  • Thank you for your comment. On reflection regarding the mother's depression possible started with a single thought (as it were) Both parents serviced in forces in World War Two. Father flew Lancaster Bombers and completed two tours of duty, Mother was a sergeant in the British Air Force. A stressful time. Today there is a lot more help from the effects of...

  • Having listened to this Mindfulness video the effect of depression was truly heard within being, this is the first time I've spoken about this. My mother suffered terrible depression for years, my brother and myself in our teenage years silently blocked all what was going on out of our minds, buried it.
Mother went from one doctor to another to find relief...

  • Thank you for an enlighten week to explore and experience new moments.
This week something came across the mind, not sure what, something read from the script made me feel raw inside the mind having touch on a thought!! Perhaps a well held idea that wasn't useful. Well what ever it was has disappeared and feel very happy as have let go and not worry about...

  • Enjoyed the Comma. It is very easy to forget how simple and peaceful life should be. To be free to move into the next activity and nothing pressing on mind, sensations or any other activity the mind has produced.

  • Have practiced Mindfulness courses before, but what's apparent if one can keep up the practice and not say 'not now' and just move on yet again, is just not wanting to know. However experience is showing what was learnt/experienced in the past is just old knowledge. The present moment is full, rich and rewarding one could say deeper. It does take time and...

  • Hello everyone. I'm looking forward to participating in this Mindful course, having read through the comments from others says we need group support no matter where we live in the world as everyone is striving for peace of mind and happiness for others.

  • Yes, the mind was so clear and not attached to anything, weightless, clear vision, in another realm as it were. Can't fake it, it just happened, the quality of the experience is very clear right now, as mentioned weightless.

  • Sadly not always mindful however times when decisions had to be made, have learn't 'decision made, leave it alone.' Not to allow discussion to run randomly through the mind, should I have or is this the right one etc. etc If left alone things work out well, it's like the 'powers that be' get on with the job.
The ethic decision works too, hadn't used this...

  • Must remember!!!!!! a short video with a long lasting important message

  • Yes i do savour moments ( although hadn't used those words ) especially walking in the morning, school children biking to school, folk with their dogs, walking through 'stand of trees', pine cones, autumn leaves in fact a carpets of autumn leaves is magical. This my special time

  • The Back Draft was an excellent way to describe what happens, something that's noticed and usually brushed off. Yet again, we all have the system within ourselves, now having been pointed out a blossoming must grow within, Freedom ......

  • Now days I turn out to the person in front of me by listening to what is being said, however this has not always be the 'case'. Childhood was difficult for my brother and myself, both parents were in military service. In those days the attitude was 'the stuff upper lip' i.e. just get on with it in civilian life. However today there is plenty of information...

  • Self compassion is of interest, sometimes just slip up especially when things go missing the item having been in hand not long ago .......

  • More confident and happier within myself. Understanding myself helps understanding those persons in front of me.
    A good worth while week
    Thank you

  • The first thing that came to mind listen to this video ' Well yes! it's time to grow up' and be responsible with our actions and the way of speaking to others, Well am practicing being assertive.

  • I have of late greeted people as if for the first and will continue to do so. There is one particular person in the family that is difficult and has caused trouble with other members and myself. This will take time and perseverance. I know this approach is the right way and there is nothing I can do to alter the situation other than being steadfast and...

  • Madeline Dennison made a comment

Yes: All things to all people!! There is a sound that often lurks at the back of my mind ... got to do this, got to do this .... Now having been given a new sound that can be recognized with a detached meaning. So easy and simple just reflecting on it brings a freedom.
    Thank you Craig

  • Clutter free is good with space not just the clutter around us but have noticed the mind is more at rest also. Something I have bought into the home of late are green house plants, the quiet green beauty of stillness brings peace, stability to the family. Its very subtle but it works.

  • Looking back at my parenting skills there wasn't always full attention to members in the family at the time.. However both children have grown up to be fine upstanding members of the community with loving families and beautiful minded children. There will always be building blocks not quiet right, but that's how it is

  • Enjoyed this practice, it was quite easy to transition from 'me' thoughts to bring another person to the front of mind. If its this easy and comfortable to switch over WHY don't I practice more often during the day. Sometimes before dropping off to sleep at night I do bring someone in need to mind, say a prayer or wish good health upon them, nine times out...

