  • @PurnimaPerera you are right - it is a bit of a minefield. The project is focused on the USA - but the work will be applicable in other contexts I think.

  • It seems to me (at least at the beginning of this course) that the line between ethical and unethical research can be thin and at times blurred (at least in the mind of the researcher). In light of that thought, I would agree that Goffman did in fact cross the line on numerous occasions. I think it would be obvious that her involvement impacted on the context...

  • Hi everyone, I'm a PhD student at the University of Leicester in the Department of Criminology. My research is exploring Female Genital Mutilation in diaspora communities.

  • I already plan to do the research - for work and in order to drive social action and social change. Doing it as part of a PhD offers a couple of benefits:

    1. It should make the research more rigorous. Hold it to a higher standard.

    2. It should make the research results more credible - as they will be published.

    3. It offers me something back (the PhD)...
