Hi I am managing and working in a SME healthcare business in the Solomon Islands.I am late in starting but will try my best to catch up....this is a very important aspect of business for me to understand well and improve.Thank you all.

  • Canadatime online, amazing how they not only reply to all emails but also directly call you wherever in the world you are. Friendly, like they know you well.Incredible how internet, social media will create more platforms and opportunities.

  • A.Electronic or high tech business interaction with customer requires employees to be well versed with all products, excellent customer care, prepare to spend a lot of time to answer and ask a lot of questions, provide comfort for each customer at a time etc.
    B. Explain and engage well with clients, gentle approach, show empathy, well dressed.
    C. Clean and...

  • Yes my business is not adequately meeting the expectations of most of my stakeholders including my customers by simply failing to make the first connections. My customers who are my patients can be lost to my competitors if not enough action is done to foster a growing relationship for all my stakeholders.

  • Hello, I am Donna Wate from a SME in my country of Solomon Islands. I am in the healthcare industry.

  • As a small medical private GP there is a lot to be covered in improving our quality health care. I hope to gain valuable insight into this aspect of health care business.

  • In my country, there is variation of care as you move out to peripheral health centers with lack of almost all health resources.

  • In my changing culture the three v's are all very important. But verbal is I think more important.

Giving a good first impression in how I dress, communicate and approach people from different cultural background for the first time is crucial. In my culture the most important tip is listening more to others, do research and dress accordingly. This is because of the Christian, post English, traditional sacred heritage prior to Christianity background of my...

  • Hi Shereen,
Nice to meet you here, I agree with your comment although I am still trying to catch up with the rest of you in this course.
Hope to meet you in future commentaries.

  • Yes, for me I have managed to successfully build rapport with someone from another culture for the first time by being confident, first to approach and just say hello, interested in them by asking simple questions like how are you?, where are you from? etc..and offer them help if they need and tell them you are available to help if needed. A challenge for me...

  • Professionalism in image and how we dress up for the workplace is important, so knowing where, when, why & how to dress in this formal industry should be researched prior to employment. But changes, fashion, trends and personal financial standing should be considered. For me I dress in the best official clothing I have in my possession to work only second to...

  • That first impression is important and showing the willingness to learn, especially the vision, mission, goals & plans of the organization.

  • Very useful tips to remember and do on the first job for any body, wish I had these when I first started a new job a long time ago

  • Yes very familiar with the experiences, my first job fresh in high school was the most difficult with fear overriding me in a new place, meeting new people, systems, ways of communication between different sex group and management.
Exciting thing in a new job for the first time is the remuneration. Challenging would be meeting new people who are unfriendly...

  • Differences: I'm in a very small business with no hierarchy. Similarities: everyone in the workplace is valuable, respected and consulted for ways to progress.

  • Fear that other people will think negative thoughts about my attempts to network, especially in a small community setting, but I believe and know I must take courage and stand up for what I think is the best way to improve and grow my business prospects

  • Above the surface: places, people & leadership. Below: Narrative & practices. Above the surface is easy to place examples unlike below the surface which can be complicated and deep seated. Be more careful in how I perceive the workplace, not only appreciate above but below the surface as well. I think leadership can fit in both places.

I have to agree to this analogy. Also it can be seen that culture in determined by people and we are not all the same but varied in many respects.

  • Hardworking, good listener, analytical & trustworthy. Hardworking because I am goal oriented from my childhood. Good listener and not a very good speaker because of my humble character. Analytical because I think a lot and prefer to read, books, materials from internet etc...Trustworthy because I was determined to tell the truth most of the time. What...

  • Yes, even in my own country we are multiracial thus multicultural, in many respects from our physical appearance to how we behave, for example Melanesians are of dark complexion and stick to themselves, Polynesians and Micronesians are lighter complexion more open, often talking and laugh out loud. It was more noticeable in university these same races from...

I work as a private medical doctor offering general health and medical consultations and range of related health services. I hope to improve my communication skills as much as possible since I am very poor in certain aspects especially in speaking in public.

  • I am more of a plant/thinker but due to a recent change in employment I had to be action oriented and have much difficulty when dealing with people especially to influence them on certain action.

  • I am mostly creative but can also be a conqueror, this is because I strive for excellence in what I do however, if I face difficulty I create pathway to try out and stay in if successful.

  • In my work as a sole-proprietor in a small medical business and from experience networking opportunities is endless especially with the new online platform. • Good delegation is key to growth and positive development of any organization but it takes time to achieve it's success

  • Carla's approach is too autocratic in style but her intentions seem genuine. She needs to carefully assess the real issues existing, talk to all stakeholders, find amicable solutions for all involve before setting the highest standard.

  • Constraints will constantly be encountered but an excellent manager will swiftly, smoothly and skillfully sort it in the best way for the best interest of the team.
No there is no blueprint because like individuals with differences, no two business setting is similar in every way and changes does happen constantly.

  • My experience working under good managers is when I feel I want to achieve more as part of the team, challenging myself constantly, mostly good feedbacks received, energized to strive for the best.On the other hand,I felt drained working under a poor manager, no incentive,no creativity, just plain boring day to day activities, no conducive learning environment,...

  • A manager for me has to be at the top of his or her game or trade, constantly kept up to date with all the knowledge, wisdom and skill and especially communicating effectively with his/her team to achieve it's mission, vision and goals.

I engage in the general practice health care system in my country and I realize a wicked problem in this area in relation to the private and public aspect of health care in general. Within this are more specific wicked problems for example the quality of care in not the same in every avenue patients seek care.

  • I can only think of a recent innovation having so much impact on my personal and some aspect of my professional being the mobile phone telecommunications now with improved Internet in my setting. It can be both radical and disruptive because of it's widespread effects and can be good or bad depending on the context of usage....

  • Thank you Soon, certainly a great example of radical innovation so many people similar to my setting, a least developed country with very poor water quality

  • Business model innovation in my small medical practice is striking for all stakeholders to make a change for the well being of everyone and the growth and success of the business. Organizational innovation is similar to the above except it demands me as a manager to act on best actions to act on for our growth.

  • The Internet is certainly the best and amazing innovation for me.It is so important, helpful and beneficial for learning and advancement in all aspect of my life.I simply love it and how it will help me grow in every area of my life. Can't really find the right words to explain this great innovation.

  • Thank you for the valuable insight to this interesting topic. From observing the typical school and eduction system in my country inclusion is only a word for management actual practice is far from the ideal.
