woaaaw what an insightful article with a perfectly fitting example of Anna

  • wow i'm super excited to be on this course
a professional educator i believe this course will reveal much more than meets the eye ;-)

  • i agree with what you say

  • the creation of detention centres in India is a clear threat to the right to freedom of any human in the country therefore upholding the human rights of all humans in all countries is of paramount importance

negative consequences of these violations causes conflict and subsequently more human rights violations..

  • because of their interconnected nature the denial of even a single human right causes a domino effect and all other human rights are seen as denied

  • yes it is very important that we ALL recognise that every human being has dignity

today's digital media reveals the violations happening all over the world and the need for recognition of human rights gets even more prominence

  • respect for all human beings is the common theme seen among the statements given in the video

when all humans are treated with respect and all are guaranteed JUSTICE, social, economic and political; LIBERTY of thought expression, belief, faith and worship; EQUALITY of status and of opportunity and the promotion of FRATERNITY among all irrespective of all...

  • three new things i have learnt this week are
1 there is professional development (pd) outside the classroom too
2 communities of practice (cop) is one example of pd outside the classroom
3 how to find a good cop

two things i would like to try are
    1 collaborative professional development
2 self assessment and making a development plan

    one thing i...

  • a successful person is one who is a lifelong learner

nothing changes but change and so we all should remain life long learners

  • i have been through all these guidelines very carefully and it would be unfair to classify them as more important and less important.. they all are very important in my opinion

    Following more could be added..
1 being polite and welcoming new members
2 socialization could take place but the focus should remain on the subject and the session
    3 respect for...

  • since this is a new area for me I'll try them all and then decide

i think the teachers that interact in these communities are so lucky

  • i haven't participated in similar communities of practice but I'd love to try all of the professional development activities the educators on this course mentioned

  • following are some features to create a good community of practice
    1. have an objective or purpose
    2. establish a plan
    3. value the experience and knowledge each member brings
    4. introduction of all participants is important
    5. have a moderator for a proper direction of work
    6. use social platforms to keep in touch
    7. use management tools where...

  • domain is the important when deciding to join communities of practice and i'm not a member cause this is a new thing which I would like to start straight away

  • i talk about my teaching practice with my teacher colleagues and also some teacher educators and this is done at my workplace

  • hey this seems nice that no one is observing during the lesson the leacher feels more at ease but then has to do an honest self observation for discussion later after the lesson

  • yes learning from colleagues is a great way of small steps towards professional development.. i have learnt managing mixed ability classrooms from peer observation

  • a prepared observer and a prepared teacher

a great observation takes place before you even step inside the classroom

focus should be on learning, not teaching

    examine the lesson plan

co-relate the observation to the professional learning at your school

    prompt feedback

  • 1. Austin receives polite, positive and honest feedback and he does respond to it by making another improved draft

2.criticism is just showing what's wrong whereas critiquing is evaluating in a detailed and analytic way

    3. i partially agree cause of the varied natures of our perceptions of a model lesson I also believe teaching is as much a creative...

  • this is something similar to what i do too

  • for that you need a terrific memory.. better more if you quickly jotted down a couple of points that provide reference in subsequent lesson planning

  • we have an intricate formative evaluation procedure for our school children eg project, test, practical.. all recorded in written form of observation

  • with the help of a smiling face and a helpful, encouraging attitude the online teacher of English can develop good rapport with their learners and maintain motivation throughout a lesson

  • in the course books that i use at school for each lesson there are many enjoyable home assignment activities which i would love to adapt into my online classes

  • a generous sprinkling of writing and drawing games activities and tasks not only at the beginning and end but also during the online lesson to keep the students alert at all times and taking their views and responses thus making the lesson ever more student centred

  • zoom has the largest number of features to exploit while online teaching so i'm going with zoom

  • i'm optimistic that i'll be able to successfully sail out of the challenges that i may face during my one to one as well as group online teaching sessions

  • i'll be mastering a couple of the platforms but it's mostly gonna be zoom

  • my main reason for teaching English online is for flexibility and also being up to date with the latest trends

  • my students could be 10 to 12 year old's as well as primary school teachers who would like to teach English online and I'm ready to teach both younger learners and adults all over the world and i would like to try working for a company and also work by myself to find out which one works best for me

  • there just couldn't be a better time to do this course as current time demands online teaching! hello everyone I'm Nitin a primary school teacher and eacher trainer from India

  • to be honest i have this traditional and old fashioned uncomfortable feel about peer observation as we all were so seriously and critically observed during our practise lessons at teacher training.. but after seeing what Kim had to say about this new style ie. peer observation, I'm sure im going to start it as soon as possible [even if it means on the online...