  • Yes' I understand bringing compassion towards others, there's an outward flow within one's self to the person in front, well being towards that person and freedom within one's self. Good all round .... 'what goes round come round.'

  • Understanding a friend who has had many major surgical procedures over the years and I've listened not thinking much about, like Oh! well. Two days ago I actually listened to what he was saying and through the listening there was total understanding how this procedure took him to the edge of his mind. I had to apologizes for not understanding before when I...

  • Excellent video week one on YouTube Thank you
Have enjoyed this week, its surprising when one is paying attention or being Mindful things get done, Have finished this week most pleasing, having sincerely put an effect to be true to myself with attention ..... so step by step

  • Well, you have a choice give it a go!! From experience its not always easy to remember. Good luck

  • What has high lightened this past week is more awareness especially when walking each morning. Listening, particularly on the phone, not having mind chirp on certainly not paying too much attention on whats being said. I hope with the effort/practice done this week it will stay a useful companion to remember.
Have also made time to stop, pause. Sometimes I...

  • Well, I'll be more mindful next time thank you Andy, will watch. However, perhaps as the course is suggesting we are so wrapped up with the inner workings of our own mind that nothing can penetrate. So yes well spotted, we must love our name/thoughts very much otherwise we wouldn't hang onto them.

  • Very good advice and yes, do practice being mindful with devices, it could send one's head spinning

  • Yes one can't always express in words or have the vocabulary but, whats been noticed is if being sincere the right words do come, but need to start off with a few words first, like stepping stones. Its appears words come from behind words, when finished one wonders where did that come from and a satisfaction in being these words were the right words for that...

  • Well that warmed the heart, reading through this exercise, noticed the attention wondered off demonstrating exactly what was being taught not reading the words and taking them in with whole attention.
Being introduced to a new person is a good example for me and .... not remembering their name and may have to ask yet again. This is telling me about poor...

  • Interestingly, have noticed the few 'times' (shamefully) I have listened with full attention becoming very still in mind and body, a merging takes place with the person in front of one, its like there is no me and you. No ideas, no criticism, no embarrassment, just listening. This has bought at times nothing to say, nothing comes to mind and its very...

  • On days when Mindfulness has been practiced one becomes aware of happiness, lightness in mind and tasks become easier to work through.
    More constant practice required.

  • Don't see a problem in practicing Mindfulness, the challenge is to keep up these practices through one's life

  • Very rewarding practice, must give myself permission to stop, pause more. Change the wording in mind and actually listen, be disciplined enough to carry this 'activity' through.

  • Looking forward to the course ...... so here goes!!

  • Well done you. It will became second nature preparing fresh food and eventually the other will start to become tasteless and you won’t feel satisfied. I find that some ‘take-away’ food, as it were’ never hits the mark so we don’t waste the money as it ends up being thrown out.

  • Thank you Barbara However I don’t have diabetes It’s very hot here with high humidity

  • Thank you for generous time and knowledge. Haven't used Buckwheat for a long time, will certainly change that!!!

  • I did enjoy this course persevering through a maize wonderment on the ins and outs of Super-foods. A sense of relief having read the last lecture, no need to go with the status quo feeling good about one'self dieting on Super-foods only. So now, using the mind to discriminate for one's self what suits and has always suited and not be blindsided.

  • Hello Margaret
Friends who use lentils and beans a lot do soak the beans over night. If that helps, just carry on with what suits you.

  • What a comprehensive document, a lot to take on board in one reading.
People do soak lentils over night and don't add salt to the boiling because it turns lentils and dried beans hard. Don't use these lentils and beans much, interesting not the first idea for super that comes to mind

  • Excellent video, have read too much Vitamin A can be deleterious to one's health also nutmeg!, not sure where that information came but do use it sparingly (just in case). One thing, I do drink a lot more water these days because often feel thirsty despite the many glassfuls drunk

  • From observation with those around me, it appears that not everyone is interested their food intake or nutritional value, if pushed for time collect a take-away. Anything that stops the hunger pain fast. Its a vicious circle, tired from a day's work, convenient to buy a take-way. Everyone is busy in society today, so no wonder there are a lot of health...

