Fabiane Debenetti

I'm Fabi, I've been teaching English for a long time and I'm here to learn with each one of you :)
I've got my own school now and I believe it's essential to keep improving our new language.

Location Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul, Carlos Barbosa city

Activity

  • I was in London with a group of students last January. We stayed just 3 weeks studying general English. I travelled by an agency which did a poor job, I had some problems and thanks the language centre there we could solve them. Next time I'd like to go by myself.

  • I'd prepare myself very well to the interview, with all the possible materials in my hands and giving them all information I could. Talk about the reality, costs, Paris and Italy.

  • They really cared about her, giving all the support she needed.

  • Thanks for all.

  • UK, always!

  • Useful information. Thanks.

  • Maybe I'm asking a kind os stupid question, but: is there any TEF online course? I was searching here and I found some, but I'm in doubt whether I'm looking at the right course. Could someone, please, help me?! Thanks. https://bridge.edu/tefl/online-tefl-certification

  • As our school uses the material of Oxford and Cambridge Universities, I know how good they are. The respect these two institutions have is undoubted. As a result, students would like to study in places like that, they are preparing themselves to make part of one of the best univerities in the world.

  • Global Citizen: when the individual is ready to explore the diversities of the world, capable to live in the society as a member who should respect the others and follow some rules and sharing their knowledge and experiences.

  • The first reason in interesting, but thei last one is the best. I got impressed. That's really a good reason to study there.
The time and the price also impressed me. I thought it was very expensive to study in The UK.

  • I'm a teacher and what I want the most is my CELTA certificate, in England. Why there? Because I will be able to get invoved with the language 100% of the time, meet people from all over the world and because it's my favourite place to be.

  • I went to London 4 times, that's my favourite city in the world. I love British culture, The Queen, the underground, the food, the parks, the building, The Phantom of the Opera in Her Majesty's Theatre, the streets and monuments, Buckingham Palace, Windors Castle, Oxford and Cambridge cities, everything. I can't forget the British accent, I love it, all of them.

  • I'm a teacher and an English Language Centre coordinator. My role is to help teachers in their classes productions, support students, talk to parents, etc.. In January of this year (2019) I went to London with a group of students. We stayed there for 3 weeks, but I went through an agency. Next time I'd like to do the all job by myself, as I know London quite...

  • I usually take notes using a pen and a notebook I have. That's my 'courses notebook'. kkkk.

  • Thanks for one more opportunity to learn with you!

Hi! I'm Fabiane, Brazilian and English teacher. I'm curious. Everything which involves UK enchants me.

  • Fabiane Debenetti made a comment

You rock, guys! Thanks a lot.

  • Don't worry, that's not a problem. It happens. Thank you a lot for everything.

  • I reckon there is not another appropriate language than English to be used in cases like that.

  • I'm not surprise because I've chosen the same options. Another language is not exactly replace English, in my opinion, although they are getting more and more spoken sround the world (Chinese and Spanish, for example).

  • We can clearly see that Spanish is becoming more and more popular. Its songs and TV series are very good.

  • To be a good teacher depends on each person and their qualifications and language study. I speak Portuguese as in my country this is the oficial language, but I'm not able to teach it.

  • In my opinion each person has their value, I'm Brazilian and my students like having people from another country in the class. They study to be able to communicate with everybody, but they really enjoy when this conversation is with a native speaker. And so do I.

  • Which surprised me the most was the last one, but after reading it better, I partly agree with that. In other words, native speakers can learn with non native speakers.

  • Could you, please, tell us the name of this club? Could I participate too? Thanks.

  • I love British English the most.

  • Excellent thoughts!

  • It helps me to understand my own errors. Thank you.

  • Me too.

  • Native people should be proud that there are many non native speaking English. I see it as a wonderful point. We study the language rules, so many of us speak great English. I say that I understand and prefer English language than my mother one.

  • I agree with you.

  • Does anyone think that English can be killed too, not just be the killer? I mean, there are many people around the world speaking English and it is a natural process to create new words. How acceptable is it?is it a question of culture, a vice of the language? What do you think? That's just one curiosity.

  • @DENISECIPULLOKUNIOSHI, that's what I wrote to @basiliasantiago, our colleague here. Brazil is not prepared to receive people who speak English. Very sad for us.

  • It's interesting what you are saying @BasiliaSantiago. I'm from the South of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul. I think this is the state where the Brazilians most study English. There are a lot of tourist attractions in our country and they receive many people from around the world whose language is English and we are not totally ready to receive them. There is a...