  • if it was used as a speaking activity the teacher could be more learner centered and allow the students to one by one ask questions about the picture thus getting a bit by bit description of the picture which may also end up in a more accurate representation

  • if the language that you don't speak is available on Google translate I think you have a pretty good chance of positive communication with the parents and the teacher could also use higher grade students as translators where the issues aren't confidential

  • some short PE exercises could be integrated into every online lesson when we need those breaks from this continuous "sitting in the same pose" thing... furthermore online PE lessons can be the most enjoyable experience of all.. a really creative PE teacher will make the most of it

  • Nitin Prabhune made a comment

the facebook live was fantastic i got to know so many ideas that i could use while teaching online and also ways to handle any unexpected hindrances that may arise

  • try the sandwich method of feedback where the teacher compliments, praises and encourages two or three positive points.. and then subtly tries to guide one small mistake with the appropriate correct answer.. and again follow up with compliments, praises and encouragement

  • i am mostly using instruction and a little bit of construction approaches in all the patterns but now i am eager to move on to the exciting co construction approach in all the mentioned patterns

  • the learning teaching often used by me is the instruction way and sometimes the construction way.. but co construction sounds interesting and would like to put it into practice immediately

  • yes i agree when they are given explicit unambiguous instructions with a little demo maybe.. they will surely enjoy the individual activity experience too and from then on there's gonna be no turning back..

  • i think with some practice we could master this "developing a hunch thing.."

  • well all the phases are interlinked like a chain and i find the first phase to be the most interesting as it is this careful observation through scanning that we are looking out for identifying the situation or problem to be addressed.. and the rest of the equally interesting phases follow suit

  • collaborative working works well in my classroom but when individual activity is given it doesn't work out well and i'd like to improve in that direction

  • yes all the three ways may prove more useful when used together

  • for upper classes we have what is called a post box activity where a box is placed in the corner of a classroom and students can send messages about the teaching or maybe something they didn't understand to the teacher anonymously.. great way of feed back

  • i do reflect in all the three ways ie during class and after class and then deciding what could be done both immediately [when in class] and afterwards too. my method uptill now only involved discussion with peers and i'm very excited about keeping a journal and getting student feedback too.

  • most of the time I tend to focus on whether I have met the needs of the learners and then I would be looking how resources can be included with the integration of technology

  • This is a super tool that uses reflection for bettering the learning experiences.. i'm sure i'll be using it soon

  • .

  • "I consider that reflective practice helps us analyze aspects of the needs that we present in our daily work to overcome obstacles on a day-to-day basis." [ thank you Google translate ]

  • To be honest i don't reflect on my teaching practice as often as required.. it's only the successful lesson that remains as a good memory but now I'm beginning in a direction that's more towards reflection on all its forms.

  • Just as a reflecting mirror is used to keep physical appearances perfect and presentable similarly reflective practice has and wide scoped influence on enhancing effectiveness and making a positive change towards professional development.

  • the three things i've learnt this week are
    1. the importance of keeping a reflective journal in relation to all the four stages of development.
    2. the importance of increasing proficiency in as many of the 12 professional practices as possible.
    3.

the two things i would like to try are..
    1. keeping a reflective journal
    2. integrating ICT

yes i agree with both Mahesh and Ayesha

  • being more interested in pursuing online courses, webinars and conferences i think i need to keep up with the other CPD activities too for a whole and all round development of myself.

  • once again i find myself in all the three responses.. Azania's introspective approach.. Mahesh's thoughts about how student time is sacrificed while doing CPD courses.. and Sangeeta's concern for optimum utilization of time.. these are all very much my experiences too.

one challenge i would like to share is that almost on a daily basis i'm asked to go out...

