  • I think many people will loose their jobs because of AI, especially at lower level job types and even some decision makers. It will create new lower level jobs to overseas its decisions at first.

  • I am interested in understanding the basics of how we use various software to create and teach machines to use processes to act as artificial intelligence.

  • I've managed the teams that produced videos in a large corporation and produced two videos personally for non-profits using film crews and editing crews. Looking forward to learning the DIY and putting it to practice.

  • So looking forward to stepping up my game with enhanced video skills. I've used video to teach as an automated PowerPoint for years. With this course I look forward to learning how to bring in actors to help carry the message.

  • Climate change to me means earth entering a new chapter that from this vantage point doesn't look hospitable to humans.

I am wanting to build a better knowledge base to talk with others beyond the news stories regarding climate change. This is my second related course having just finished Invisible worlds.

  • Finding a way to host 30 minute local community discussions introducing these topics and creating a ground swell of interest and small change initially.

  • The article: The Anthropocene: Evidence and Impact gives some beneficial insight into the study of man impacting the plant. The Anthropocene is a baseline for this course and understanding where/how the term originated added to the knowledge base for this and other courses. I wondered, is it the right place in the course and agree 100% with its placement here...

  • Or is the concept here that humans have been messing things up badly. Maybe we've finally grown smart enough to know what we are doing poorly, and can talk about fixing things. But if human future behavior is like its past, where we exploit minerals and animals until they are extinct we may be on borrowed time. Maybe there is still time to change human nature...

  • Lee Iacocca, an Automobile exec once said, “You can have brilliant ideas,
but if you can’t get them across, your ideas won’t get you anywhere.“ Listening to Sarah and Tim explain how they accomplished the stunning and knowledge sharing exhibit/video shows the power of great communication.

  • What a superb, modern example of discrimination!

  • Their work, multiplied by thousands of workers, removed many of the myths that had been spun over the decades about everything women could not do. By removing the myths they helped to clear the paths for more clear conversation and legislation.

  • Hugh Arthur Franklin showed how the movement was across gender as well as the militancy. You could spend days investigating the records and build some fascinating talks for fellow classmates.

Women have not, as a sex, or a class, the calmness of temperament or the balance of mind, nor have they the training, necessary to qualify them to exercise a weighty judgment in political affairs. - I find this statement proven wrong in the actions women had been taking for 40 years already.

  • I find it impressive that the movement understood it had to win the hearts and minds of fellow citizens, not just achieve the factual recognition that giving the franchise to women was appropriate. It's the heart of what modern marketing attempts to accomplish with huge capital outlays. The banners and plays were brilliant!

  • I had not heard of the pilgrimage before.
People tend to want to forget the struggles required to reach change.
It was not surprising that the police didn't protect the protestors. I imagine that the police see protesters as change agents and why should they protect more than the minimum.

  • Reading about the American women's movement shed light on the importance of the UK's movement influencing many of the American leaders.

  • Really well done! Great examples.

  • Great portrait of the two SM tools and a nice highlight of the B2B vs B2C consideration of most other tools. I like this free but slightly outdated picture of all the social networks out there: https://conversationprism.com/

  • My takeaway is that communication, completed correctly should be a challenge. It's not overly difficult, yet not easy and requires the communicator to think through the various channels that their audiences may use to influence their thinking.

  • I've learned that any more than 3 bullets on a chart should face serious scrutiny. What a great class!

  • As a public speaker for a hobby and a global presenter for work these tips are exactly the guidance people who have not presented, need. They are 100% on the money for making communications effective!

  • I find listening twice as much as speaking provides significant benefits. Writing what you heard positions everything that you need to say. I believe its usually a recipe for success. But difficult to follow.

Hi, I have two parallel careers one as a digital marketing communicator engaging contacts with corporate messages and the other as an historic aviation author with six books published on the topic. I'm interested in developing ideas on expanding the interest levels of people in history and how history impacts their lives.

Maneuvering through the corporate skills alignments can be tricky. Success is typically related to the managers overseeing the programs you work in. A key soft skill is getting along with almost everyone, sometimes at the risk of slower progress but keeping the end game in mind. Maintaining flexibility in how to solve problems is an art - share your ideas and...

  • Hi everyone - I'm John and live outside of New York City. I've worked in IT and digital marketing a long time and am considering what's next in the journey of life and being engaged with community. I look forward to learning what Deakin University can teach us about self-reflection, skills assessment and how to leverage those personal learnings in the the next...

  • One could say that value of innovation within a commercial enterprise is measured by its competitive advantages in margin, profit and growth. They typically occur hand in hand.

  • Advertising has to be one of the weakest channels of communications for the most part if you are selling complex products. Great for retail- sale!

  • A digital footprint is a powerful marketing journey but so many marketers thirsty for the masses try to average the footprint losing its real value to sales. Finding the way to assign priorities to or checkpoints to the digital footprint makes the transition of marketing Big Data to sales conversion. It's hard and it those checkpoints change over time but can...

  • I liked this short module - it tackled a complex problem and using just a few words clearly differentiated customer driving or customer driven base on how to optimize the customer benefit.

  • It would great if the video opened in a new window. Not a major problem but a nice to have because as in this example there were many topics of interest separate from the course.

