  • Refusing to fear Cancer
Cancer can be stopped. Over the past few years, cancer medication has evolved leaps and bounds from places we never even thought was possible; new approaches to tame the immune system in the fight against cancer are getting us closer to a future where cancer becomes a curable disease. Personalized vaccines, cell therapy, gene editing...

  • New approaches to tame the immune system in the fight against cancer are getting us closer to a future where cancer becomes a curable disease. Personalized vaccines, cell therapy, gene editing and microbiome treatments are all fantastic treatment options that we have access to and I believe a number more will be discovered in years to come.

  • Guadecitabine, a novel experimental drug – can reverse a cancer’s resistance to immunotherapy. Patients expected to die after exhausting all treatment options survived much longer, they found that the combination of pembrolizumab, an immunotherapy drug and guadecitabine, a next-generation DNA hypomethylating agent, halted the advance of cancer in more than a...

This is extremely useful, thank you!

  • National Cancer Institute:
How transplants may be the only way to save those with diseases such as liver/pancreatic cancer

The information seems relatively reliable however I believe some quotes and or figures have been exaggerated in order to back up the writers argument.

Well I assume the article was for the average person and to bring awareness to...

  • I knew about the accidental discovery through nitrogen mustard gas and how that it is not used today due to its dangerous chemical effects upon humans. However, its interesting to learn how scientists have altered its chemical makeup to allow for safe usage - its really interesting and i'll probably research it more in my own time!

  • I would use online materials such as: Ted Talks, Journals, a range of news article websites in order to find possible links to books or other mooc's I could complete

  • Cancer is extremely difficult to treat due to a multitude of reasons, cancer itself is constantly changing and evolving hence there is no one cures all drug; additionally, there are also a range of side effects as chemotherapy kills healthy cells.

When developing new drugs scientists have to be aware of the possible side effects their medication may cause...

  • Hello, my name is Ben and I am doing this course in order to further my knowledge of cancer medicines because I find it genuinely interesting.

  • Its so interesting to see how scientists can use something like symbioses to combat disease!

  • Upon testing scientists may have realised that mitochondria must have its own DNA as it produces enzymes for aerobic respiration and has its own DNA.

The Microbes will obtain shelter from outside factors that may affect them while also getting a sustainable environment they can efficiently work within.

Over time, the bacteria may reproduce to a point...

  • Being a chemistry and biology student I still found this hard to grasp as I have not yet gone over this in class, however it did provide me with effective knowledge that I can apply at a later date

  • 1. Oxygen during aerobic respiration and photosynthesis, water for plants during specific stages such as LDR and possibly sustainable conditions that are relatively unchanging

    2. DNA replication such as mitosis / meiosis as it involves the breaking down complex molecules with energy

    3. Deep sea environments, Volcanic areas and maybe at very high altitudes ?

  • Hey, I'm Ben. I want to further expand upon my biological knowledge and get a better understanding of how the brain works inside biology

  • I've always been interested in learning about the brain and how it links to different areas of science, so I thought I'd do this to get a further understanding of it

When I should be skimming and when I should be scanning and the importance of choosing the correct one for the right circumstance

  • Same here.

  • It is

  • Very Useful

    Thanks for the help.

  • The video showed me there's a multitude of ways to do reseach.

  • Benjamin B made a comment

So far, everything has been very useful

  • Same here, I want to find a solution to every problem where possible :)

  • Same here, I want to extend my knowledge when possible

  • Thank you
