  • I am expectant

  • What have been the key learning points for you from this week?
I have seen the import of social enterprises in providing social and environmental value. This the government can enhance via various means.

What additional reading or research do you need to do now (if any?)
I am currently thinking critically about a social enterprise and whom to contact so...

  • So far i my country not many social enterprises deliver public services yet. This course is an eye opener for me because I am seeing possibilities of more engagement from government.
We have quite a difficult situation here in my country because of widespread corruption. People get procurement contracts from government based on who they know in government and...

  • I am wowed.
I am spurred to push for the continuation of the "Social Enterprise" I started sometime ago

  • I consider it an initiative that will foster the triple bottom line orientation - People, Planet & Profit.

Yes, I strongly recommend it for my country Nigeria. I think it will go a long way to solve societal problems.

  • I really appreciate the idea if well managed or monitored.

In my country context and possibly in many developing countries the case might be that some person will just opt for the "Social Enterprise" route so as to be able to have access to preferential procurement.
So my thinking is that there should some sort of probationary period that a social...

  • Nathaniel Ojo made a comment

    Would it work?
    Yes it would.
    Who could drive it?
The social enterprises have to drive it by creating awareness.
How could the campaign reach customers?
It would reach them via awareness especially with the wide availability of audience via social media.
    Who could sponsor it?
The social enterprises, non profit organizations, for profit businesses and...

  • The individual market has more potential in my country because it will provide ease of set up and also has lots of flexibilty.

  • A lot has been done in terms of policies to encourage business growth but little are been implemented.
We need implementation; particularly implementing the policies that will provide an environment with infrastructure where business can thrive.
This is the situation of my country.

  • I appreciate the CIC legal business structure initiative

  • Sole proprietorship, partnership and limited liability company are options of legal structure available in my country among others. These legal structures also exist in Cambodia (a country with one of the highest social enterprises per capita).

Some limitations with regards to these structures include access to funding and strict regulations.
    For instance...

  • Yes a combination of them can work. I think close monitoring and evaluation of the implementation will also determine the effectiveness of any of the methods employed.
    Well done Gam Tran.

  • A policy to encourage the establishment of small businesses.

The government can do this by making grants and low interest loan schemes available to start ups. The pro of this is that available capital to kick off will be of much encouragement but the con is that it could be diverted for other use or mismanaged. Rather than give out the monies the equipment...

  • Social enterprise in Sudan is a growing industry. The government needs to do more in creating an enabling environment for the social outfits seeing that they have great potentials for creating sustainable social and environmental transformation (of which government alone have not been able to achieve).

  • Government policies shape the market.
Government can enable social responsible business in my country by offering partnership relationships with them and also providing basic infrastructure that enable business growth

  • The term social enterprise.
This is a people centered model of business.
    Profit is made.
    Profit is not wrong.
Social enterprises reinvent their profits into the social cause they are pursuing.

  • What is core in every ideal "Social Enterprise'' is solving social problems.

  • Wow. The product seems quite commonplace but a difference can be made even with the most common business idea.

Having the SDG at the heart of operation in social enterprises is sacrosanct. A business cannot be said to be ''social'' if it not have making the quality of life and quality of the environment we live in better.

  • Social enterprises are on the increase in my country. Many though doubt the honestly of some of these firms in the way they handle their finances. This is largely due to the widespread corruption in our terrain.

  • Very interesting thoughts were shared in the video. I like the idea of the middle ground - the in-between profit and not for profit business.

In my country context social enterprises are geared at solving societal ills. So we have for example social entrepreneurs in the health sector who are developing tech friendly ways to make health care accessible to...

  • Social enterprises are key to national development especially in developing countries like Nigeria.
Doing business with the Triple bottom line notion is necessary for building sustainable systems

  • Social enterprise matters in my country Nigeria because the public sector has largely been unable to solve societal problems. We need Social enterprises to revamp our nation's Social economic landscape.

  • The key learning for me is that all stakeholders have a role to play - businesses, governments, civil societies and individuals if we will have just and eco friendly societies.

  • Sorry I mean to say that I "Strongly Agree"

  • Business is actually in a sense the life-blood of society. Business practices should nonetheless concerned about people and then the planet and then their profit. This is the ethically recommended model.

  • There needs to be Public-Private Partnership (PPP). All hands must needs to be deck. We need cooperation from all quarters in order to have a just and equitable society.
Businesses should fulfill their roles in ensuring that their practices are not harmful to the environment in which they operate and they they are also non discriminatory against the female...

