  • From Colombia?

  • I'm a Latinamerican English teacher, and fing a job for a non-native speaker is really difficult and challenging; most of the companies recruit 90% only natives, even if they do not have a degree, certification or experience.

Everyday, I'm thinking about being an online English teacher, however, I don't know where or how start (taking into a account a...

  • Jack from TESLO is actually a good one. He gives good advice and talks about the platforms that in this course are mentioned.

  • I speak Spanish and when I teach English, it is common to hear some mistakes with vowels' pronunciation. So, the way to let them know the mistake is by using the reading skill and let them read constantly. Then, give them feedback and see deeply the weakness.

  • I found storybird so useful. I will help students to create and imagine good stories to share with the rest of the group.

  • I don't want to give up. I'm here!

  • I actually did as the first teacher explained. Through the chat I sent the link to the student and then she could watch it. After 2 minutes she told me she saw it and I asked her some simple questions about the video.

  • Rewordify is so useful. I did not know about it, and it Will help students and even me to understand all those difficult passages that are hard to understand.

  • Go to ISLcollective! It is a good one!

  • I started teaching online one week ago, now, I have two students taking my classes. So far, the classes have been challenging because I am using zoom as my platform and I'm just learning to use it, therefore, for them and for me is something really new, but we have been handling pretty well.

I want to thank you for all the information you share. It has been s useful and I have tried to applied with my children. Definitely, as soon as get into a job I will apply many useful tips from this course. It will inspire me at the moment of teaching.

  • After learning in this course I gave to the verbe PLAY much more importance than I di before. Playing is the key of being free and succesful.

  • Observation, assessment and planning are the base of jotting the beginning of the process in each child, where parents and teacher will see reflected the evidence of the progress in children. This is how we can keep an order of the progress.

  • Thank you

  • it is very important the difference he makes in how could be assessed all 4 skills (speaking, writing, reading and listening) But how children could be assessed is different and we as teachers need to be very wary about assessment.

  • From my experience as a mom and now with my children in kindergarten, a sad experience that my child had to pass trough, couldn't be solve the question "why" he did "this" if the teacher shouldn't have asked me. The situation was that my first baby took off his shoes because they told him to eat, and all day long he refused to do what the teacher said. So,...

  • what she explanined is they proper way to assess children. It is important to take into account the question she mentioned.

Many. It is funny because My mom always asks me to record her grandsons magic moments, but the most speacial ones are so hard to catch. From my first baby, I remember when he started dancing with a special song he heard from the radio. And another magic moment, was looking at them playing together, and sharing a creative situations between them and their...

  • observing my two children I could see how they are trying to share when one sees something interesting that the other one is doing. Althoguh, sometimes they fight because the act of sharing is not easy when they are very young. My first baby is 3 and he is dealing with his frustration and my second one is 2, so it is not easy because he is passing trough...

  • According to what she said about children who need more attention in order to incorporate teaching and learning succesfully in a child that process takes slower. how can we make sure for this children to achieve their success in English? I can observe him/her, assess wht he/she can do, and what about the planning for these children?

  • I remember from college, there was a class which was called observation. In this class I remember we have to go to another class and observate THE TEACHER!, describing the environment, the classroom, the way the teacher tought to students. BUT what I can remember we never had to observate students. Big mistake. Now with this intrduction of obseving I realized...

  • Exams are a huge nightmare. If the student passes the exam, the feeling is fine, and really, nothing else happens. But if the student fails the exam, all goals and dreams starts to ruin. One of the worst inventions make by humans.

  • by observing, describing, and saving all the progress make by them, the children. Creating a portfolio to see all their progress during the year

  • This question is out of the context, but I have a doubt. I was reading the first article from this part of the course. It said "teasing head on". When I used the translation it appeared something about sex, all the options were about porn. Can someone tell me the meaning of "teasing head!?" I''m really confused.

  • We are human beings and it is well known we are so different, we are so diverse. I really hate all prejudice create by many people, and that is a way to do it. We should be call just for our own name. That's all. I am Nataly.

  • I'm actually dreaming with my own intitute, giving them the best environment. The one they deserve. Here in Colombia you will always find schools which everything is imposed. I don't want that. I want a place where they can feel free and have the best experience and at the same time learning English. This course is giving so meny useful ideas to be applied.

  • Appreciteting their work and telling them how important it is and they are will give them the strength to be confident and happy.

  • Well, as a mom I always try to make a saved environment for my children. It is hard sometimes because you know how children are; thy want to touch and move everything so I try to avoid objects that could be dangeours for them. Moreover, as a teacher , one of the facts that I find so important due to a good process in children, is having a great comunication...

  • Not long ago, I read an article about the teacher's role. We as teachers have many tasks to do for one classroom. MANY. A friendly extra hand in our job is more than necessary, and having the responsabilities that a key person has, teaching would be marvelous.

  • No legislation in Colombia.