  • I use English at work because I'm an English teacher, but I can see my students want to learn it because they need better job opportunities and here in Brazil it is extremely important to know how to communicate in this language. There are many multinacional companies which pay a good salary for those who can speak fluent English. There are, also, many people...

  • She is right. There are not many difficult rules in English grammar as we have in other languages.

  • I understand that there are many accents around the world and it is interesting to notice how a word can be said in different ones.

  • I teach English and I've been learning other languages, like Italian and French. I love the fact we can compare some similar or equal words and put ourselves in the place of the students. Sometimes it's hard to learn a foreign language.

  • @MurielGasser for sure, it will :)

  • Fabiane Debenetti made a comment

I love teaching using the board, I recognize I need to use more technology in class. Thank you, my colleagues and tutors, for being so kind sharing many useful tools.

  • So will I.

  • It has been a great course, thanks!

  • British Council online material is always great, youtube is useful. Pinterest, I use it a lot too.
    https://www.eslgamesplus.com/

  • Thank you so much!

  • @MurielGasser thank you, dear.

  • Thank you so much, boys.

  • I consider this material essential for e-tutors, I'm not one of them, but I would like to say thank you for sharing and let me know a bit of this kind of job.

  • I've never taught online, but it might be different. I can't explain...I needed to learn how to do that. I think we have pros and cons.

  • @yoshikonishina thank you!!!

  • Hi @yoshikonishina What kind of course is this one (CELT-S)? Is it the same as CELTA? Thanks.

  • I particularly ike Future Learn because apart of learning new things, I'm practicing my English all the time. Although the course is free, we can have our international certificate. I like the platform because it is easy and understandable, better than many others I've already used.

  • Thanks for your lovely contribution!

  • I agree with you, specially in the part of native speakers. We are not native, but we have been studying hard about English grammar and use of language. We are able to teach it because we make a great effort to do that.

  • I agree with the part he said you can exchange language and also culture in an online course. That's what we are doing here. It's easier to expose your comments and writing ideas. He made me think that things online are really good, it all depends on how you use them.

  • For adults I think it's totally fine to learn laguages online, but kids demand physical material. And I think, it also depends on what kind of learner you are, some people really need the presence of the teacher while the others don't like being in the middle of the others and are shy exposing themselves.

  • People are working hard and too tired to leave home to study, than they prefer to have online classes in the comfort of their home. Particularly, I love having a teacher in front of me. But....I'm studying online by myself kkk.

  • Knowing teaching methods all around the world help us to recreate our classes. I'm sure I'm going to ejoy week 3.

  • Fabiane Debenetti made a comment

I'm happy just to listen and to know about TBLT and CLIL. I've never listened about that before.

  • Fabiane Debenetti made a comment

I watched the second one. I've never worked with CLIL, but it is challenging and interesting. I didn't see learners worried or not understanding the topic. The teacher did a great job, introducing and teaching the vocabulary efficiently. The speed he was using was also very good. I would like to enjoy a class like that.

  • We can also print it, cut it down and they organize the story.

  • I enjoy working with pictures, there is one thing I particularly love: once you have a picture, let's imagine a car, full og luggage, going to...somewhere; than I like asking the students to create how many questions is possible using this pic. Eg: Who is in the car?, Where is he/she going?, Is he/she alone? What does he/she have in the luggage? etc.... I...

  • The man gets home from work and finds a letter with some good news on the table, he might have received back some money he had borrowed to an old friend some years ago. He got so happy that he celebrated drinking good wine and having the most delicious food ever, ah...and listening to his favourite song. Suddenly he woke up frustrated, it was a great dream.

  • I always prepare my classes trying to use these four abilities: listening, writing, reading and speaking; not exactly in this order. At the end I like contextualizing, it means, to transform everything into their real life.

  • I will answer the question before watching the video, I imagine than the naturalistic is when the person is inserted in the atmosphere naturaly, or because of a trip, new work, etc... And the classroom lerning when the person is studying it. The best one? Both are very rich, the naturalistic has the culture thing very strong and in the learning one students...

  • Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the room without people inside it, but I can tell you we have a computer, internet acess, one big table for 8 students each class. It is comfortable and beautiful. I teach in a private English Language School.

  • Some details call my attention, kids are all well dressed, but no shoes, that's culture; interesting. The class was amazing, I liked the idea of sitting down with the teacher and ask her what she could do different, how comfortable she felt about it. The classroom was a very simple place, but 'the garden' gave a colorful life there. And the last conversation...

  • That's sadly true.

