  • Eagered of getting to know the concepts and mechanics on Energy Return on Energy Invested (EREI).Interesting course I ever come through .

  • Interesting !

Plastic pollutions, and Water Pollutions poison the food humans eat. Drip irrigation is much safer for health as it has low contamination effects on waters through low linkages with edible plants and ensures efficiencies in water resources utilizations .

  • I get to have insights on natural toxins called Tropane Alkaloids and their impacts on the health and food supply chains. Interesting course.

  • I think the World or Global Security Solutions have overlooked the operating factors and challenges for Food Security in less developing countries. I had glimpses to to the chanting of mainstream media on the recent starvation on Zimbabwe due to prolonged drought and the zero hunger targets missed to addresses the constraints or restraints to achieve food...

  • Steve it is good to look the feasibility in production sides on palm oil ,and yield efficiencies are much higher than the oil produced from pulses or other crops. In fact, its efficiencies in fuel are much higher than that fossil fuel. All those advantages by corporations have led to destruction of palm oil tree (forest) without clemency .Get to refer back the...

Interesting course I ever joined.I'm glad if we get get back to other subjects /courses in climate issues and look forward that futurelearn will bring to us.Thanks.

  • You know China had once inaugurated developments as GREAT LEAP FORWARDS during the Era of Mao and ,development put huge loses to forests lands due to deforestation. Currently, after reaching contemporary developmental stages ,current government has marched for tree planting program projected to cover huge land size.

  • Corporations should take accountability for damages to environments ,and West defends in favor these giant companies. Exploitation in value chain benefits should be fair enough to address the primary actors (producers, collectors).

  • Dr Tristan put the solutions and strategies for going with mitigation and adaptations for new buildings to come if the new urban building follows the foot steps Montgomery Primary School in UK. He pointed out that ensuring adaptation with existing building are not easy we speak. I would quote his words here ,"the trouble is we don't knock down our buildings...

  • Shocking. The Skyscrape are not even the safest place for humans and yet the extreme weather from heat waves is taking life of thousands in Europe. Rethinking is required with urban developments endeavors to reduce the vulnerabilities in cities.

  • I think big ships that surf to oceans have extracted the fish and contributed to reductions in population of fish by putting sustainability of fisheries into question than small fisheries with boat around the coasts do. Climate changes have adversely affected the livelihood of communities that depend on fisheries by large. The incidents would ultimately...

  • The revolution in the science of Chemistry and Geo Engineering come to rescue the oceans from acidification but may even take 100years from to keep the balances.

  • The west (major contributors in GHG emission )should pay or financing the externalities they have already created and stand on side of Africa Solar Energy Development Initiatives including rural electrification. We must look Africa as Development Partners not as aid recipient. We would tight our belts in planting more trees (specially endogenous multipurpose...

  • Thank you I have made glimpses to 2040 Official Trailer from YouTube and it is interesting. The hope is there ,and but 2040 is not long .Let stay optimists if all acts. You know mitigation is not easy thing as it requires technological transformations where I see some points that steer to fossil fuels (dependence on fossil fuel energy sources ) and...

  • Paul I went through the link you shared on Palm oil.Production of palm is destructive to environment as it leaves the forest degradation and social environment ( exploitation of labor). There fore,I suggest that palm oil can be replaced with other oils(vegetative oil, sunflower oil).

  • Interesting! "Perhaps the best way combat land use change is reverse it ". China is to celebrate the GREAT LEAP FORWARDS with initiatives on GREAT GREEN WALL and joined the global campaign for carbon sinks through AFFORESTATION.

  • Tropical forests are great shields and world should provide the schemes of supports to the countries endeavours to ensure the the carbon sinks.African and Amazon forests will remain the lungs of the earth if global move for enhancing global terrestrial carbon sink put their eyes to the giant belts of forests.

  • Impressive!Combination of two geo-engineering tools are helpful to mitigate the likely impacts of climate actions. Experiments on geo-engineering have demonstrated positive results.Biochar has reminded me some of the traditional practices of burning of matters in to soil after crop harvests endeavours to improve crop yields.Science has come to help them to...

  • @MadeleineBlu great to hear your concern on Africa as we speak of climate solutions. Boycotting eating meat is not both feasible and viable technical solutions for Africa.Africa is not the main contributors to global GHG emission but Africans suffers from the externalities created by the main polluters (the Western World,China,Russia). The cattle of Africa...

  • I got the point that circular food economy is the remedy to tackle the Food Wastage.

  • Improving production on existing land need greet attentions ,and efforts to realize food security in less developing countries.
Cutting eat meat will not be viable options to combat impacts of climate changes at least in the short run as it would adversely affect the economies of less developing countries whose economy largely depend on livestock...

  • Climate changes have already affected the small holders ,and it has complicated the the food security status of small holders farmers. Therefore, the points forwarded in improving food security at local scales attempts address the local contexts and improving the adoptive capacity of small holder farmers is key to support and gear up to achieve food security....

  • Renewable Energy sources are the best options that would help to ensure the environmental sustainability.

  • Geo engineering has come up addressing the to stabilization of global worming through scientific methods on carbon trapping. The costs ,and feasibilities affect the application of Geo engineering and at some points on Radiation Management we could not keep the Pareto optimality. I still put my hopes on planting of more trees or honor the Forest developments...