  • Never had the word 'fruit powders' in my vocabulary!! Unless I'm living in a dream world completely removed from this technology, to use an engineered product, that comes with a caution!! Perhaps commercial gain is behind this, sounds very cynical on my part however if it's distributed to countries in need of good quality food in the purest form, then that...

  • The supermarkets and local fruit stalls have abundant supply of fresh Pineapples in the summer season, very juicy and refreshing. My dentist says not so good for teeth as there is a lot of acid in the fruit. Pineapples are part of traditional folk law being past down as having medicinal uses.
Eating fresh pineapple is juicy and enjoyable.

  • Yes everyone needs to be aware of their bodily needs, where they live plus climate. All in all being cheerful .......

  • It pays to read the 'use by date' on the product purchased as they do lose their punch. Great that Herbs and Spices are becoming house hold names.
Parsley and mint were the only herbs available as my parents grew up.

  • Eat fresh and in season, preferably grown in the country one lives in, 'in theory' have the right nutrients for that community, the soil produce that product is grown and the seasons must play a part. i.e. Summer vegetables in the summer season.
Looked up -Phytochemicals any of various active compounds found in plants.
Micro nutrients - a chemical element or...

  • Having educated the mind to enjoy Super Food 'as it were' nothing else is quiet as satisfying to the palate. It appears we instinctively know whats good for the body and work with that.

  • All Super Foods mentioned on this course our family eat a lot and enjoy. Particularly the berries during summer months disappear very quickly

  • Never tried Kiwi Berries will look more closely for them

  • Yes it would be a good idea to understand the -dark- side
    Good week.
    Thank you

  • A positive report and good out-look with studies continuing. Having just read the article it lit up the mind, many others would have experienced the same effect, if or when finding themselves in difficulty at some stage in their life..... there's hope!!!

  • We are certainly very privileged to listen to research studies from people who are interested in health and well-being for everyone. Not just senior citizens or a selected culture but all walks of life and have a perseverance to keep up the study'
"Very interested in Super Food for the possible effects on Brain and cognition, besides the ones in our...

  • 'We are what we eat' is a saying that has been around for years. Have noticed how some foods weigh the body down, too many carbohydrates at a single serve, not being very nutritious, 'as it were' can put the mind into 'can't be bothered' mode. Have noticed those who study or translate documents eat very sparingly. It seems the study is part of their food,...

  • Very interesting. Just shows where the attention is or not!!!!

  • Kiwi Fruit have a good rating and perhaps considered a Super Food,
Boasting Vitamin C, Vitamin K, copper, Vitamin E, fiber, small amounts of Potassium with smaller amounts of Folate. Once they were called Chinese Gooseberries. When production started involving export and domestic markets everything exploded with many vines were planted on a commercial...

  • Well that says it all. I for one will up the consumption of Green Tea.
    Cheers

  • Well that was informative. My brother and I drank a lot cocoa during our childhood years everyday, with breakfast and after school. It was a ritual, teaspoon of cocoa and sugar pour in enough milk to make a paste and stirred until the kettle boiled. It was delicious. Somehow the cocoa today doesn't have the same flavour not the strong biter taste that I...

  • Eat chocolate in moderation and a little green tea.
We should in charge of the body and what is being eaten. Perfect.
Never too late to start learning.

  • Looking forward to this coming week. Good insight so far...
    Flavonoids next on the menu.

  • Food is medicine and should be available for all to enjoy, good health, full of happiness, and live a long happy. It seems the intentions at the beginning of any project starts off well but...... greed steps in, 'whats in this for me' and soon ends in disaster. . As we heard from the video

  • Interesting video on Buckwheat. Buckwheat isn't a product I've used much and certainly not in childhood. Will have to change that.