  • People, Planet and Profit orientation. Profit can and should be made but not at the expense of the people and the planet.
It calls for a triple bottom line consideration urgently if we are going to have sustainable development.

  • Development that jeopardizes the ability of future generations to meet their needs is not sustainable development.
I have seen the devastating effect of flooding around me in recent times. The losses were so much.

  • Nathaniel Ojo made a comment

Nigeria's unemployment rate is at 9% as at 2020 with a population of over 180 million meaning 17 million are out of jobs.
Cost of unemployment includes increase in crime, cut down in overall production, emigration among others.
The young people (youth) are more vulnerable to the unemployment challenge.
Decent work is work is respects the dignity of human...

  • Nigeria is at 35.1. This is quite high due to obvious reasons of cause. The country has been plagued by serious underdevelopment. Security of lives of properties are under constant threats amidst growing violence's.

  • Very serious issues mentioned in the video. I am digesting the issues raised so I can be able to act appropriately.

  • I want to learn more about the structure of running a social enterprise. I have core interests in safe, healthy and sustainable environmental practises.

  • the fact that stress is how one resonds to excessive pressure and not necessarily the pressure itself.
    No questions for now.
My views about stress management are being reshaped.

  • Technostress I guess. I consider it the most common place stress in today's world of technological advancement and digitization.

I don't have ant questions yet.

Yes. I now see stress from a multi-dimensional perspective.

  • Customer care representative, banking, essential services unit like medicine

  • It hampers optimal productivity.
It can result in interpersonal rifts.
Job and overall satisfaction cannot be achieved.

The approaches of the organizations in the case study reflects that they all saw the need to address stress in the workplace by being proactive.
The employee well being programme for example is a comprehensive approach that was taken to...

  • I believe that mental health is a growing concern in today's society. I want to learn more about it and apply the knowledge I will gain in my life. It will also enhance my ability to offer quality time and stress management services at the HR firm where I work.

  • How to explore the email marketing channel seeing it's viability.

  • Great insights I learnt here. I will start compiling a list of emails of potential customers from now on for the start ups I run

  • Useful info shared here. Over 3.5 billion searches every day wows me.

  • I want to learn how to apply the knowledge of SEO in my business

  • I think banner advertising is key for a clothing company.

With banner advertising several items can be displayed which appeal to the eyes and taste of people.

Pay per click can be used to boost the number of persons that visit the company's site. More views hold prospect for increased patronage.

Search engine optimization can be used to increase the...

  • I think I do. One area to look at it is that urban areas use more 'disposables' while rurals use 'reusables'.

  • Very well noted Sis.

  • Very well noted. We appreciate.

  • Very appreciative...

  • Many thanks lady. More exploits on your pathway.

  • Thanks Ma'am. It's an overall engaging experience.

  • I will wait till then

  • I'm so glad and grateful that I was able to follow through every step. This course is so inspiring and mind shaping.

Many thanks to all facilitators and participants.

  • Bravo!

    I'm thrilled and also motivated.

  • Rightaway...

  • The broad perspectives are important because it will help one to fully grasp the scope and implication of the task at hand and also provide a clearer sense of direction.

  • Making everyone involved accountable reveberates to me.

Maybe 'what to do if the strategy does not scale through' could have been added.

  • Making everyone involved accountable reveberates to me.

Maybe 'what to do if the strategy does not scale through' could have been added.

  • Making everyone involved accountable reveberates to me.

Maybe 'what to do if the strategy does not scale through' could have been added.

  • My policy idea links to my passion in the sense that I have always being put off by unhealthy environmental practices like bush burning, indiscriminate waste disposal, poor waste management among others right from my childhood. This actually formed the driving force for me to want to pursue the formulation of policy geared towards teaching children and...

  • It's a good one

  • Apt description of the key issues. Thanks.

  • She was tenacious in spite of her mobility disability.

I seek to form a synergy with those who have similar interest as I have to ensure sustainability and continuity.

  • Kudos to you.

Sometime ago I was in touch with Sandra Miller, the leader of dignity dream in South Africa who is leading the reusable sanitary pads initiative in many parts of Africa. It was quite shocking for me to know that it takes over five hundred (500) years for a used sanitary part to decompose on a landfill or ocean bed.

  • Very interesting thoughts shared here. The Greater Environmental Project (GEC) has its target audience as Children and adolescents. My belief of achieving transformation by engaging this category of persons have been strengthened by this short video.

  • Good to go

  • Surely making progress

  • Carrying the stakeholders along.

  • Yes I somewhat agree with the description of power in the video.

