  • Some years ago my husband and me met a man from South Korea, who spoke Korean and English. My husband could speak Korean and Russian, I spoke Russian and English, but no Korean. Our communication includes 3 languages at the same time: Russian (my husband and me), English (me and our guest), Korean (he and my husband). It was strange but it worked!

  • In Kazakhstan English is a foreign language. It means it almost doesn’t exist out of the classroom. In the street people use mostly Kazakh and Russian. There are English groups at the universities, English schools, but there is no English speaking environment in general.

  • I am from Kazakhstan and my mother tongue is Russian. I like learning languages a lot. In my country people speak Kazak or/and Russian. English is a foreign language

It would be interesting and useful to know how this essay was evaluated according to all 4 criterias

  • Totally agree

  • For me to read and understand the text is not very big problem, but in IELTS texts there are different assignments such as to choose something etc., and it is a problem to keep in mind all the details, especially when I am not interested in the subject. Most of texts are too far from my speciality

  • Hi, I am Alla Kim, 66, from Kazakhstan. I teach Psychology and do research, but most of my life I did it in Russian, my native language. I am eager to learn how to do academic writing in English in general and literature review for a start

  • Discuss the reasons why knowledge of Psychology is important for elite tennis players

  • I think speaking well is speaking without long stops, when you can find a proper word easily

  • Thank you for this course!

  • Stereotypes occur from lack of information. I can share with a practice how it was avoided. In one Scandinavian school children shared stereotypes of their families relating people from the other country, many of whom were migrants (they take our jobs, marry our women, they eat dirty food and so on). Children were asked by the teacher to write their opinions....

  • To be short I usually say ‘in groups of 3 please...’

I understand now that it is all right to use more common and simple vocabulary and grammar
    Thank you

  • I like this idea!!

  • Agree

  • No ‘but’!

  • Especially in social disciplines teacher’s English should be as much as possible but perfect. To be able to explain issues which are not easy to understand you have to use rich vocabulary and proper grammar. In my university any EMI teacher should have academic IELTS 6.0 at least. I agree that content and pedagogy is a priority, but active teaching tools...

  • I have a question about articles in the writing test
Are they ‘words’ in terms of quantity of writing?

  • I did IELTS only once, it was difficult for me to estimate number of words when writing and think about the content at the same time. As a result the first part of my writing was too short.

  • For me he has been iconic for his great influence on people, his understanding of love feelings, different in men and women, for his knowledge of human nature

  • I would recommend to stop watching movies in your native language, to watch them in English

  • I passed an IELTS exam only once, now I can compare my experience with examiner's view and clearly see the difference. I find all the tips very helpful, thank you !