  • Cloud based, encrypted data centers work, TLS communications coupled with who maintains the encryption keys help provide data protection at the organizational level but Big Data is based upon finding, storing and analyzing small pieces of information about a person. It is so easy to leave a trail that when analyzed as Big Data suddenly tells much more of a...

  • In every large business digital changes impact organization divisions differently. Its especially noticeable when management of a division accepts or rejects the changes of digital. One product set will advance its sales and customer NPS scores seemingly out of line because they have embraced digital reach across channels preferred by their customers. While...

  • I chose healthcare where different organizations have created unique data portals to access health records, scans, and other information that use to be difficult to acquire and share. The aspect of security has taken a new importance aligned with data access through multiple portals.

  • Rather than best practices we have started calling techniques that work smart practices. The reason, marketing people would call the group and say give me the latest best practices to make my product successful. But successful techniques don't work in every situation so by calling techniques smart practices people seem to realize that you have to THINK before...

  • Having a communications plan hashed out is critical to success and both examples show how it plays into success. One company started out with a plan and expanded it with as success flowed their way, one seemed to find it necessary a little later in their business plan.

  • The question we ask one of the marketing mangers is where does social sit in the buying cycle. It can fit in multiple steps but if that is the case you need different messages and aids to the audience to leverage the right content for that point in the cycle. Most see SM as the entry and decision element to sway a decision but do you have the supporting...

  • Digital marketing is simply marketing in the digital channel. All the same principals apply, finding prospects with a need for your product or service, convincing them that your offer is the best option for them and then closing the transaction. Digital has techniques unique to the channel and being relatively young as a channel with an ever changing target...

Hi, I live near New York City and love these Future Learn courses. I've managed digital marketing teams since 2000 in Fortune 10 companies and now a Fortune 100 company. Very different in their approaches and I look forward to learning and sharing experiences, projects and solutions with my new classmates.

  • The links to Pew and many other tools through the seminar have been extremely beneficial. Made more bookmarks from this seminar than any of the other courses I've attended. Great work by our leaders.

The glossary link was not working today. Every module of this course has been terrific and eye opening.

  • Before entering into an elective the student should take a cultural intelligence course. There is a good one in Future Learn. It's exposure may help avoid these kind of immature international missteps.

  • Thanks - and similarly to the videos in class, the family aspect was top priority. Both from my personal situation and because they wanted to know what they should expect. I found, from a patient pov the scenarios very realistic. Well done.

  • I authorized a genetic test after I had some significant surgery a few years ago. The geneticist took about 90 minutes explaining what could come from the test, what its strengths and weaknesses were and collecting family history. When the results were returned it was so much easier to understand what was being explained because of the prework she had done....

  • Catalogs of RLOs are wonderful things except things begin to look dated over time. Older RLOs are looked at even if the topic coverage is 100% on target without any changes. How have you managed the catalog currency questions. Does a new introduction have merit as a new deployment date for an RLO in your opinion?

I struggle with core to core challenges causing hostilities. When people insist on pushing their core onto you or so it seems, I find I'm not willing to flex enough to solve the issue with a small group of individuals.

  • John Cilio made a comment

Trust was once core, always trusting someone to do what they say, its become flex not because I don't care as much but rather people did not deliver my expectation, which isn't necessarily correct, but just the same didn't deliver so now its flexible on each situation.

  • John Cilio made a comment

With too long of a rope, or too much flex that boat starts to bang into the nearby dock causing a different set of issues showing the importance of the time sensitive environment on core and flex.

  • Work and personal life are dramatically different. Many people at work see a process oriented, demanding SOB but find with reasoning there is nearly limitless flex. In personal scenarios people find me knowledgeable and talkative and sense, sometimes calling it out, more flex than I really have. I'm comfortable letting others push to the edge of core before...

  • I agree with Katharine, if everyone is confident about using the tools then can be helpful. The paper templates encourage group...

  • Moving people in groups from storming to performing seems to be dependent on trust built during the initial phases and the belief that the balance of everyone's viewpoint is equally valid and open to debate beliefs. • A common problem I've found is some sub-group in the organization whose interest was not covered in the specific object attempts to add that interest though the storyboard design. If the person representing the sub-group is also a higher level member of the organization it can be a bit compromising and requires leadership to guide the team through the...

  • A technique I've used to ensure everyone has a chance to speak in a storyboard session is the use of a simple egg timer. Everyone then gets to vote with a nod if the person should flip the timer over and continue or if we should move the timer, thus to a new...

  • How knowing the past of other cultures is a key to understanding their present and future was something I knew, sort of, but hearing stated was like setting off a beacon.

The present: The element that seems the smallest because it slips away so quickly into the past yet invests in the future. I

The future: The largest, it's our objective, we just have to figure out how to get there.

  • Excellent content in the link to the video - How to optimize students' learning? Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning. I downloaded it because it will be a nice review doc after the class is completed to make one think before developing a new RLO. Wish it opened in a new tab as a usability option.

  • It's personal choice because I tuned out the text, knew it was there but used the video then scanned the text to see if there was any different detail. It really does come down to how with the intended target audience best leverage the mix of styles used in the RLO. Getting it optimized is the challenge!