I think what is missing in the description when considering the use of power in the day to day world is that power is many at times used negatively to implement 'selfish' policies that will only favour some sort of click. Some persons get power drunk which leads them to oppress. We see the...

  • I once spoke against someone who diposed waste from the vehicle as we were going out and then someone in the bus thought I was being extreme or a fault finder.

I think I was not just comfortable with the person's action to dispose waste and I had to argue with the person who thought I was extreme (though to no avail). I didn't really fix the...

  • Awesome. I'm really engrossed in this learning process.

  • I have seen the 'reciprocity' play out play out before.
When I started the Greater Environmental Concern (GEC) during my National Youth Service Year (NYSC) I went to schools for outreaches in schools. The leadership of the schools were pleased with the impact of the orientation on the participants.

After sometime I needed approval from these schools that...

  • Children and adolescents, governmental and non governmental agencies that are environmentally inclined and the Community where our activities will be carried out.

  • Very engaging thoughts you have shared here Ayo. Many thanks.

  • I grew up in an environment plagued with several bad environmental practices and this always was a sorry sight for me. This prompted me to to see to this that things got better and then I got committed to the clean and green Nigeria passion.

  • Passion all the way.

  • Making contact with key stakeholders who are at a pivotal stage of their career.

The reason why I think this way is because this is the pathway that I mostly prefer to advancing the policy I want to implement

  • I find it puzzling to say which is most important because all are invaluable.

  • The barrier of changing attitude & perception.

It was overcome by still going ahead to do the little bits he could do.

I will prefer to use same approach of focusing on how to get people to see the need for the desired change.

  • I'm good to go.

  • Splendid experience so far. Many many thanks.

  • Evidence is not final. it is progressive. The reason I find this useful is that I use to think every evidence is final so it has changed my perspective.

  • The observation approach is more valuable in my context.

The most important consideration when deciding an approach is to consider if the there will be so much of a noticeable difference in the outcome if either method is used.

  • Quantitatively I need the evidence from statistics of the number of persons that are affected by poor environmental practices. For example the number of persons that are affected by erosion.

Qualitatively I need to assess the impact of poor environmental practices on the minds and attitudes of residents; why do people act the way they act with regards to...

  • A problem or set of problems were identified which were backed by strong evidence and then unified steps were taken to address them by formation of policies.

  • Step 1
    Step 1

  • I am sure of my policy idea and passion so what I will do is to go into more deeper research to get figures and statistics and human stories (evidence) that will support my idea. The present radical change in climate and increase in flooding and the number of persons affected as well as property lost are some of the evidence.

  • Hypothesis:
Teaching healthy, safe and sustainable environmental practices to children and adolescents will help to place Nigeria on its way to being clean and green.

    Prediction:
We will have a citizenry in Nigeria that will be conscious of caring for her environment because Eco-friendliness will be the order of the day.

    Testing:
    From observation...

  • The reason I find most compelling is the need for evidence to strenghten one's case by the first speaker. I judge it so because it is has direct image in making or influencing the policy makers to see the need to act or implement the policy that the given case strengthen by evidence is putting forth.

  • I'm so expectant...

  • We are surely on our way to transformation. We will teach people how to care for the environment and also push for punitive policy measures to be taken if there are defaulters.

I think recently the Lagos state FRSC passed a law of NGN5000 on anyone who disposes waste from a vehicles and other automobiles.

  • Good experience so far. Many thanks to facilitators and participants.

  • My passion:
To see a clean and green Nigeria.

    Policy formation:
Teaching children and adolescents safe, healthy and sustainable environmental practices.

Progress with regards to four steps of purpose:
I am yet to figure out the actual method to fund this initiative.
I have studied and is still studying about environmental practices that children and...

  • A given (local) problem was identified and then a passionate way of solving it was stated succinctly.

  • Lobbying policy makers to influence policies. This seems to be common around me here.

  • Teaching and empowering others.

When people get transformed they will see the need for team work and the creation of vision and strategic purpose.

  • It's same basic ideas expressed in different words; just semantic differences.

  • I long to be part of debates that leads to the formation of policies.

  • Luther led a change during the Church history phase called 'Reformation'.
He was so passionate about dissuading people from purchasing indulgences in order to change the eternal state of their loved ones. He also vehemently insisted that salvation is by grace alone even when his live was threatened. He never recanted. That change he led has spread down the...

  • Cheers Bro!

  • My passion is to see a clean and green Nigeria so I propagate the gospel of Eco-friendliness particularly to children and adolescent.

  • I hope to learn how to convert my passion for eco friendliness into specific policy driven projects that will transform my community