  • When Children and carers get along and start building a great realitionship, Everything will go just fine. As I said before, from my experience, There was a teacher who nobody liked, and most of them still remember her as the mean teacher. Something that shouldn't happen. Although, in Colombia many teachers and parents are in that thought that if the teacher...

Is how a child feels in order of what is around him or her. Giving them the confidence and having the chance to encourage them to feel free, will make them feel HAPPY, so that will give them the chance to learn positively. Poor those who has had to face a traditional education. Everything is imposed, and that's why many people find education as an obligation.

  • I went to kindergarten when I was 4. I have vague memories from this time. Although, I remember one of my teachers. She was kind with us, but the other course had a teacher who nobody liked. She was bad- tempered. Luckily, My teacher was very nice. That's one of the few things I remember.

  • I woul like to thank you because you gave us enriching information that could be applied. Plus, i didn't know bout the Center of the developing child. Excellent website. I have being taking my time to read all the information into this page. Thank you so much.

  • In order to the question, one key a use for a valuable class is using physical games. Dancing while we listen English songs, or even giving them a 2 minutes break, so the don't get tired or bored. Moreover, Using malleable materials are very usefull, they wnt to feel textures and using dough, is a good way to encourgae them to start learning. It is just a...

  • Great activity. I am going to do it with my children.

  • Mixing colors and see what color becomes next.

  • The adult is just a guider because children make the rest of the learning. Montessori is a good example of this. Let them to feel free and curious.

  • I would love teache English to these ages. We don't have that in My country, what a shame.

  • Nataly Forero made a comment

He/she is just rushing and is not thinking in the main idea of the process in children. We have to take a look at what they really need and even want. Moreover, most of the teachers in Colombia are unable to be free in their classes. What I meant to this is because mosto of the schools impose the way to teach by using an specific type of book, so processes...

  • I remember when I started going to theatre classes When I was in first grade at school. It was amazing because I can still remember my teacher, some of my classmates and ona activity that it was about turning side by side out heads and saying hello to the partner nex to me on both sides. We had to do it many times, and each time had to be with a silly face,...

  • From now on, my favourite phrse will be: It looks interesting, Can I join in? It is a key phrase.

  • I like to play with them most of the time. As much as I can. We are visiting my family, so we are trying to spend time with their only one aunt. They are definitely enyoing these days with their family, so what we try to do is dancing, playing race games, gping out to the park and malls.

  • Teachers cooperate with guiding children to do their activity. Just being a guide and not imposing. I wrote the short song she sang. It was nice to hear them to sing. Great exercise.

  • Definitely, that's the key. Showing them we are interested in what they are doing. They will notice what they do and think is really important. THANK YOU!

  • I have to confess I have said that to my child. He is three years old. I feel so bad now. How can I fix my mistake.

  • That's a virus that parents have in Colombia. They love comparing children, and even when we get older, they love comparing people different from your family by saying " she did and you did not". Parents unconsciously make mistakes. Awful.

  • How can we fight against these situation that are presented in our daily routines with our children? I dare to say this is a huge social problem that I don't know how could be solved. Parents usually over praise children , I try not to do so.

  • First of all, I would like to thank you for all the information you give us with this course. I find it so usefull in order to apply it with my children and I will with my future students. Such a great source of great information!

  • It was very useful. I took my time to read the articles and all the information you provide. I will definitely take some of your ideas to apply them with my children. So interesting.

  • Children are really into it. They are completely focused on what the guider is saying. Plus, the way she talks to them is very natural, a normal conversation. Not repeating too much.

  • Nataly Forero made a comment

As the last english teacher said, it is commmon when children don't want to talk at first, but then if we as parents and/or teacher keep talking to them in an appropriate way they will be more comfortable to speak.

  • Big deal when it says to encourage children to respect each other while playing. How can we deal with a fight between to babies when they don't want to share?

  • Nataly Forero made a comment

I think using different methods due to english teaching for children would be worth it. IOne of the methods I love to apply is the montessori method. It is because the way a classroom is handled makes easier the way a guide teaches. plus, how materials, furniture are placed is very interesting.

  • Me as a mom of two, learn how children are everytime focus on playing. This is one of the reasons I can see this course is right. What I try to do is being part of their playing, so they are more interested and find it more fun.

  • I haven't done the cademic module, but I would say it is very important to keep in mind good vocabulary for either academic and general exam. Hope you get the score you are looking for!

  • Use passive voice, modal verbs, comparative and superlatives.

  • Make sure you understand what IELTS examiners want to say due to the not given and false answer... IT has been really hard for me to understand. READ READ READ

  • Why you just make tricky exams, it is not fair. 6/13. For me fals and not given answer is the same.

  • I like the way "a guide" sounds. I disagree with the idea when a teacher impose a class. children, and even adults need to feel free in their classes. More even in an English class. Just being a guide and help them when it is needed.

  • I used to play the roll of a teacher. I always liked to be in touch with the classroom environment.

