Activity

  • Use and note all your senses..

  • She wanted revenge for her cousin. He'd broken her cousin's heart. A single shot. Unknowingly stepping between body and bullet, his girlfriend now bled at his feet.

(3 made up facts and 1 made up fiction.)

  • One fact and four fiction.

He loves her. He sent her flowers, candy, and jewelry. Her loser boyfriend didn't care. They'll declare her dead next week. No one else will ever know she's still alive.

  • Hi! I'm Theresa. I enjoy writing. I have a hard time finishing stories. Life happened, I stopped writing for awhile. Now I'm trying to get back into it and improve. Nice to meet you. :).

  • Hi. I'm Theresa. I dabble in creative writing. I am hoping to gain skills by taking this course. I was surprised to find how much I liked the first "Save the Cat," and I know I'll never stop learning. Fine with me :).

My favorite movie/television writer, hands down, is Coleman Luck, who wrote the Blood and Wine, and the Manon movies for the original...

  • Thank you. I'm looking forward to this course :) .

  • Nicci, you don't have to read/answer every post. It would be lovely, yes, but I don't know anyone who has that amount of time. I don't, right now. There's always a huge influx of posts at the beginning of a class anyway. I got my masters online, and have taken a few other short courses like this one, not from Future Learn, and that's what I've been told...

  • I would rather read and study the play before I see it performed and/or discussed. One of my favorite books is The Priceless Gift by Cornelius Hirschberg. He was a major Shakespeare fan. In the literature section, which covers Shakespeare and others, he says he prefers to read the play at least once first, so that he understands what is happening even if he...

  • But shorter isn't always better. It depends on what you want to focus on out of the play. You may have to go through several versions with their pros and cons to realize/begin to realize what that is.

  • I am trying to remember - I think it was in the book on screenwriting named "Save the Cat," which I don't seem to have in the room with me, where it was explained that any script is reworked the same way today, in films and television as well as stage. What you see is almost always not what was originally written.

  • Thank you. I put it on my wishlist. About a week ago, I managed to get an abscessed tooth. Dr. put me on a course of amoxicilian, and I'm waiting to find out how much out of pocket fixing/pulling it will cost me on Thursday. So money's just a bit tight at the moment :).

  • Hi everyone :)

I live in Carl Junction, MO, only a few miles from where Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Oklahoma meet. I enjoy history, but don't know much about British history. I have a precious sweet Yorkie girl named Heidi. I also teach kindergartners on Sunday mornings, and am librarian of the local Choral Society. Also like to write and sing and...

  • I'm not sure whether I can completely agree with Brian and David right now. Maybe I'll learn more here to make me agree with them. Some of this came from the Roman Empire. Maybe you are seeing the British as polishing what Rome gave them, or are you considering Rome to be part of the British Empire?

I really know very very little about the Empire, one...

  • Hello everyone :)

I enjoy history, but I don't know much about English history and how England has helped shape the United States. Looking forward to learning quite a bit. Nice to meet everyone.

  • Some sour grapes here - not the list or this class, but MSSU's library. I graduated from there in 1993, and keep a community library card, $25 a year. I'm usually over there on Monday nights for Choral Society, and the library is invaluable for my interests. Unfortunately, anything that is an ebook, I can't touch. Seems only current students and faculty are...

  • Thank you :). There are so many versions it's nice to have a single one to refer to that everyone can have.

I have the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, edited by Clark and Wright. It's my second set. I goofed years ago - was in a hurry and grabbed the wrong sack to drop off in Goodwill's donation box before I went to church. Wasn't until much later...

  • I don't remember reading Hamlet until after my first job, at the city library. I came across the book "The Priceless Gift" by Cornelius Hirschberg. He had a strong love for Shakespeare, and I wanted more than Romeo and Juliet, which was the go-to play when I was in high school. So I gorged on Hamlet and went on from there to MacBeth [which Mom had performed...

  • I couldn't get the intro video to work, and I definitely appreciate the transcript. Video on a dial-up connection often doesn't work that well.

  • Good morning :). I enjoy Shakespeare, especially Hamlet and MacBeth. I have watched a summary version of MacBeth, put on by MSSU's Theater Department, but for any of the other plays I've had to rely on DVDs or television.

Each production has its good and bad points. Unfortunately, the only one I could not make it all the way through was Kevin Branagh's...

  • Wow. Ian McKellen as Hamlet. I had no idea he'd done Hamlet. Must have been fascinating. Would love to have seen that. I was in America and not out of diapers yet , so you're not alone, young lady <grin>.