  • It certainly shows one should research the food value before making comment. Interesting

  • Mmmmm!! I have a few friends who have a gluten free diet. One, spent several days in hospital, it took a long time to find what was wrong. Still has trouble if by mistake eats ‘ordinary’ bread. For her it was / and still serious

  • I don’t feel the need to go Gluten Free, living a very healthy diet so why compromise ‘the state of play’ when these no need too

  • Decided on Apples,
a saying from childhood ‘an apples a day keeps the doctor away’ There wasn’t much available on the database so chose Apple Cider, an often talked about having health bearing properties and yes it can kill many types of bacteria.
Hippocrates ‘father of modern medicine ‘ used vinegar for wound cleaning, two thousand years ago.
    There were...

  • Researched USDA interesting, a lot of information at one’s fingertips. Good to know, positive step. Not too hard to understand

  • To answer the question to find database for food nutrition in the country one lives, yes, there is are differences. Having lived in Australia and New Zealand for several years one becomes aware of the different elements of each country. Australia has a very strong firery element, red earth, high temperatures. This must have an impact on food nutrition. New...

  • Loved the video. Waiting to get a clearer picture in mind as regarding super foods. Will let it sit for a while. All the items of food that have been presented so far are present in the diet. Keen to learn more .....

  • Will be very interested what result is found with 'gluten free' diet It wasn't until my daughter said she feels much better eating a gluten free, that was the first time I heard about anything gluten free. She has never been tested though! I have sampled Gluten free bread and have to say its awful, it didn't sit so well so guess I don't need a Gluten Free...

  • @MoiraBolt Never say you are old Moira, you sound very young at heart not everyone has had the privilege experience from past traditions.
I totally agrees with you, shooting animals for sport is unnecessary.

  • Good week, although obviously didn't pay too much on certain names re quiz.
Super foods are natural foods without any interference, mother nature certainly knows what she is doing ..... of course!!

  • There are articles suggesting that one's dinner plate should look like the rainbow, plenty of colour to ensure plenty of nutriments a wide range to be had by consumer. Reading the last article re Olive Oil a Polyphenol and others fruits, seeds etc. Polyphenols have a lot to do with the flavors of the food. So a question - If food tastes well and accepted to...

  • Because I enjoy coffee and have two mugs a day, There have been news items reporting that coffee is not so bad after all. How many cups of coffee do you drink a day, everything in moderation can't do much harm. I use ground plunger coffee beans and a proper plunger now for many years. There was a time instant coffee was used, a well known brand but that...

  • The video was excellent and will need time for the mind to assimilate. Anti -inflammatory a word used often in society today, aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil are hailed as being perfect for good results by the manufacturer. If there were or are certain combination of natural foods to increase anti-inflammatory properties or elements, one could introduce these...

  • Certain foods taste good to the pallet and if the digestion is happy then there's a fighting chance it works well with one's constitution and will certainly eat more. It seems we have to make this discussion for ourselves.
I'll stay with this answer for the time being until proven otherwise

  • I agree, Snap frozen is an excellent option.

  • Depends what one considers the definition of a super food is!
I have no prescribe medication and am extremely healthy also with family members which suggest perhaps genetics, where as some friends have gone through some uncomfortable situations. What I consider a super food -fresh vegetables, Bread, oats, seeds, fruit, fish, chicken, water, tea, coffee,...

  • Well not knowing a lot about Nutraceuticals and where and how they are used in society today. It seems an old 'fashion' saying eat what's in season, should be fresh and the origin importantly, the country one lives in.
Perhaps we are unknowingly poisoning ourselves by reading everything one reads on the labels .... believing it to be helpful and true?

  • A very interesting presentation, bringing attention to the mind 'traps' that one can fall into walking the supermarket isles. So the product with all the extra nutrients isn't necessary the best option for that item or the body. Perhaps this is where the word Myths comes into play. Or have I got it completely the wrong way round? Myths played a big part in...

  • Ha Ha yes first up!! The words 'Super Food' is very much part of modern day vocabulary, an adverb and noun perhaps! Like most words common in today's English Language, keep evolving and changing their once stock/sound meaning I.E. cool .... that's 'cool' could be a modern car, a lovely garment or an act of kindness, nothing about the temperature having...

