Hi!!! My name is Patrick Ken Kalonde, I am a PhD student registered at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Currently, I am based in Malawi where am studying the challenge of plastic pollution. Looking forward to learning about HPC and how it can help to improve my work

This is very interesting. I am just curious. Has this ever been utilized at mapping or detecting flash flooding?
-
So interesting. I think that such tools are also much more needed in the developing world. Especially in Malawi, I remember once in my community, we were devastated by flash flooding. Obviously, we have extreme precipitation which our drainage system could not handle, but the question that I always ask is, arent there any opportunities for us to be able to use...

Great insights and thought-provoking visualizations. I am particularly interested in the section of the video where we saw an animation of clouds overlaid with contours of pressure. How were such maps created? How was the data from Copernicus translated into such insights? and lastly, what is the minimum unit which we can estimate precipitation, or in other...

Very interesting insights about Air pollution. Yes indeed, we often think about air quality in terms of the presence of a chimney from which harmful gases diffuse. The video has also emphasized an important point: "...combining satellite and non-satellite data using computer models, we can predict have the ability to understand the air quality parameters at...

Great presentation Dr. Ben Loveday. Using satellites to monitor water quality parameters seems to be interesting. It made me think about the Great Lakes of Africa, and a recent newspaper article that was published on Lake Malawi. The article indicated that Lake Malawi is turning green. A phenomenon which they said is associated with Algae bloom. I assume that...

You have raised very important points. I will comment on the issue regarding the overrepresentation of some parts of the world. I come from Southern Africa and I have volunteered several times with Youth Mappers to generate data on building footprint. For every record that was generated by us, an experienced mapper was supposed to validate and I hope that this...

It is evedence that having a clear research question particularly before doing literature review helps you to navigate on whether or not some questions have been addressed yet or not. For example, this can help one to get a picture about how the question under consideration can bee addressed i.e. through means of Randomised Control Trials. This one can help...

Right out of college I co-founded a youth organization in my community. Disposal of waste is part of the daily life; the solution which we suggested is to turn organic waste for urban agriculture. And also to promote sorting of plastics right in the homes. I strongly believe what we have been doing will influence policy so that government will take it to scale.

@JibrinadoAbubakar , I agree with you that there might be an alternative hypothesis that people might have a strong knowledge base to support the idea of disposing waste in the river.
