Hello everybody. Thanks very much for your help and your support along the way.
The most illuminating thing I learnt this week was about intonations thanks to the video from BBC learning English.

I still do have many questions as I need time to assimilate what I have learnt, practice makes perfect isn't? I will definitely work on my pronunciation going...

I am still confused about the trap a but I need to say that it was absolutely hilarious that scene from 'My big fat Greek wedding'.

Ok, all this is interesting...and at this stage, I am really curious to see if they'll teach us how to pronounce the trap a. Anyway, I found very interesting that bit about the split between trap and bath. Sorry if I put it like this.
I have also gone trough some comments and I am fascinated by @Dr.GrahamSmith and I am tented to test my neighbours as well....

  • Hold on a moment... Isn't k an invoiced consonant? I quite understand why look is on the left column (short sound) but in my opinion, it should be the same with Luke. Is there an exemption to the rule in case of names of people?

Please let me know, I am getting interested in!

This week I have figured out a new way to improve my pronunciation. Thank you very much for the suggestion of recording my voice; I love it!!! I am sure I will benefit from that in the long term.
    1) Do you have any other recommendations?

I am thinking of recording my voice daily just repeating 10 similar words and then make a comparison between my...

  • Dear Laura and Amrita,
I am in a big trouble here; we do pronounce the r in Italy and in the Roman accent. Just to give an example I tend to say the word "Roma" with a strong r in Italian as it is at the beginning of the word.

When it comes to English, I don't mind doing the British pronunciation in car, park, bear, understand or similar words where the...

  • I am in two minds about that as we are rhotic in Italy; in addition to this here in Scotland they definitely pronounce the r.

  • I would like to master English at work as I strive to improve my career in Finance. In my private life; it happens to me that sometimes locals do not understand me and I hope it is because they are Scots!!! At this stage, my aim is to become fluent in English; after that, I will definitely catch up with Scots and Scottish culture.
    Anyone here has been living...

  • My difficulties are:
1 the silent letter; I have read the t in castle for ages and it was a trauma when I figured out it was silent! The same for the w in answer.
2 the T sound that sometimes is pronounced as "c" as like in Tuesday
3 the S sound at the end of a name/verb as often is said with a z sounds

  • Hi everybody. I am Diana, from Italy. I need to boost my English for a couple of reasons, first, I live in Scotland and speaking English helps (I prefer English to Scots as I am interested in international contexts=. Last but not least, I am an English addict and I have been hooked on English Channels over the past months. As they said, Rome has not been built...