  • Climate changes are realities the world is currently facing it ,and threats from climates changes have already put pressures the aquatic life, humans and animals in to vulnerabilities. Changes in natural climates have already complicated the food production (crop and livestock ) for small holders farmers that depend on rain fed production.
    Time to act together...

  • "How can we grow enough crops to feed everyone healthy and at the same time protect our soils ,water resources, ecosystems, biodiversity, and climate" is thematic point. Great!

  • The following are major thematic Points :
*''critical and logical thinking can be and often is, about very ordinary ,everyday issues'' is the key point that the course in Logical and Critical Thinking would influence our practices in the way think and respond to things in our daily life.
*Sometimes small questions gear to big questions to enrich the logical...

  • Hi, everyone. I am Seifedin. I find the course interesting.

  • Seifedin Kemal made a comment

I hope it will be interesting and I enjoy the course.

  • Interesting.

  • Interesting topic and I have captured the thematic points as follows. Response to disasters from international communities reach the affected communities most probably after 72hours[three days] and it may even take longer hours depending countries declaring of emergencies. Some countries like Australia is rich in building institutions and services responding...

  • The key points :
Risks affect the achievement in project objectives and hence we need to identify risks(through consulting stakeholders and project teams),put the identified risks in to Risk Log /Risk Register ,conduct thorough assessments on risks, and set strategies to deal with risks.A glimse to likely occurrence of risks and their impacts on project ...

  • Activities are decomposed in to different components and responsibilities are set.It supplements the planning, budgeting and monitoring of project.

  • Project plan starts with description of objectives and scopes.Great.

  • Interesting point.Answering key questions help to address issues related unforseen uncertainty and those factors may impact the project outcomes.

  • Interesting topic. The interception of uncertainty(capacity to anticipate of what could happen ),Complicity(based on size of organization, processes involved, interconnection of various elements within project structure),and pace(the urgency/speed at project moves to meet the project goal) determine the level of Risk that defines the project category.

  • I think a good formulation, allocation of resources and monitoring the progress make projects to be successful.

  • Interesting topic. The three dimensions of parameters determine the the outcome, and hence ,project management is delivering intended outcomes by managing the trade offs between/among the constraints (time, schedule, and scope).

  • My name is Seifedin. I am glad to join the course on Project Planning and Management.

  • Thanks! It is interesting course.Thank u again for ur dedications in bringing eye opening course that focuses on issues of global food security.
"I am happy for my name and comment to be quoted in publication and presentations associated with this research" .

  • I have googled to explore the relation between hunger and obesity.Amazingly, the statistical cross sectional data assessment on women in USA indicates that there is direct relationship between hunger with food insecurity and obesity. Here it goes.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4146558/

  • Interesting articles. At Farm and Livelihood,:
Capacity to access food are also determined the level of Income and thus working on promoting Income helps to bring food security for farmers at subsistence farming.
Bringing new approach in agricultural productivity in sustainable manner also helps to ensure food security.Enhancing resilience of agriculture to...

  • Hi.William Omoro.I have gone through ur article and thank u for sharing it.It represents the realities with how hunger goes in Africa.Breaking the traps in vicious food poverty remains huge issues to be addressed as far as food security in Africa is concerned.
I also appreciate heriosm of Ghana in dramatically addressing issues of nutrition and food...

  • It is interesting thing hear from presentation.I brought up in communities with subsistence farming and here are my observations. It is true that the farmers in the countryside face misery on hunger. In circumstances where land holding is fragmented and there are high family size per cultivated land, annual food demand outweighs the size of annual food...

  • I agree with points that improvements in harvesting and storage facilities, drying of crops,Public infrastructure in rural road networks and markets contribute to reduction in post harvest losses.

  • Seifedin Kemal made a comment

In Africa ,Post harvest food losses are major problems that have contributed to inefficiencies in Food Production.

  • Thank you.

  • Interventions includes various physical stractutes( including checkdams, hill side trace and other stractures ) and biological interventions (including planting trees, vegetation and others) are remedies for soil erossions including gully treatment.

  • If gully erosion is reality in Spain then Researchers,Farmers and Government have responsibility to address it.Community Consultation and participation is necessary in addressing problem.Communities may contribute their resources (labor and money).

  • I think interventions in soil conservation(both biological and physical )helps to soil erosion ) reduces gully erosion.

  • It is very interesting thing.I have gone through the transcript. My question is can we have common platform on mitigation measures that help us to avoid the adverse impacts mobilization of soil nutrients to water sources?

  • I think soil Degradation, and loss on natural habitat are the major environmental problems related crop production in Africa.

  • Seifedin Kemal made a comment

    Thanks.

  • Innovative community practices in managing their production under constraints and external factors (drought) should be promoted.

  • Well.First I'm African. In some African countries differentials in access to land have adversely affected food production, and food system.

  • External factors like climate changes have adversely affected move to food security in AFRICA.

  • Thanks. It is great to have this opportunity.
I have enjoyed all the courses.Tips, practice tests, links ,presentation and overall organization of courses are interesting.

  • I think we need to give focus on audio materials to improve listening skill.Concentration while listening is also key to make changes in listening skill.

  • Thanks.

  • Thank you.

  • Thank you. This is a great opportunity for me to attend the courses in IELTS.

  • I think a good friend is someone who shares your burden in time of adversity and your happiness in time of prosperity.A good friend is always loyal and shapes your ways of life, while bad friends lead you to the ditch.

  • My advice to anyone with stress in exam is to share their views with friends or nearby family members with knowledge over the course areas.