  • In my country people say we are JUST teachers. Unfortunately and sadly, in general, we do not have the right recognition. We are much more than ordinary teachers, many times we are psychologists: students come to us to talk because we are the only ones who are listening to them. Specially in class, our role should create an environment where learners enjoy...

  • If you teach for many different people around all over the world, you should be careful and attentive to their culture, religion, points of view, etc... As a student in a language centre in London in last January I could see that, because of the social medias, yeah, people keep in touch and help each other in class.

  • @RizaXhaferi For sure!

  • @JoDixon Thanks!!!!

  • In my opinion all of us have an important role in the class. The teacher should monitor students, never give them all the asnwers, they need to think and create. And we have to believe they can do it. Work in pairs, work in groups, help each other...that's a great atmosphere.

  • As I work in a language centre, we have the opportunity to have not more than 8 learners per group, according to their ages and English language level. Everybody, or at least most of them, are there because they are interested in learning, we are lucky guys in that point.

  • Thank you!

  • I voted in effective teaching because we do have students who are not motivated in class, but maybe we can be their motivation.

  • There are students who always need to translate what they are learning. That can be a barrier. Many times in English what you want to say there's not an apropriate translation in my mother language, Portuguese.

  • Teach - practice (many times is necessary) - check - contextualize
    That's the way I teach.

  • I'd associate it with Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. That's the first thing which comes in my mind.

  • Phrasal verbs, the use of the article THE (even better, when we don't use it) and adverbs. Once in England the teacher asked us to create a list with phrasal verbs using the alphabet letters. It was a great challendge, but we got it.

  • A- Could you, please, pass me the sugar?
    B- Joana has it.
So, we don't know if the person 'A' will get it or no.

  • Yeah...I've just posted something and I didn't remember this detail. The same word has a different meaning from region to region.

  • For me, meaning is...for example, when a person speaks a message, a picture comes into my mind, if I don't understand the meaning of an important word in a sentence (because many times we are able to understand the context, that's totally fine not to know that specific vocabulary), I won't be able to, maybe, keep talking to the person. I would change the...

  • I think the ability of learning a language makes part of our human experiences living with the others. We reproduce what we listen to, we learn about that people and culture. And that's also what we can learn, apart of the language, the culture.

  • I make these words my own.

  • As an English teacher and a Portuguese mother language person, I need to be careful with the way I communicate to my students, otherwise they won't understand me. I need to dose the use of these 2 languages, I mean, with beginers. After that they will be able to communicate to each other and with me just in English, that's the language they are learning. They...

  • What's language? It's how people comunicate to each other, expressing thoughts, opinions... How do we acquire language? Listening and producing it; imitating, copying...The factors which affetc language learning are: culture, accent, intonation... Don't know if I'm right in any of these ideas. You see, as an English teacher for so many years I could have had a...

  • Hello, I'm Fabi. I'm here because I would like to improve my teaching English ability. I consider each student as one, with their personality, motivation, tastes and interests and I might learn more and more about how to deal with them, considering we have the same purpose, the study of English Language.

  • Hi people! I have been teaching English for 12 years and I'm always here on future learn exactly to learn more. Good to see all of you here as well!

  • As I love pronunciation and most of the students in my school are children, I need to tell you that I've learnt a lot and, for sure, I'll use all of these techniques in my classroom and share them with my colleagues. Thank you!

  • We can also use the internet to produce some sounds and we can choose 'similar' ones and they match the sounds. Example: door and horse.

  • I use the International Phonetic Alphabet and I dictate a word, students might write it using the sounds. Compare words with similar sounds it's also interesting and challenging. Those are 2 of my ideas.

  • With letters games, in general. Like: puzzles, wood letters, a pencil and a piece of paper, books....Everything which can help them to (re)create something.

  • Thank you all!

  • I totally agree with you.

  • That's wonderful, we can do it with any kind of vocabulary. And she used real world using their names at the end. For sure, I will do it.

  • Interesting and challenging. Loved it.

  • As a fan of phonemes things I love teaching them and I think I can pass this feeling to them and they simply love it. I tell them they can be independent learning how to say a word by themselves. Of course, I'm talking about teens, for kids I organize activities like: take some words or pictures and separate them according to the vowel sound, for example; the...

  • In fact I use many kinds of materials: flashcards, internet things, we make posters together, songs, etc...

  • Using games with different words and paying attention specially to the vowel sounds.

  • I've been studying all the phonemes. The most difficult for me is the difference between: moTHer and THumb sound, for example.
