into the history of email and I actually was quite surprised to see that it started more as an experiment in 1971 and then was first used by the Department of Defense rather than an actual business innovation in the beginning. I was also quite surprised to find out that Microsoft had bought one of the first web-based email service providers (hotmail)...

  • Email has had a big impact on both my personal and professional life. The impact has been both negative and positive depending on which point of view you take. On the professional point of view, it has been mainly positive. (i.e easier to to do a job search, easier and quicker to get /stay in touch with clients, etc). On the personal point of view, I don't...

  • Looking at the comments below, it's all been said already! :-) In particular staying one step ahead of customers' expectations and requirements on style, materials used, fibres, etc,... , sustainable clothes and processes,..

  • An example of disruptive innovation in terms of products and services are websites such as Funkypigeon or moonpig which not only offer greeting cards online as opposed to in a shop, but also personalised products... even more disruptive for mass produced paper products. Disruptive innovation in terms of business model and organisational innovation would be the...

  • I don't think that businesses nowadays have got a choice but to embrace and encourage innovation whether it be to do with the products, services, processes, organisation or business model. For example, let's say two businesses both offering the same product (straws) start up at the same time. They have similar sales turnover and similar growth for the first 3...

  • I would define innovation within a business environment as progress and continuous improvement/development. I don't think that a business needs to create and design something totally new, that does not exist in order to consider itself as an innovating type of business. I think that if an idea can prolong the "market life" of a product that already exists or...

  • Hi there! I've joined M&S as a temp administrator in the facilities management HO. The course looked as though it would fit in with and complement the other courses I am currently studying

  • Hi everyone,
I'm an administrator and i have just completed a course to do with Business Admin, but as I am "slightly" on the obsessed side when it comes to learning, I just had to start a new course, which sounded more fun than Business Admin! I enjoy many games on my phone and other platforms and I like to know about the technical side of things so this...

  • Hi All,
I'm on the Windows team. I don't particularly dislike or like it apart from when it struggles with speed,... I often use several applications at once (like Word, Excel, Publisher, Photoshop and Chrome) and well,... I'm probably asking for too much! Afterall it's about 6 years old, so it's probably only old age! :-)