  • when i receive children's love for being concerned and caring for their well being is the part I love the most. my challenges are simple endless and never the same.. the most prominent being time management and student attendance.

  • Yes I have had a lot of time for my CPD and I have added some more experiences like attending the ELTOC online conference and also completed a course here on FutureLearn. I will soon be teaching online and I am mastering the skills of online moderation that may help me make effective online experiences for my students. I have also doing a couple of things...

  • I am happy that i found agreeing with the views of all the three educators as I am both a school teacher and a teacher educator as well. I would also like to add that CPD is not only improving my standards and quality of my work but making me a better person too.

  • Hi I'm a primary school teacher who's interested in producing great online content for distance learning in lockdown scenario

  • Nitin Prabhune made a comment

My lesson plan helps guide me through the stages, activities and time taken. I try to be flexible when actual lesson is going on

  • Failing to plan is planning to fail! Initially I spent more time on planning my lessons but with the experience building up I do it faster and even better with a host of varied learning experiences so that inclusiveness and differentiation are addressed.

  • Rapport is most important as it lays the foundation for attracting students' undivided attention for proper working of the next two teacher attributes ie attitude/enthusiasm and presence.

  • Content, Process and Product were all used which made learning efficient and enjoyable

  • The student centred nature of the approach was instrumental in keeping the students motivated thus they were all eyes and ears right till the end.

  • Scaffolding acquires so much significance here's an example for implementing successful activities: first give them explicit and unambiguous instructions to do the activity.. then follow it with a demo of the activity followed by student demo after which.. use ICQ's Instruction Checking Questions to consolidate. and finally implement and monitor the activity

  • students are born imitators.. what more to be said!

  • And that's why the initial GTYS or Getting To Know Your Students activities are so important for getting a detailed first hand information and planning accordingly.

  • Hello everyone I'm Nitin from India. I'm a primary school teacher. All the students at my school come from slum areas with problems like unhealthy and unfavourable atmosphere for growing children. I hope to learn to identify these special children and be of assistance to them.

This course will also enable me to get in touch with other educators, teachers...

  • All the tools mentioned are useful in their own unique way. The interactive whiteboard can be used by both the teacher as well as the participating students for teaching, learning and assessment activities. Another of my favourites would be the breakout rooms where teacher monitored group work and pair work make teaching learning enjoyable and exciting because...

  • The flexibility of online courses is incomparable with face to face mode and what's more technology comes up to do just about anything to have a student teacher experience that's truly face to face yet online!

  • Teaching English is one of my favourite things and what's more exciting than teaching it online! I'm sure I will do my utmost to get the most out of this course.

  • Hello there from incredible India! I'm a primary school teacher and also pre-school teacher trainer and I have joined this online course for it's absolute flexibility at all levels and another objective is the hope to start some of my own online courses.

  • Celebrating their success builds a strong confidence and awareness that they have that capacity and capability of achieving new things as the move through this early childhood experience

  • I totally agree that Observation, Assessment and Planning in the Early Years are very important especially when we are avoiding the traditional evaluation tools like tests & exams and using Play Observation for the same.

  • Formative Evaluation and Summative Evaluation with help of observation and other tools is how I would go about tracking a child's progress.

  • All children are unique in different ways so it doesn't make sense comparing them.. on the contrary A teacher should treat children as individuals unique in their own way

  • A child will learn in A safe and positive learning atmosphere

  • I would like to suggest to teachers to try your best to make the classroom environment as child centered, safe and comfortable as possible.

  • Research in new language acquisition has shown that children at a younger age learn new languages at a much faster pace as compared to adults as the 'control' of L1 on adults is so high that they don't find learning new languages easy!

  • In India we have a nationwide 3 language formula where mother tongue is usually the first language then a second language Hindi and the third English so.. Indian students are more exposed to this multilingual concept and with this experience they grow up to learn new languages more easily.

  • my basic plan is to first make a note of the ideas and activities that are new to me and then while I reflect.. chalk out a framework to put them to practical use as soon as possible

  • I have used a reflective journal for quite sometime now and it has really helped me to improve myself in both my roles as a teacher and as a teacher trainer

  • Hey there! I'm a primary school teacher and I'm super excited to be here!