  • I did all the general training exam. 21/40.

  • Well, I have taken this exam twice in my life. I have gotten 6.0 total score in these two opportunities. The first time I felts it was easy the reading part, but I knew from the note (5.5) I had to work harder. The second time, I got a 6.0 in the reading part. Ultimately, it is not easy at all. A very tricky exam.

  • In the middle of the text, I had to move faster because I had to stop and think about the name of the long numbers. Then, I couldn't get exactly three ideas from the text. So, had to skip some words.

  • In Colombia we do not have that culture of reading. Parents do not get used to it, so children only know about reading at school. This is just a matter of studying and that´s all. People dont take it as part of their lyfestile , bt as an obligation. Besides, here in my contry libraries are not that strong as in the United States are. For that time when I...

  • I've been working on my writing skill. So far, I feel I've improved it. Hope during the real exam my mind will be focused and will answer in the correct way. I'm going to take the examn on 2 July.

  • People might think that learning about how to improve your childrens' develpoment within the linguistic field is not needed. But th truth is that there is many information to take into account for giving them a better future. And linguistics learned in an early point of the life will give many chances to have a succesful process in learning new things. I could...

  • Thank you for the advices. It is important not to pressure or COMPARE with other children. It is true when you say that all kids have different processes.

  • In my case, I have two boys. One is 2 years old and my other son is turning 3 next week. As an English teacher I like to spend some time with them talking in English. And what I can see is that they are really interested in learning another language. When I read in english they like to pay attention to me and stay quiet. Then, the oldest sometimes I can hear...

  • It is important to take into account the three aspects she says: Children learn when they are engaged, motivated and challenged. DEFINITELY.

  • I agree with number 1 and 4. The rest of the statments I disagree. Speacially with the one that says children can't learn by playing.

  • Me as a mom, and as someone who is living the experiences with children 2 and 3 years old, can see all these statments present in my babies´ lives. Maybe, Some of the are in the process or they are in those transitions between one and another statement. Something I have clear is that none of them learn in the same way. Both are completely different and I see...

  • I found here in Colombia, education is so wrong. It turns to a competitive issue where students need to learn fast, and doesn't matter their learnng, but is important to take into account a note. You will never see a group with different ages or at least I haven't seen it.

  • Ages from 2 to 4.

  • It is a metter of teaching and playing. You become a little kid with them. Just try to get involved in what they would like to learn, and it won't be tough for them. Avoid boring classes.

  • Playing is the key for childrens´ learning. I think young student are able to catch more if learning turns to a game. They will be more interested and will be focus on the activities planned for the teacher.

  • Hi! I am a teacher and mom as well. I've been working with children since I started my career. So, handling for me a class for young guys is not a hard work. Although, I need to practice more about teaching for children, and catching good new ideas for my classes. Besides, I would like to imporve my English language.

  • Nataly Forero made a comment

Hello! My name is Nataly and I'm an English teacher for children in my country, Colombia. Besides, I have 2 babies who I am keeping teaching English as a second language. So, this will be a good opportunity to learn more about the topic and use it for my classes and my sons. Thank you.

  • I would say, this students has a good range of vocabulary. I found good sentences to take intoaccount for my future writings.

  • Back to the drawing board. Good explanation.

  • Thank you. It is clear

  • Well, I would say listening could be one of the hardest part for me in the exam. Maybe is because I can't focus that easy, so probably I would feel lost, and I don't If I listen or if I have to write.

  • I would recommend to speak English and think in English when you are alone. That is worth it for me. Although, if you have someone next to you that can speak, persuade him/her to speak in English. Sometimes I do it with my husband.

  • I could develope all the topics.Although, it took me time to think about the last topic: Childhood.

  • Both made a good job, but Nancy was quite nervous and she gave short answers most of the time. Anita was calm and she could express more her ideas.

  • I think I can express myself and I can be understood. Although, Sometimes when I forget a word and I try to say what I think, but I feel like I express the idea in a difficult way, so people might get confused. :/ Or usually I use Spanglish, and that's a bad idea.

  • 7/10

  • Thank you Maulik!

  • Try not to study few days before the exam. Be relaxed and do not thing about it one day before the exam. Be focus on something different that day.

The IELTS is an exam I need for my graduation. 6.5 is what I need.

Well, I had an interview exam last Saturday. I am an English teacher in my country, so I started looking for a job. I felt anxious at the beginning, but at the moment to introduce myself in the speaking part, I felt relaxed. Hope this institute call me tomorrow! Moreover, I have already taken the IELTS exam before. I took it one years ago. Sadly, I got 6.0 ,...

  • Third time lucky. Hello! I've been trying to end up this course, but it's been hard for me to finish it. Hopefully, I will be serious this time because I already paid for the exam. I will take it on November 12th! So, see you in class!

  • I think it is necessary to start from now, listening the audio three times, then only twice till you only need to listen once. Hope it works.