  • Yes Of course Bees!! Cow's hide for making Vellum, plus tools and dyes to decorate the Manuscripts

  • Thanks for the encouragement to keep going with the course, at times the life is fulled, my attention needs to go else where.
Love the week have also always been draw to the Book of Kells and the like

  • The art work is Glorious reflecting dedication with precision, beauty, light with depth. Mankind is part of this creation, texts and writings from the ancient masters tell us God's or Atman (what every one turns to), that we are created in 'His image' its not surprising we to can create expressing the glories of creation.
    The architectural heritage reflects...

Informative video, thank you. To have access to traditional customs that held a population together would have bought a sense of belonging, peace and contentment. The care and foresight of the forefathers still holds a well founded legacy of today.

  • Challenges indeed!! Fig 1. showing a remote place for pilgrims, monks to contemplate the divine in prayer, plus chants, songs of praises to the celestial's heavens!! To the answer 'what challenges' the inhabitants faced ..... to live this life shows as being a pure act of devotion fulled with love. Hearts brimming with love one can works through all...

Letting go is something I have been practicing for a while, if it comes up again 'with what ifs!! ....' then again, let it go with a positive mind. I heard a story once about thoughts could be likened to a naughty child and if one ignores a naughty child the habit, It will go away.
    From experience it works.

  • Madeline Dennison made a comment

It has been noticed the mind would sometimes goes into a scenario that had absolutely nothing to do with me or my life. Fortunately its caught quickly having practiced mindfulness for a while .... how silly it is and laugh to myself. However it wasn't always the case, it caused tiredness, wasted energy, bad frame of mind, generally unhappiness that effected...

  • Learning this system is great, now continue to use the source I say to myself. What has been useful and very productive is If something comes to mind that wasn't part of the daily plan, I attend to it. Surprisingly it has shown 'it is/was the right time'
Part of my course I work with is to study ( no surprises there ) but a little voice says that's too...

  • Understand exactly what Craig has said, I have in the past mould over what could be said "a galaxy of imaginations."
Fortunately, can catch it now and back to the present moment until next sooner rather than later its noticed mind is not present.

A perfect saying that's bought to mind often "It is what it is" It has been my life's companion, as it were. To say and hear this words to one'self is very pacifying

  • Madeline Dennison made a comment

To be present has the quality of share luxury, ( figuratively speaking ) because we have been offered/shown a choice to let go or carry burdens.
Choosing is to decided between possibilities, everyone has the freedom to choose. So I'm going for freedom ..... the good

  • Yes!! A mantra - sacred word or phrase is indeed 'that which helps to focus"
A good way to consider it, also depends on the sound.

Oh! how rich is the life when mindfulness is applied, the capacity to learn doesn't have boundaries. Over the years I've studied and taught (still do) Sanskrit a very old language. Unlike modern languages Sanskrit hasn't changed since it came into our creation, the meaning of words does and mean exactly what being said. It has taken a very long time to...

  • 'Letting go' does have a great release, the breath is free to work unhindered. Taking with it, its noticed for a time, weight, wasn't aware there was any weight, pressure, tension. All three are as bad as each other.
Watching that comes freedom, interestingly the memory kicks in at the most unexpected times during the day the listening is sharpened, ...

  • Multi tasking is headache activity, Being watchful while engaging in activities things only have to be attended to once - not twice.
Don't always engage though but very happy with the effects I do make ....so not giving up

  • "A Horse Whisper" What a lovely skill to learn, great success on your part no doubt

  • Oh dear! would be better if straight was spelt correctly. Ha Ha Wasn't mindful then ......

  • A very refreshing week, very helpful and grateful to Craig and Richard, their time, gentle, calming and practical advise ... a very good example to us all.
    Thank you

  • To engage fully in activities has shown just how much has been missed, the remembering kicks in all most strait away now. Being a richer, fuller person points to much more useful individual I am , whether at the super market, or picking trash on a walk and placing it the right place that has been provided by the local council. That is just two examples,...
