I have written a couple of short movie scripts. I am willing to develop those stories into appealing short films by myself and/or with the collaborative efforts of fellow passionate filmmakers.

  • The story background for a particular scene will influence the screen direction majorly, as there is no set pattern for such scene picturization. But yes, in general, it can look like this –
    (1) Z-axis movement – character coming towards camera showing character’s determination/focus/situation
    (2) 180-degree X-axis shot of the main character from the side,...

  • Hello All
Attempted a single sequence shot (though edited to remove irrelevant bits) using different camera angles (1) Moving camera sideways (2) Moving whole camera up and down (3) Track in and track out (4) Tilting camera up and down (5) Moving camera from Long shot to close up transition.

Please feel free to share your thought process....

  • Hello Tom & All - A clip link below, using 5 shots shooting pattern. (1) A unique starting shot (2) a Medium shot doing an activity (3) a Long shot showing activity+individual (4) Long/close activity+individual continue (5) Outcome/output/benefit of the activity.
    Please share your thought process.

  • Hello All - Filming a simple sequence to follow continuity. B Roll shots included.

  • An amateurish and raw filming attempt using (A) different angles and positions i.e. from the front, side, three-quarter shot, medium to long shot, close-ups, high/low angle shot (B) different frames i.e. rule of third, unbalanced, relevant background.

A light theme is used to string different shots together and tried using the continuity rule. Missed minor...

  • Nicely explained, the linkage with your own movie provides more relevant learning.

  • Thanks, an effective technique.

  • Very nice. Thanks for linking the learning with your short film, as that provides help visualizing it practically.

  • Thanks, Emma for asking this.
Hello Tom - Does that mean the master shot is a complete single sequence, shot at one go? In that way, it will be a prime shot used in final editing, and the rest B-roll/extra shots will be inserted in between for fine-tuning. Or is it another way around.

  • It is supposed to be a revolutionary concept, taking away the single-shot limitations. And paving the way to compile (edit) perfect shots (frame by frame), making the movie interesting for the audience.

  • Hello - Not able to watch the movie, a message appears when clicking the first clip "Sorry, You are not registered with BFI Screenonline.".

  • Thanks, the good learning, and various new and unique tips/points. Your explanation linking with your short shooting is quite useful, nice breakdown of different scenes with its relevancy. Thanks.

  • A shot holding camera still merely for 10-15 seconds. Need to admit hands are shaky. Elephants on the chessboard are laughing as they are standing rock solid.

Thanks for taking us to real larger-than-life movie shooting world.

  • Thanks, nice summary. Scene sequencing (in the script) can be referenced somewhere, so editing remains less tricky to follow the continuity principle.

  • Hello - Still images can be used effectively in between of running shots or it will be quite noticeable.

  • Hi, Good to have that spirit. Out of curiosity and to pull more motivation please - Are you working on a full-length films or short films. Are you managing all aspects on your own (i.e. direction, edit..).

  • Hello - Shot a few clips (Nature only at this stage) using Wide, medium, and close angles (high and low angles). Used editing software to string these clips together.

  • Hi Tom - Additional query, the video can be uploaded in the youtube channel/account, and the link can be shared. Is Padelt provides some different/additional feature.

  • A query around Padlet, please. I did edit video clip using HitFilm, and exported as Hitfilm project and MP4. Padlet is not picking up either of the formats. Any tip please.

    Good, Thanks

  • Nice

  • Nice checklist. Now by default, the mind will be at work while watching the movie itself :)

  • Around 39-45 different shots from different angles.

  • Examples of different shots helped relate it with a running sequence.

  • Hello, Fellow Filmmakers/Aspiring filmmakers,
I live in West London, UK for the last 15 years. I have written a few short movie scripts (containing different social messages). I could not find someone (yet, to collaborate with) to develop these scripts into effective short films.
Starting this course to further enhance my skill set and with a wish that...
